The Dems shouldn't need to go far left to win elections, even if many of us wish they would. At this point their main focus should be providing a clear party platform that they can communicate concisely. Most importantly, that platform needs to be their unique vision for the country that they define themselves, instead of defining themselves through their opposition. Lots of leading Democrats get bogged down in semantics and policy, which means their message gets muddled and can easily be overshadowed by a Republican repeating the same stupid lies. They also can't define themselves BY their opposition, because we've already seen that a large portion of Americans aren't interested in the "At least we're not Trump/Cruz/Bannon" line.
Abortion doesn't HAVE to be a requirement to support a candidate, but potential candidates should very much be pressured to endorse pro-choice policies. That's how a party platform works.

It actually doesn't even matter when exactly Trump will be impeached. There won't be anything until November 2018 and even then, I don't know how long the impeachment and trial at the Senate will take.
What matters at this point is to not get a crazy Republican at the WH for a decade or two. But in the end we all know people will give Trump the Iraq War treatment "omg no, never endorsed it, I was against it since day one". -
