That should be our hope at this point. The last resort of basically stalling until September. Trump's also made it clear that he wants to get past this embarrassing mess and move onto the next thing before it costs him more approval points, though who knows if team P90X/Turtleman actually give a shit about his tantrums. They might just pursue this dumbass agenda until they're primaried out or have quasi-breakdowns like Boehner.

They'll pass a garbage bill if only to say that they've done something. They might set it up delay things so that it won't kick in until years later but that won't prevent a lot of market chaos and unnecessary death.

But enough about us Afro, tell us your feelings on black people again. Those were always rich.

Right I apologize to Benjamin, because no matter how overly serious and oversensitive he was being, he never did something as completely fucking dumb as comparing making fun of the Boy Scouts to prejudice against Religious and Ethnic groups lol.

Voting to procede means they're voting to discuss the law, not pass it.
Your confused because your brain probably rejected the idea of something so stuffy and bureaucratic and semi-meaningless being put to vote.Zeph, cool it. You're getting out of line again.

I watched McCain and the Trump Conference one after the other on CNN. I like the contrast between McCain's possible last big speech and than Trump.
McCain: Hey let's maybe trust each other and worth together and stuff.
Trump: WE PASSED THIS BILL WITHOUT ONE DEMOCRATIC VOTE WHAT A SHAME.
Also, Trump seems to be a sadist in terms of dealing with Sessions. I'm assuming he's taking out all his frustration over this thing on him. Otherwise, his anger over Sessions taking a job while somehow knowing he'd recuse himself in the future doesn't really make sense. Then again, I'm assuming Trump is rational and that might be my mistake.

On one hand, Trump is a huge shitbag for throwing him under the bus to save his own ass. On the other hand, Sessions is also a huge shitbag, too. So, I guess it evens out.

To be more accurate, he's voting to debate whether murder is legal

With all of this discussion about McCain it's also worth noting he said he would not vote on the bill as it stands today.
Meaning, he might have voted to further discuss the bill but he would not actually vote to enact the bill with the way it's currently crafted.
So there's your silver lining.

The issue though, as I understand it, is that McCain has a history of taking big only to vote the party line in the end. So I don't think anyone on the Democratic side of the aisle is counting on him.
Despite that, I wanted to take a moment to appreciate the incompetence being displayed throughout this process.
- The Republicans have spent the last seven-odd years campaigning to remove the ACA. When they're finally in a position to do it, they produce a last minute hack job of a repeal and replace bill that would literally take insurance away from more people than a straight repeal would have.
- The House manages a second attempt, but their party hardy is cut short because the Senate has a much narrower margin of error and can't possibly pass it.
- Like the House, the first attempt is so poorly done McConnell pulls it from being voted on.
- They redo the bill hoping to appeal to those critical votes they need without losing the ones they have, only to create a bill that may not even qualify for reconciliation, the only thing that makes the Senate passing something without Democrats possible in the first place
- All of this of happening when, on paper, the Republicans supposedly hold all the cards.
Did I miss anything?

In somewhat brighter news
House overwhelmingly passes Russia sanctions bill
https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2017/07/25/politics/iran-sanctions-bill/index.html
The House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bill giving Congress the power to block any effort by the White House to weaken sanctions on Russia, offering a direct challenge to President Donald Trump's authority.
The vote was 419-3. The legislation moves to the Senate, but it's unclear when the Senate will vote on the measure, which includes new sanctions against Russia, Iran and North Korea. Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Bob Corker indicated Monday he may want to make some tweaks to the bill, which was negotiated between the House and Senate after the initial version he drafted sailed through on a 98-2 vote.

John McCain just voted for the ruthless health care act that six hours ago he said was bad in his applause baiting speech.
-
Well, goodbye health insurance. It was nice having you while it lasted.
-
Side note. Mexico has retaliated against the whole wall thing by establishing an agricultural agreement with Argentina. Starting next year Mexico will buy 100% of their corn, rice, wheat and soy from Argentina duty free. In exchange, Mexico will ship cars to Argentina duty free.
This will take away at least 13 billion annually from american farmers.
Way to go GOP, making Mexico great again.

The law didn't pass. They just put up the BCRA again and 7 Republicans voted against it.

Re: BCRA
Senate GOP's Obamacare repeal and replace plan fails on procedural vote
A vote to advance Senate Republican leadership's plan to repeal and replace Obamacare failed late Tuesday – the latest setback in their party's effort to dismantle the 2010 health care law. After 9:30 p.m. ET, the Senate rejected a motion 43-57 to waive the Budget Act and advance the proposal, known as the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA). This contained a proposal from Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas that would allow insurers to sell less expensive bare-bones plans alongside plans that comply with stricter Obamacare standards. And a proposal was added from Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio that would "assist low-income people moving off of Medicaid and onto private insurance plans," according to an aide to McConnell. Because the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) didn't score the Cruz and Portman proposals, the entire proposal was subject to a 60-vote point of order instead of 51 votes.

While I'm skeptical of McCain, his speech earlier today was a great moment. The whole time I saw a dying man stand, his eye stitched, and give a rousing speech for possibly the last time. It's tough not to feel something in that moment.
But then reality comes crashing back down, and apparently nothing's changed. This really take the wind out of that moment when the Senate makes it clear it won't change it's behavior. Not sure what I expected that in one afternoon, but I guess I got caught up. Still though, McCain's statement had some good ideas and good notions in it, and it's better to get those ideas into the public consciousness than to just say nothing. So…thanks I guess, John.

