hey, glad to join all the one piece fans here, but i have some questions about the anime / manga.
1. On drum island when Luffy is climbing the mountain how come he can't stretch his arms to climb?
2. Why is Eneru called Enel as well?

Ok if I can remeber right…
1. Didn't he have to be super careful cus of Nami? and even he has his limits in reach?
2. I think its the same with Ala/Arabasta... they don't have an 'r' or something so it gets replaced with an L? I can't remember...

It's the other way around. They don't have any Ls. But Oda is an expert in many things that are forign to him. Including Romanji. Examples being: Luffy's wanted posters both spelled with an L, Zolo's wanted poster spelled with an R, and countless other instances where he spells their names and the Japanese word for Strawhat in plain English. But he never put Enel's name in Romanji, which is also why Toei doesn't know his Romanji name.
And it is plainly seen that he could easily streatch his arms longer than 5 kilometers at the end of Drum. So he should have been able to grab the top of the mountain and climb the rest of himself up slowly with is feet.

it's got nothing to do with toei, it's K-F choice tu put Enel for Eneru. and Zolo is the 4kids+Viz translation. he's zoro, zoRo.
and no, he can't stretch his arms to 5 kilometers away, where did you see that? it's limited to max 2-300 meters i'd say, maybe 500 but it's the very limit. he's rubber, you can't extend rubber too much, it'll break.
ok I was kinda right about the L and R thing.
And yeah, rubber has its limits as said above~
Didn't you see him Gum Gum Bazooka Wapol off the island? his arms were obviously atleast 3 times longer than the Drum Rockies are Tall.
And since you asked for it, here goes:
SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT THE L/R THING! I KNOW THE FUCKING DIFFERNCE AND ZOLO IS THE WAY I LIKE IT!
oh, look at luffy's gomu gomu no bazooka at the end of drum… kilometres... you have a clear view on the island ^^

You really need to lay off the coffee. No one asked if you KNEW about the L/R the topic starter was just asking why Ener was Enel. nothing to bitch about.
edit: we were talking about ENER/ENEL anyway….. how did Zoro get dropped in it..

:withstupi
i'd like to continue arguing with you but the the little guy above says it all. :glare:
EDIT: funkyfunkyusopp if you want to know why did zoro come in the discussion, please read what rama said in his constructive reply. but you can also forget about it as it's not interesting at all. it's up to you

Yeah and I like it better if George W. Bush wouldn´t be the president of the United States of America. Unfortunally to me he is and no matter how much I like the opposite it´s not the truth so I just accepted it.

Yeah I read that… I just was like.... why the hells he ranting about Zoro... I mean he could have replied without his panties in a twist.

true, by the way i can't admit the zolo stuff coz each time i read it i've got the sentence "come on zolo, let's golo" in my head and it's pretty freaky imo.

Zolo sounds like a candy we have here 'Rolo' so I wince when I hear it. If ppl talk to me about One Piece where I live I ALWAYS correct them…
Zolos are a whole roll of smiles!
I couldn't resist bringing this picture back XD
it was too much fun..
but I use Enel,, it just seems proper.. "Eneru" looks a bit off.. but thats just my way of thinking.. <_<;
Alright look seriously, we can stop yelling about the zoro-zolo thing now. I mean it. They changed it because fox has it trademarked, and there's nothing that can be done about it, and nobody cares whether you prefer it or not. Shut up, sit down, and take your god damn pills.
Oh, and nice pic SereneCrimson ^_^
haha great pic XD
I like ENER/ENERU more cus ENEL sounds like ANAL..
I reckon 'Eneru' is supposed to be short for 'enerugi' ( 'energy' in Japanese ), so a 'R' would probably be more correct than a 'L'. Maybe.
I always alternate between 'Enel' and 'Ener' because I am silly. ('_')b

Ah that makes some sence… I just refuse to use ENEL..
In the JAP version of Grand Battle Rush his name is written Enel so I use that name, I know games aren't canon but I think they have to do that right at least.
That's why I use "Bon Clay" instead of "Bon Kure" as well…<_<
bon KURE? never heard that one before..
I like ENER/ENERU more cus ENEL sounds like ANAL..
You have to admit, Enel does act ANAL.
You have to admit, Enel does act ANAL.
Well yeah…. poor mommy...
not seen much of him though. skipped Skypiea.
bon KURE? never heard that one before..
Many people call him like that because his name is written with the kanjis KU and RE, even the people who do the spanish fansubs of the anime use Bon Kure, argh ><
Thats real new….. ah well Bon-clay all the way~
I call him Bon Kurei because that has been revealed to be the official spelling of him in the manga. Check the title page of chapter 372. I don´t mind at all if people still see him as Bon Clay in their view but at least those people shouldn´t be so persistant about the Zolo stuff, because this is actually the same thing here.
Oh yeah, a question. If people think of anal when they hear the term Enel, does they think of the same thing when the hear the term angel?

