Chapter 848 - "Goodbye"
-
-
Definetly killing herself…good chapter, really enjoyed it
-
Why in nine hells would she kill herself?
Sure, that seems to be a likely possibility, but still.
Looks like Smoothie is a longleg after all.
-
I hope she kills herself. It will make things very exciting.
-
I'm in love with the colorspread, it's really pretty
-
Refreshing to see some people in the group going against the odds to get job done.

What do you think she told them then. They wouldn't make such a face he she just planned to leave
oh and I noticed a drawing mistake for once. Tamago denden mushi should have the face of Smoothie and not his.
-
Holy shit poor Sanji.
-
The mask that Sanji wear, not just a mask that can hide his broken face, but also a mask to his personality. To appear lovey dovey is just a thing to make him feel himself.
So after all this time … :( -
Pudding will probably just stand up to Big Mom and saying that she's leaving just like Lola did.
Luffy and Nami react like that because they know that's suicide. -
What do you think she told them then. They wouldn't make such a face he she just planned to leave
Because Luffy and Nami literally just heard Big Mom talk about wanting to kill Lola for bailing on her arranged marriage. Pudding may think she's safe as evidenced by her flashback panel to Lola leaving in the chapter but Luffy and Nami know otherwise now, hence their faces.
-
Great colourspread, it was a nice departure from all the brightly coloured ones that we were getting lately.
On the other hand I'm glad to see some sweet Brook action this chapter. He has my favourite fighting style among all the Straw Hat Crew members and he's finally getting his chance to shine (hopefully) in this arc. Like how many have theorised, I'm guessing that Brook's fruit will act as a natural counter against the homies and even Big Mum's powers, similar to Luffy's fruit against Enel's.

Lol why didn't think of that.
But I guess her runnning away is really akin to suicide at this point… -
Maybe but why would she be in tears then ?
-
Because she still likes Sanji and the idea of getting married, if it had not been for the present situation ?
Great chapter altogether, it's nice seeing Brook get his moment at last
-

"Sanji is gay."
-
-
The flashback Panel where BM talks to Pudding confirms that Pudding is the 3-eyed Girl.
I checked once again and the chair "they" are sitting on is exactly the same.
Still wondering if ths 3rd eye has an ability… cough Kiku-cannon cough. And I guess Brook vs Smoothie will be a fun fight to watch. Her Long naked legs will drive Brook crazy and she will feel totally uncomfortable in Brook's presence (or she will fall in love with him).
I don't expect a serious fight though. -
Take that, people who ever doubted Pudding. She is more convinced that Sanji belongs to the Strawhats than Sanji himself.
In my book that makes her an official honorary member of the Mugiwara crew, and that's the bottom line!
-
maybe finally people will stop suspecting pudding to be evil despite all those proofs of the contrary
-
I suppose there is a mirror in the treasure room and that is how Brook will escape
-
I love seeing Pedro in action for the first time.
And Pudding's plan is the saddest kind of dramatic irony. Unless she actually knows what Big Mom will do, which makes it even sadder.
That being said, I can't help but wonder if some kind of twist will still come into play

Well it's not as hard for Pudding to do it when she's only risking her own life
-

Since the emphasis so far has been on infiltration, I would hope him to mysteriously vanish and/or cleverly fake his death (haha), rather than to fight his way out.
Although there could certainly be some comedic value in watching Smoothie try in vain to wring out his body fluids. Not to mention the pervy skeleton jokes Brook might come up with in return@Kaido:

Agreed. If Pudding is somehow unavailable for the wedding, then Big Mom does not get to open the Tamatebako and all the foreshadowing will have been for nothing. So I can't quite see her plan fully playing out.

Geez. Not that I don't think it'd be an interesting turn, but are we really expecting Oda of all people to do that?
-
I was more replying to user above me, though.
-
Oda is on fire! Good shit, Brook and Pedro are bad-ass and shit is really gonna go down at the wedding, this is gonna be IIIInteresting :)!
Also!!! 4 weeks without a break! Siiick :D

Don't you Forget Ceasar! He will do sth really stupid/genious to save/doom the day…!
-
-
Pudding going full Juliet here poisoning herself.. then Sanji going full Romeo after.
-

!
!
I think that we have a habit of not giving Oda enough credit for how dark he can get. Not that I'm fully convinced she'll try to kill herself (thinking of Lola in this same chapter makes me think she's going to try a similar tactic of running away due to juxtaposition), but it's still a legitimate possibility for this manga.
Also, is no one going to mention how Pedro pulled a Zorro?
!
-
Sorry, felt like including some opposition. :P
I'll survive
Wonder how far her she pushes her escape before caught. And if it will work to help SH that much. With all these plot points starting to slowly converge towards the climax, I can't help but be worried a little. I wasn't much of a fan of how Dressrosa turned out.
-
@Count:
snip
That's fair, I s'pose when I see something as directly worded as "killing herself", my mind just defaults to her plunging a knife through her heart or something.
-
Pudding's plan seems more rooted in ignorance. She thinks Lola told the truth, and doesn't know how her mom really feels about Lola, so she thinks whatever attempt she makes will go well when it most likely won't end well.
-

That still could be her plan. Now that she succeeds is another story.
-

Nami shoved a knife into her shoulder several times because of detesting her Arlong Pirates tattoo. And Hililuk blew himself up (even though he was already going to die lol). A knife through the heart, slitting wrists, or slicing her neck… Eh, I can't see Oda going as far as actually showing that type of gore. But I can definitely see him teasing such a possibility before it inevitably gets stopped before or as the knife approaches her body. Assuming that's even how she would do it lol (although she did have a knife with her in an earlier chapter...). And assuming she even wants to kill herself rather than run away lol.
-
What impressed me more about this chapter is how Big Mom respectlessly treats her daughters and sons, Pudding could not even decide her wedding dress, not even something as small as that. "You're just like a sweet little doll. Darling". Now i know for sure that Big Mom needs to be punished in one way or another.
Pudding, just like Sanji, seems completely resigned to the fact that she'll never be free, and she plans to take an extreme action in order to solve everything, either she just wants to kill herself to cancel the wedding and free Sanji, or she plan in someway to kill her mother in the process to ensure Sanji's friends will be safe afterward. They both need to fight back their resignation and try to reclaim their freedom, neither of their actual plans are what really will solve their problem.

