Actually, another reason I think that Sanji is doing the "Get out of here!" thing might be to protect Nami. We saw his brothers' reactions to her, and we know they're very much the "I get what I want and women are just playthings" type of assholes. We also noticed Sanji noticing their reactions to her. I'd bet at least part of his wanting them to leave is remembering what happened to the young chef lady earlier.
Chapter 843: Vinsmoke Sanji
-
-
The way I see this arc panning out and concluding is Big Mom falls for Luffy (which girl doesn't?) She falls for his endless appetite, his bottomless courage and fearlessness and his ability to stand up to her without breaking a sweat. I honestly think she will ask to marry him :ninja:
And maybe the whole Lola thing will swing in their favor…
-
Next chapter is going to be crazy! Always wanted to see a fight with Luffy & Sanji.
-
This was a pretty damn strong chapter. The spoilers didn't do justice to those panels with Sanji's reaction to seeing Luffy. It definitely feels like Sanji is putting up a act in front of his family rather than "Don't save me" act like Robin.
As for people saying that Sanji shouldn't be doing this considering their bonding time, and stuff. Well consider the fact that Germa threaten Zeff. Not the Strawhats ( or at least i don't remember it). Even if Sanji were to tell Luffy, and the others, they simply can't do anything about Zeff. And Sanji knows his family. This to me doesn't feel like an out-of-character-moment. The idea itself feels like a rehash but execution is different.
-
If BM plans to be the villain in another arc later on, she better keep her crew together. The arc just started and she lost 2 of the 4 top commanders…
-
Cracker will be up and running by next Vinsmoke flashback.
-
Anyone else notice that Ma D. Monk needed cracker, a ginormous fleet and a storm to take him down and he still escaped with his life?
-
I understand those who are bit frustrated/annoyed about the similarities this is having to W7/EL rescue arc, but the way it is shown here is very different. I don't see a reason why we need an explanation as to why Sanji is doing this when it is already explained in the chapter before he confronts Luffy. He's basically making sure Luffy doesn't fuck up and make him lose his hands and Zeff.
-
Cracker will be up and running by next Vinsmoke flashback.
I don't know about that, the 4th guy seems like he just …vanished.
Besides, there can't be a more fitting battle for cracker then luffy, because he has the perfect counter for his food df.
-

He probably had help. Maybe his crewmen aren't total noobs.
Potential secret ally maybe?

He probably got killed.
Urouge is a true Blackbeard pirate in spirit if not in reality.

I'm pretty sure Sanji's act won't work on Luffy, but with him fighting Luffy next chapter things might be unpredictable, given that Sanji is weaker I wonder how will convince Luffy to wait a bit longer.
-
Sanji is not pulling a Robin 2.0, we all know Oda is not such a bad story writer. I'd really like if he'll go that far as having a plan or pulling a Mr. Prince return, even though those panels where he showed a stressed face expression, remembering his time with his friends, make his intentions even more ambiguous and hard to read, and they don't really confirm anything.
By the way, what's with Luffy dismissing Big Mom's power just like that xD, or is just mangastream going overboard as always? "That doesn't sound like such a big deal". Ominous words
. I feel like Luffy is going to receive such a total and devastating defeat…
-
Maybe this isn't an excuse to get close to Luffy to talk to him, but rather Sanji trying to get the cuffs taken off like Raleigh did.
Gotta love the way Luffy talks nonchalantly about invading a Yonkou's territory alone while half the crew is getting ready to start a fight with another one. Hanging off the side of Germa's carriage with all the royalty present.
-
Anyone else notice that Ma D. Monk needed cracker, a ginormous fleet and a storm to take him down and he still escaped with his life?
You forgot to mention that he needed all of these after fighting a yonko commander he surely is strong
-
I don't understand why people have a problem with what Sanji is doing. Sanji is arguably one of the more intelligent SH and he knows that his Dad will blow his hands off if he gives him a reason. I would love to see Luffy pull a rayleigh in their fight. Maybe Sanji tries to use his hands trying to tip Luffy off and Luffy sees the bracelets or maybe Sanji just says something to him. Robin was trying to protect the crew while sanji is trying to protect himself and Zeff. Obviously Sanji knows he can't beat Luffy and I doubt this fight will go past gear 2nd and 3rd. I could see once the bracelets are off for SAnji to just run away with Luffy and Nami. Then taking down the Vinsmokes to escape the island. The only problem is Zeff idk how that will get resolved
Even though I don't think BM will be defeated this arc I think it would be cool to see Nami fight the weather that BM creates Brook to contract the soul part of her DF and then Luffy to just beat her physically. Hey maybe it will just be perfect circumstances like with Enel and Croc.
-
Really good chapter. It's the kind of chapter that will make Sanji's big moment later in this arc so satisfying. The built up since the beginning of this arc has been amazing IMO.
-
So we are gonna have two "Robins" this arc, Sanji and Jimbob.
-
whose eye is behind ichjis head judge ? Or just an extra hearth
-
I'm really curious to see what Oda does with Luffy after this fight. Trap him in between buildings again? Lol