Oh and do you think of anal too when you think of the term angel?
About Zolo, THANK YOU! You're a very rare person it seems. Rare means weird, and I adore weird. (If I didn't, I would be a hypocrite) And Enel=Angel makes way more since, even though he's technically a demon.

YES! YES I DO!
I just mean it sounds like anal too me…
and you can have gay angels so.
And you can have gay angels so.
That's news to me. Besides, why can't you link it to poop and not gay sex? Hentai baka! (translation=Stupid pervert!)
True that he is no angel but he got introduced as a god in ther first place. Of course later we found out that he is none, but that doesn´t matter because in the begining we aswell as all the Skypieans took him for one.
And names themselves have to make their impact at the begining because you later get attached to them no matter if they sound good or whack. So in the begining we thought he was a god and while that idea was still fresh it helps to have a name that supports it. Of course everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion but to me Enel sounds more godly then Ener or Eneru because of it´s resemblance to "angel". And last time I checked gods and angels go very well together. Of course if I ever get an official spelling from Oda that proves it to be anything else then Enel then I´ll go that one. But until that happens I´ll go with what I think suits the character the best.
That's news to me. Besides, why can't you link it to poop and not gay sex? Hentai baka! (translation=Stupid pervert!)
for the love of… who let you out your box.
EDIT: I know what hentai baka means, thank you.
Ener = Energy?
Makes more sense. That or I just hate how Enel sounds.
Yeah, I'm not a big fan as to the way that Enel sounds, so I just call him Ener. Even though I don't really care one way or the other… just personal preference... and its a real gray area.
I call him Bon Kurei because that has been revealed to be the official spelling of him in the manga.
Bon Kurei is the English spelling? That's news to me.
Also, I hear that Bon Kurei/Clay is supposed to be a holiday, but does anyone have any info on it? I tried Googling it, but the most I got was info on the Bon Odori festival ( "Bon Dance," whch I suppose is fitting for Bon-chan ) ….
ALSO, when I think Enel, I think Eminem. * shrugs *

EDIT: I know what hentai baka means, thank you.
That was mostly for everybody else, so there. And let myself out of my non-existant box.
I think Enel's name is supposed to be debateable. So Oda tries not to spell it in Romanji.
ALSO, when I think Enel, I think Eminem. * shrugs *
Haha, that might even be intentional, too. Well, on Oda's part.
Haha, that might even be intentional, too. Well, on Oda's part.
It is. Oda happens to have a bad taste in rap (is there any other kind?) and he probably based Enel off of M&M.
Zolo sounds like a candy we have here 'Rolo' so I wince when I hear it. If ppl talk to me about One Piece where I live I ALWAYS correct them…
Nya ha
CHATTY CATHY!
The first time I heard that, I about died.

Well you can take a look for yourself by clicking here.

Hmm, Eminem doesn´t have neither l nor r in it so I fail to see where this comes from however just looking at Enel/r himself you should actually be reminded of Eminem.
And as Zephos said, that Ener = Energy is too obvious to not have anything to do with it. And since I´m a defender of the theory that Oda tries to combine mutliple inspirations in his names for some characters (elaborated that in the character names faq for guys like Mihawk) I actually think that what Zephos says and that the angel reference have something to do with it.
The "energy" thing doesn´t need to be elaborated because even a blind person can see how that can be connected to the god of Skypiea. But there´s a bit more to say about the angel thing.
When you work yourself through the bible, then name´s that end with an el aren´t rare. There´s names like Gabriel, Ariel, Daniel or Ezechiel. Well except for names like Daniel and Michael, name´s that end with el always have this religous flair to me. And since Enel is supposed to be a god I think the el suits him better. By my book Enel is a combination of the term energy and the ending some biblic names have. Would work well. With Enel you get the reference to both of them, but with Ener you get just the reference to energy.
Besides name´s that end with an "er" or with an "or" are so cliche. To me at least.
Well anyways, I´m actually not argumenting to take my view for the real deal, I just thought I should share some food for thought. Might be interesting to the one or the other.
I thought that was VERY interesting. ^_^ And yes, of corse the M&M thing was about his face.
Eminem's not that terrible, only Encore sucks. And it….sucks alot...
But I wouldn't call Oda's rap taste bad.
then again, he did like Star Wars Episode 1....<_<
lol i enjoyed star was 1 too.
i, too, think that eneru has something of eminem or is it the opposite?

The ting with rap, there's no such thing as good taste. But rap is a fad in Japan right now, so oh well.

I want some! XD

Fallen angel, perhaps?

OH! That reminds me! I believe that "el" is actually Hebrew for "god". It was in the little concordancy thingy at the bottom of my Bible. That actually does make alot of sense. Now we just gotta find out the meaning to "en".

I've never thought about that! Interesting indeed.

I was going to refute your ignorant statement.
But I see youv'e been banned.
Congratulations.
How did he get banned, anyway? Other than being annoying?
This thread is funny, though.
K-F had some reasons why they chose use Enel, but I'm too sleepy to look it up now.