Oh hey, I've been waiting for the next recession! Looks like the farmers are going to feel it first! Good for them???

Despite those words McCain voted yes on the BCRA. So any thanks were probably premature

It is a circus of horror and schadenfreude.

I love that the media is caught flat-footed because they had the pretty narrative of the big emotional thingie happening, that just results pretty much immediately in a fart.
The non-partisan obsession and insistence on narrative and neat sitcom framing to stuff is the real CNN disease.
-
I like how their "best" option at this point is something that manages to piss off the entire insurance industry while also shivving a bunch of people who rely on employer-based healthcare.
No individual mandate means a fair amount of people will drop out altogether, which will make insurance premiums skyrockets since insurers will make up for the decreased revenue projections by jacking them up on everybody else. No employer mandate means a lot of places that currently offer healthcare to their employees because of laws requiring that they do so won't. Less tax revenue means that things won't function properly either so even the parts that they are keeping will decline in quality.
-
I will not be surprised if within the next day or two I read a headline stating that McCain's back in the hospital due to complications with his eye because flying and exposing yourselve to changes in air pressure is a really fucking stupid idea when you just had surgery on your cranium!

@Mr.:
While this won't be much comfort, I'd like to think that with everything going on Trump's just sick of pretending to be tolerant, like when he skipped the Ramadan celebration. He's losing it, and doesn't care to reveal what a monster he is. It's a disgrace these people have to suffer for it though.
The fact that this was an Obama policy didn't help I'm sure.

@Mr.:
Trump's approach towards LGBT rights is to publicly smile and support them in speeches and rallies but turn around and appoint anti-gay officials to his cabinet and do stupid things like roll back Obama-era protections.

Good "job creator" Trump here to bring down unemployment by ending the careers of 7,000 people because they're "undesirables". Just too much of a "distraction" and a financial burden even though so much money already goes to the military.
I don't even want to joke. I have a friend who is FTM, and he already has had so much trouble finding and keeping a job because he's trans. They seriously do not need it made any harder for them.

But here's the problem: Enough people voted for Trump, and this is exactly why they voted for him. He's not shooting himself in the foot, because enough of Americans are discriminatory bigots who want this stuff.
-
Repeating the succesful 2016 strategy where the GOP, by way of the always careless media, managed to depict the Democrats as the party that has nothing to offer economically anxious people but gender neutral bathrooms and identity politics. Even though the GOP started those debates by banning trans bathrooms in NC.

He's finally going after people like me…
I never want another person to ever tell me Trump is a "Friend" to the LGBT community ever again unless said statement is dripping in sarcasm.

Part of me feels like this is a calculated move by the administration to take focus of off the other scandals, but still holy fuck Trump what are you doing.

So is this why he threw up the bizarre false flag yesterday out of nowhere attacking WaPo and Amazon? Gearing up to lessen this impact? Or is this impact designed to overshadow something even more nefarious coming tomorrow? Does it even matter whether this is actually 12-d chess or just the disorganized toxic brain farts of an evil, senile piece of shit? Hard to say anymore.
On the legal side, is there anything that can be done against this transgenders-in-military thing? Like, can the ACLU sue the commander in chief for discrimination?

This is what my BF said. This reeks of "Russia collusion stuff? Healthcare bill failing over and over despite Republicans having ALL the power? Horrible Partisan Boy Scout speech that the media is ripping me apart over?…. need a distraction.... I KNOW! Attack the transgenderedses!!"
I don't like how attacking people like me is a valid distraction in the Trump Whitehouse's Playbook.
It makes me scared that next time around when Trump's Travel Ban gets shot down again or he finally gets indicted for something in Russiagate, he'll move on to a federal bathroom ban or something.

Guys, nothing is a distraction. They're just dumb, evil people. And in this case they need to keep the Confederacy on board after Sessions gets fired, while also attempting to consolidate the Rust Belt.

Yes and no
http://www.politico.com/story/2017/07/26/trump-transgender-military-ban-behind-the-scenes-240990
After a week sparring with his attorney general and steaming over the Russia investigation consuming his agenda, President Donald Trump was closing in on an important win.
House Republicans were planning to pass a spending bill stacked with his campaign promises, including money to build his border wall with Mexico.
But an internal House Republican fight over transgender troops was threatening to blow up the bill. And House GOP insiders feared they might not have the votes to pass the legislation because defense hawks wanted a ban on Pentagon-funded sex reassignment operations — something GOP leaders wouldn’t give them.
They turned to Trump, who didn’t hesitate. In the flash of a tweet, he announced that transgender troops would be banned altogether.
Trump’s sudden decision was, in part, a last-ditch attempt to save a House proposal full of his campaign promises that was on the verge of defeat, numerous congressional and White House sources said.

This keep getting more and more disgusting! I could make a list of why this is stupid, but on top of all this I don't think this bill has been passed yet. Mr. Art of the Deal screwed these people over for something he might not even get!
Also, that article about how Mexico will stop buying corn from us, costing farmer 19 billion hurts all the more. This sucks for everyone, and I doubt anyone will be happy in the end.

I fucking love how people defending this says it takes money away from the military when 84 MILLION of the DoD budget last year went to giving soldiers and other DoD employees Viagra.