Well, he does need to find out that Jinbe is also there in the Island.

I Wonder how BM feels about it. Like maybe she doesn't like fail and took away some of his years, like 40?:ninja:
-
From a plot point view, the current situation can´t be solved by Sanji leaving with Luffy and Nami right now and Sanji is fully aware of that.
His act is the best of the worst solutions he can pick right now, at least from his perspective. Plus, he cannot directly tell them about his cuffs and the blackmail cause that would make him look weak but he is a proud man.
So either Sanji manages to put a message into his kicks, explaining his situation, so they can help him solve it later, or what´s more likely, he´ll try to be the hero who wants to solve it by himself, as implied by his speech today.
That means, he´ll actually pull off the "you pirate trash" portion believably (to Luffy, at least confusing him) for a while until they get more intel from another person. If it´s the latter, he´s going to demonstrate his "seriousness" by also kicking his favorite female (who lets him / as per her request / it will be hidden and later shown as fake).
Oh yeah, and in this scenario, oversensitive people might want to brace themselves in advance, cause Sanji will "beat" Luffy here. -
Sanji's reaction is pretty much expected, but I did not think he would go this far. Though it does seem like the crew should know that his act is complete BS, given that Nami did the same thing in Arlong Park and Luffy has never given up on a crew member but is sometimes too dumb to know why they act that way. I would assume she is crying because she sympathizes with his situation.
This is more in line with what Nami said to Usopp & Luffy rather in Arlong Park rather than Water 7, though. Robin was more cryptic in that one and it was more of what she did (allegedly kill Iceburg) than what she said. Of course there is less reason to believe in a Sanji betrayal than those two, who were introduced as fairly mysterious or selfish characters, especially given Sanji's actions in Zou. This is why unlike the Robin & Nami situations, there is no pretense of "did Sanji betray them?" because the reader was outright told and shown why Sanji can't reunite with the SHs.
Unlike the earlier instances, the only intended mystery is whether Sanji has a plan to escape his predicament or is just going to resign himself to the ultimate fate as a tool of the Vinsmokes.
I am very interested to see where Sanji vs Luffy goes. Will sanji tip off Luffy mid-fight? Because I'm sort of envisioning a mock fight where Luffy loses and is brought to the castle to be later freed in secret. I mean, Sanji has to know that he can't beat Luffy and if he does lose, the other Vinsmokes may succeed.
I'm really curious to see what Oda does with Luffy after this fight. Trap him in between buildings again? Lol
Well, we should all expect Luffy to be "detained" yet again given that he is a walking demi-god during actual fights. Maybe be will be frozen and entombed in a block of peanut brittle for 20 chapters? But my theory is capture. Sorta similar to Thriller Bark.
-
Hmm… takes me back to Whiskey Peak... Luffy vs. Zoro... and the winner wa Nami...

