Still not sure if I should be discussing the dragonball fighterz game here. But new footage of Merged Zamasu DLC has me super stoked.

It's been discussed in here a lot, I'm pretty sure it's welcome. I don't like the character, but he seems like a solid addition. I hate most of the DLC characters from season 1, sadly :(

I have zero interest in Broly or Bardok so I'm super happy to have Zamasu. He was a weird villain to me but I like that he's one of the Kais. Way back when Shin was introduced I had hoped he'd be cool. But that sorta fell through.

I also was disappointed by Supreme Kai, way back when. Fused Zamasu seems cool, but to me it's weird to have characters that are made up of other characters in the game. Also don't like having multiple versions of characters, much, but fusions are somehow worse to me. Doesn't appeal to my OCD.

Oh yeah I'm definitely not thrilled with having more Gokus and Vegetas added especially since there's such a large cast in the first place.

As a fan of the more-old school stuff, I'd honestly rather have base forms than the blue forms. Is that weird? Honestly the only duplicate character I flat out WANT is Kid Goku. Because it's Kid Goku, come on!
-
It's kind of like that one GT game that was the ONLY dragonball game available for the longest time…. its select menu was loaded with super forms and fusions, and that was crazy confusing to an audience that wasn't past the Frieza saga yet.
SIX versions of Goku. THREE forms of Trunks. Only one Vegeta? And Vegito. And Ultimate Gohan with no super.
And then five other characters. But Goku and Trunks variants are more than half the roster!
New games are less likely to go to town with GT kid Goku, but we've got red, blue, and instinct forms now, so…
-
yeah… I really think they should have gotten all the gokus and vegetas out of the way in the base game, even if it would have meant saving more interesting characters like Beerus and Hit for the DLC
like it's one thing to have a Dragon Ball game loaded with a bunch of variants, it's another thing entirely to charge for them after the release, even with how much work goes into the art and animation for this game, it just feels wrong to have that kind of thing be DLC
-
I've said this before, so pardon me, but I still think that even if there's something inherently disappointing about paying for base (or Saiyan Saga - I've seen both variants reported) Goku and Vegeta, I at least see potential for interesting move sets. I'm not overly optimistic, mind you, but I see potential.

I remember that! More than anything, I remember being in fourth grade and one of my classmates was always bringing in printed-out DBZ pictures, and just being so mystified by the designs - most of which were canon characters like Buu, Mecha-Frieza, various forms of Super Saiyan, but also with (I think) some fan characters thrown in. It was overwhelming, exciting, and confusing.

I just got done playing a few ring matches. It's surprising to me but 21 is my best character by far. Lol. Here I was hoping to make Piccolo my main but now I'm rolling with 21, Cell and Frieza.

I haven't played in a couple of weeks. I've never been a big Trunks fan, but I'm really pretty decent as him in this game. His ability to hop in and out of the enemies face is really attractive to me. And I've gotten his LVL 3 down pretty well. I'm also fairly good as Cell, both versions of Buu, 16, 18, Frieza, Piccolo, and Krillin (roughly in that order).
I HATE that I'm not just baller with Frieza, because Super just completely cemented him (already a character I was fond of, and my favorite villain) as my favorite character.

I can’t wait for all the new and exciting ways Goku and Vegeta will have the exact same dynamic with one another.

It's good to be bad

Great performance by Sean and great that they removed the atatatatatas.
This was a much better moment than most of Goku moments in the ToP
-
Not really. We had just learned two episodes earlier that Goku never even kissed Chi-Chi and the choreography and animation are much worse than in the ToP.
-
I know the animation wasnt pretty but the lines were well delivered, Goku bitchslapping Future Zamasu still makes me laugh.
-
Zamasu arc was the fucking worst. It's like they made every wrong decision they could have done with that story line.
-
In terms of writing, Im going with the ToP, the arc was lucky the animation was top notch for the important scenes like MUI Goku vs Jiren, give ToP animation to the Zamasu Arc and its Namek Saga level imo.

Evil Future Goten was my vote
-
Evil Goten couldve ended up at the level of Tobi being Obito imo.
-
Evil Goten operates on the assumption that the writers even care about Goten enough to factor him into big arcs
-
What the fuck is a Goten? You mean Gotenks, right?

Could've called him Tengo Black
-
Evil Bardock would have been more entertaining

The only person who cares less about Goten than Toriyama did is Goku.

Goku's honestly a better father to Goten than he was to Gohan
minus the "Being Dead" years

and the incident with the tractorGokuu raised Gohan for the first four years of his life, entered into a life-or-death battle to say Gohan from Raditz, raised Gohan for the three years of training to battle the Artificial Humans and the year in the Room of Spirit & Time and had a non-fighting past-time of taking Gohan fishing. Piccolo kidnapped Gohan at the age of four, ruthlessly beat him and told him to fight a bunch of genocidal monsters.
The "Gokuu is a bad dad" meme is just that, a meme.
-
Goku's a perfectly fine dad until he gave Cell a senzu bean
then he became a pretty bad dad
-
Can we just compromise and say Gohan had a bad childhood?

