Surprised this doesn't exist yet, or doesn't come up on the search if it does. Anyways, I love chess, but don't play it nearly as often as I'd like to since I prefer playing against people I know rather than randomly assigned strangers. Would anyone else be interested in playing online chess against other Arlong Park members?

I'd probably give it a shot if you set something up, but I haven't played in a long time. Even back then it always felt like the people I played were either way better or way worse than me.
Also haven't played Go in a while. Simpler times~
-
Whoa, Wooden, you play Go? That's something I'd be interested in.
Sorry, I know this is for chess, but um…
/is thrown as a distraction
-
Uhh I can play chess sometimes if you guys know an easy/reliable way to play online. I'm decent I guess.
-
Iam total garbage at the game, but somehow i enjoy watching some games and getting to know the tactics behind certain moves.
-
Been a while since I played. I'm decent at it, I guess.
Go would be awesome to learn though…

Have you watched Hikaru no Go? It's an excellent anime based on an excellent manga, and the anime episodes always end with a segment in which a Go pro lady teaches some (probably acting) dumb kids how to play, so you pick up a lot of basics just from watching the (excellent) show.

That sounds great! I've been needing something to tide me over until the spring season.
-
We could form a league or ladder of sorts if we can find a site to play with. For both really. I used to play on a Go site around 6 or so years ago.
-
Yay, interest!
is admittedly relieved that no one seems to be that experienced
I'll look for the best site to use for a tournament or something like that. I've never played Go and haven't heard of it aside from passing sights of the Hikaru no Go series, so it might be fun to give that a try too.

From what I remember the default site for playing Go online is KGS:
https://www.gokgs.com/I assume once you have an account you can find others?
Not sure what the equivalent would be for Chess.
-
If I recall correctly, and I don't cause I tell you right now the site looks much different then what I remember, but this is where I played long ago.

I've read the manga and really, really liked it - until…
! it suddenly just ended without the feeling of a real closure.
-
Ending sucked for sure. But it definitely did the job of making you interested in the game earlier on.
-
Yea, agreed. It still stands as one of the manganime based on a game where you seriously get super hyped about the stakes and character development. And the rivalries are gold too.
-
Took a look around and chessmaniac.com seems like it might suit our needs best. Everything wants you to make an account so I haven't been able to examine things too closely.
-
I'd be interested (got my ass kicked by my dad all the time), but I'm not awake during the day, so …

That's because the ratings taaaaaaanked after a certain character left the series.

I've made an account on chessmaniac and it looks good so far, who'd be interested in participating in a tournament there? I'd hope to host it this weekend.

As long as someone is awake at the same time as you are, I'm sure you could play. We're all from different areas of the globe after all.
-
Well, if someone's awake from 6pm to 9am US eastern time. Making dinner half the time when I wake up though.
-
I didn't realize Hikaru no Go would be proto-Yugioh! Is that one kid going to be the Kaiba of the series?
-
I'm not very good but I do like to play. I have an account on chess.com if anyone would like to play sometime?