Seastone net anyone? The Vinsmokes should have either wealth/tech to have some and while taking to Sanji he would make an easy target.

(@pariston_hill:
I agree thar the execution is what really counts, but I still feel that the whole straw hat is blackmailed into doing one biding by having a death threat on those he hold dear can be done only a certain amount of times before losing effect.
I also think Sanji could have been more subtle and less harsh, all of the Mr.Prince's action were very subtle, I think he has a plan to relay a message to Luffy and Nami i just didn't like the way it started. And, for some completely different all the Vinsmoke brothers showed the heart eyes upon seeing Nami. I wonder if it's a side effect of genetic modification.

Robins blackmail was the strawhats themselves.

"There's this chick I've got to see real quick. I'll be back. I promise."
Has anyone posited the theory that Sanji came back to save his sister?
-
It's kind of frustrating that after literally not interacting face-to-face with Sanji for 140+ chapters Luffy gets told off in such a harsh way, it was pretty painful to read.

It didn't look easy for Sanji either.
-
It's pretty obvious that Sanji doesn't mean this, he just can't go with them right now because Zeff and his hands will be destroyed. Now, if he tells that to Luffy during the fight or if it's a Nami or Robin situation remains to be seen. It's not really a rehash of what came before in Arlong Park and Water 7 and Enies Lobby because Nami was being used by Arlong and couldn't escape and made it look like she was cutting ties with the crew in order to achieve her common goal that she told Luffy about when she joined, Robin was being chased by the World Government and just wanted to accept her fate and die but was cryptic about what she was doing and only told the crew some of it while Sanji will lose everything if he goes with Luffy and Nami and Sanji's has to do with his family. Still a really good chapter, I can't wait for next week's chapter to see how this plays out.
-
Well, he does need to find out that Jinbe is also there in the Island.
Jinbe needs to hurry and give up a limb.
-
Don't know you but I love the chapter. Sanji's reaction is a fusion between crew trying to save Robin episode and Luffy vs Usopp part…at the end Sanji will say "I wanna live!" and Luffy would reply "You know you ain't gonna beat me, fool".
-
The cuffs on his hands will explode the moment he tries anything crazy, so no amount of trust in Luffy will save his hands at the moment.
One Strawhat was willing to cut his feet to save the rest of the crew. Sanji is not handling this the right way IMO.
-
My name… is Vinsmoke Sanji. I am prince… of the Germa Kingdom! I apologize for hiding it from you all until now.
But i had my reasons… i didn't want all of you to develop a inferiority complex... for being such worthless peasants when standing in my presence!
As long as i stay here… wealth, soldiers, servants... all of it will be at my beck and call.
Return to your ship gallivant and roam the seas with you buffons… or stay put and live in eternal glory wanting for absolutely nothing with Big Mom's beautiful daughter by my side?
I'm sure even the world's biggest idiot… can tell which of the two is the better option here!!
You guys really need to learn how to read between lines… all that i wrote in that letter was just to soften the blow on you guys.
I ain't going back! to think that you'd be dumb enough to come all the way here… sucks to be you but it was all in vain.
Begone... wait... what was your name again?
You stay out of this!
I'll be the one… to take all this trash back were they belong!!!That seems to be a plan.
The male Vinsmokes are really all the same, not even dna manipulation can change that
. It was a good chapter, specially the intro of new Big Mom's powers. That info about the Vivre Card is rather stupid when Lola has it, i wonder what kind of help she was thinking it would have received Nami when meeting Lin Lin.
2- Big Mom attacks with soul power–-> Brook transforms into soul and takes back Luffy soul and "power" and Luffy attacks
I really like this!