The devil is in the details, as they say. Clearly I am underestimating Oda :)
Me personally? I have no idea what her fate will be.

Fate as in what she will attempt to do or if she might actually die regardless of if she attempts suicide/runs away? Because we all know about how death works in this series. XD
-
The thing that makes her dying interesting as a plot twist is that it would upset everyone on all fronts. Luffy would be livid at big mom for creating such a situation, big mom will blame her death onto Luffy and Nami, And Sanji would just be an emotional mess. Germa 66 would be frustrated. It adds a new twist to the prince and princess motif for sure.
Hope Oda isn't gonna go soft on us. We need some Arlong Park level drama and darkness

That and her fate after all is said and done.
-
Pudding is not going to die regardless of whatever she tries to pull lol. Everyone, including Big Mom, is getting a happy ending when this arc wraps up. The Vinsmokes and Bege on the other hand are getting their asses kicked (although the latter has potential for redemption and some sort of team-up later in the story after learning his lesson).

She really shouldn't, though.

So Giant Stuffed Bear for new nakama?
Loved this chapter especially with Brook being able to shine. That panel with him playing music with his "demon soul" being shown to combat the soul controlled soldiers was funny and straight up epic. It's nice to see Brook contributing finally and Oda did an excellent job to show how being the Soul King puts him in an advantageous situation. Also like how his joke about being all bones translated into Tamango saying Brook must be captured, not killed since that will make an interesting addition to Big Moms collection. Speaking of Big Mom, once again she shines with how expressive and fun she is all exemplified by the page where the first panel she is happy then the last panel she is angry.
To top it off this actually made me come to like Pedro and Pudding to an extent. Pedro not as much but seeing him in action was pretty cool so there is something a bit more memorable about him. As for Pudding she is just too sweet and the fact that she is willing to get killed to get Sanji back to his crew speaks volumes about her. That and I cried a little with the small flashback where Pudding saw Lola off.
Hopefully next chapter we can get some time to see Chopper and Carrot in action, but if that is skipped I can be happy with what we got this chapter.
-
@S.C.:
She really shouldn't, though.
Hey, I'm not saying that change isn't needed for all of horrible misdeeds she's committed. But it's still gonna happen lol.
If it makes you feel better, I expect someone in the Marines like Akainu to come in and magma fist her or something at some point after Totland ends lol.
-
Is Chopper wrecking shit in the Mirror House while this is going on?
-
It's just a stupid suggestion, but if it is merely about political marriage. Even if Pudding runs away. Doesn't Momma have a handful more daughters to spare? It's not like Judge cares who marries his son.
A pointless side question: Did Oda already create Big Mom's personality and her political marriage agenda, when he decided to create Lola a decade or so ago?

I think he already had a vague idea of Big Mom, though the details weren't still refined.

Why should Bege learn a lesson when he's simply doing what Law or Viola did to Doula Mongo?

Big Mom marries her children as they come, so there's probably no one free besides actual children (and I think BM has standards for that).

This arc's storyline does not cut it with me. After Luffy and co saved Robin a situation like this should never have happened again. I used to like Sanji because I thought he actually believed Luffy would be Pirate King. The SHs sailed into the NW and take on the Yonko, but now all of a sudden Sanji is trying to save the crew's life from Big Mom by sacrificing himself. After Enies Lobby I couldn't imagine any of the SHs doubting Luffy's will to succeed. Robin wanted to die to protect her loved ones, and Luffy basically explained to her (and the others) to cut that shit out… and now Sanji does the same thing. Oda has flopped by making this another rescue arc with a similar dynamic to Enies Lobby. Any moment from the past of Sanji saying "Luffy is the man who will become Pirate King" have gone to shit now. That speech Sanji gave to Luffy and Nami about how they were scum pirates was so cringey... even if it was faked. Having Sanji "leave" the crew to try and save their lives was a bad move from Oda, he fucked Sanji's character up and the arcs storyline up.
Big Mom's crew are okay but do not have my interest... it's been a while since I've liked a character that wasn't the main villain, maybe Vergo back on Punk Hazard, Gecko Moria's crew, I liked some of Enel's underlings and of course Baraque Works were awesome. Hody Jones, Donflamingo and Big Mom so far have had underlings with decent designs (however a bit too consistently wacky for me) but their roles in the arcs have been pretty lame (show up, reveal weird personality trait, bits of repetitive dialogue, half decent fights finished too soon or finished by skipping chunks of the fight itself). I suggest Oda goes for quality over quantity when it comes to introducing new characters. I hate to admit it but One Piece has gone downhill, yet I do think the final part of One Piece will be good.
-
I FUCKING LOVE ONE PIECE!!!!!! ITS BACK BABY!!!! When I saw the title I thought I was going to hate it for sure, but thank you Oda for proving me wrong. That panel with Brook saying naw bitches you're messing with the SOUL KING!!!! made me sooooooooooo happy!!! Hopefully this also puts all those Pudding is evil theories to rest. Sanji doesn't deserve her.