/kindasarcasm how can you say your childhood is bad when Piccolo raises you?

Turns out I really do care about DB a bunch now. Rewatching in the dub, I remember I actually really like the Goku Black arc outside it's ending (and it's more dissapointing than angering to me). Zamasu is the only DB villain that actually has a understandable motive (not sympathetic, just that you kinda get it) or a sort of mantra at all.
Cell just wanted strength. Buu was just a chaotic genie thing, Freeza and King Piccolo tyrants. I don't actually mind Goku Black being Zamasu, either. They are still pretty different, which is why Goku Black is interesting. He's still part Saiyan and a different entity from Zamasu. I completely forgot that it was actually explained that Black killed all the gods by killing the Kais and I forgot how much of a kind of desparate situation Super Saiyan Rage came from. As far as character writing, it's pretty darn consistent and understandable.
-
It has everything that your average DB story doesn't have: plot, progression, human drama. All around a solid story… in any other medium. However in the DB universe it sticks out like a sore thumb. Zamasu may have had more purpose in his action, but his constant restating of it made him sound whinier than almost any other villain, and his way of achieving power was cowardly in comparison to most of the villains that have been faced.
In any other world it would be compelling, in this case it turned people off.
-
No, Future Trunks arc was garbage and for one simple reason:
Young Trunks has purple hair, but Future Trunks has blue hair. Like, what the hell Toei? And I thought Toriyama was bad at continuity.
-
That is actually explained. Future Trunks and kid Trunks are technically two different Trunks' so the colour change is to further distinguish them.
The problem is that it's a retcon from Z, but that's not anything new. Remember Vegeta's initial colouring in the anime? That is also a pretty jarring change, even if I definitely prefer the second (manga) colour scheme.
In hindsight I actually really dig that Zamasu used his brain to defeat the gods. He is a corrupt, justice-demanding god and he is going to get what he wants no matter what. It fits. It also shows punching isn't the only thing that matters. Knowledge and smart acting is what made him a threat, essentially.
I feel like it very much feels like DB. The three-act structure, Zamasu and Black being the only big villains, some background cat'n'mousing akin to Freeza and Cell arcs.
There are a bunch of things that still really bug me, like Goku's character being exgaggerated for plot convinience (forgetting stuff and being a pest with fighting Zamasu when they first meet were obviously there to get the plot where it needed to go) and the ending, of course. But I thought it was good and I kind of appreciate some of the things the arc did a bunch.
-
Man, U7 is really fucked if someone else smart decides to take out beerus
All they have to do is kill Shin and that'd be like punching a toddler by db standards
-
I mean, there's the question how Goku Black got through the Pride Troopers with U11. He got the Kai probably 'cause they aren't constantly being guarded. The universes themselves don't have much of a connection, either. So the Kais do seem like really easy targets.
The simple answer (storytelling answer) is that the Pride Troopers didn't exist at the time of the FT arc as a concept in the story. But otherwise?

I'm steadily on my way to not being an absolute trash player. But oh man why are people so picky in ranked matches? I'm a lowly green square and only have done 13 matches and won 2 but people when matched keep opting out when we get paired.
Some guy in a lobby got paired with me 3 times and rejected me twice before he accepted. It's like 1st of all dude there's only 4 of us clearly doing ranked matches, the lobby was practically empty. 2nd of all you have a higher rank and 5 times my battle points. What are you being picky for?
I think we were both surprised when I won that match. I was just so annoyed he wasted time like that.
Anywho…Just needed to vent. Picky players in this game are becoming a problem apparently.
-
So, we'll apparently be getting a Dragon Ball Heroes anime.
Heroes is like the wierdest and craziest thing in my perception?
Also more info (character designs) on the movie.

It's a promo anime, won't last all that long.

Seems obvious to be an OVA series/short anime considering how much of a zany mess it is (can't see it being a long runner) and it's also logical to be one because it is just a video game.
-
Less beyblade and more yamcha's excelent baseball adventure please.
-
New designs look nice, some subtle improvements in there.
-
I love how much more natural the folds in Gokuu's pants look in Shintani's character design.
You can also see it in Beers' pants.
Base Gokuu's hair also feels very naturally hanging.
-
I'm just happy the wierd shininess is gone. Looks very Namek saga.
-
He's skinier now. I don't have the adult portion of the manga, but it is now closer to the modern style of toriyama.

I think Shintani basically combined the Saiyan arc, the Artificial Humans arc and Toriyama's modern styles together by mostly just applying the proportions of the Artificial Human arc with the features of Toriyama's modern style and Saiyan arc-esque line work.