Brook should be the solely soul unattracted by the Soru no Mi. I don't think he can meddle with the souls taken… but maybe he can defeat those that attached to physical forms going inside them, like Prometheus adding his heat powers."There's this chick I've got to see real quick. I'll be back. I promise."
Has anyone posited the theory that Sanji came back to save his sister?
Yep, it might be possible.
I also think Zeff would do the same because chivalry is the new sport here. -
My 2 cents on the chapter
Big Mom's power reveal with Prometheus and Zeus is literally insane. Lot to unpack here. This leaves a lot of room to speculate how she created these powers to control the weather. Probably not a second DF like some have suggested as ODA made it such a huge deal that BB was the 1st to gain 2 DFs in history. (Yeah, it'd be one crazy of a reveal for BM to have 2 fruits though). But what irked me was the timeline with Commander Snack, who is obviously the commander that Urouge took down. Pound told us that BM went down to the island herself after Snack got his ass beat and went Armageddon on the entire location. Urouge landed on Raijin Island on his entrance into the New World. Was this an island BM fucked with as well? The coincidence that Urouge landed there, he beat a commander, and BM can summon a thundercloud names Zeus is just too much. There's also the assumption that Urouge got annihilated by BM's forces in the blink of an eye. Obviously he and his crew survived, albeit with injuries. So someone doesn't know the whole story. The battle may also have happened at Balloon Terminal. If you look at the background, it looks like a destroyed town.
On to Sanji. Sanji is obviously doing this purpose, blah blah. What intrigued me however, was bringing the note back up again. Why? I'm thinking there's more to the note. Kinda like the 3Y2Y message. Sanji's no moron. Reiju seems unhappy about that kick. She's obviously conflicted about it. The handcuffs. They were also reinforced again with that flashback. They could have just shown Zeff. Reiju put those cuffs on him. And we know who's side she's on. So wtf is up with the cuffs? Again, there's more to them.
There's a lot of points being reinforced in this chapter. This was a treasure trove of subtle plot points. Least to me. Also that BM has a huge hard on for feeding her kids pastry DFs (not like we didn't know that already).
-
Oh, reading between lines, clever clever!
-
One Strawhat was willing to cut his feet to save the rest of the crew. Sanji is not handling this the right way IMO.
The difference is that Zoro doesn't need feet
-
I'm really curious to see what Oda does with Luffy after this fight. Trap him in between buildings again? Lol
one of the best moments, tbh !
a very emotional one -
= Smoothie?
= Katakuri?
-
@Kaido:
I think Potato is the guy who is going to fight Sanji (poele à frire is the perfect attack) and the Girl is Smoothie, she's going to fight Chopper (because she's a girl)
-
Can't think of any better character design than Charlotte Opera the Minister of Whipped Cream!
But seriously it's the worst…..
-
So, how does BM have soul manipulation powers and weather powers?
-
Anyone else notice that Ma D. Monk needed cracker, a ginormous fleet and a storm to take him down and he still escaped with his life?
I would expect that a guy who knows how to get his ass (and crew apparently) up into the clouds is hard to catch.
Even Blacky couldn't follow Roof up into the clouds
-
@Kaido:
Weren't both Smoothie and Katakuri addressed as Lords, meaning they're both dudes? Or is that just mangastream being mangastream and using Lord for a gender neutral pronoun.
-
Sanji: I'll never forgive a man that makes a woman cry.
Nami: Almooooost
!
-
One Strawhat was willing to cut his feet to save the rest of the crew. Sanji is not handling this the right way IMO.
The crew is not in any need to be saved, so I'm not sure what your point is here.
-
So will Pound ever get that apple juice?
-
and so, with the discussion of last week.
Looks like the "going nuts for girls " thing is a family trait/quirk
!
-
The crew is not in any need to be saved, so I'm not sure what your point is here.
The point is cripple yourself first, think things over later. That is the Sauron way
-
It might've been pointed out, but Sanji's eyebrows switched to the wrong way (the Germa 66 way) in at least one panel in this chapter. Probably a mistake by Oda.
