There are some additions in Crybaby, namely character stuff, but all of the tech updates and things around that are just to keep the story modern and relevant, since the media climate has somehow changed a bit in the last 45+ years. Calling it filler is missing the point.

After not having watched an anime for 2 years or so, decided to watch Shouwa Genroku since it got so praised in myanimelist
It was a nice and at times poetic story but i was never fully invested in the characters, the constant timeskips and the short time did not make it possible.
In addition, i think due to teh language barrier, i never got the appeal of Rakugo, so a lot of what the characters described was not accessible for me.
And then there is the suggestion at the ending…

This is kind of cheating, but I got sucked into an anime I normally wouldn't follow via youtube recommendations. Juuni Taisen, a death battle anime with characters based on the Chinese zodiac. I saw a clip of the tiger girl getting into a fight with a headless flamethrower man, and I needed to figure out what the heck was going on. Turns out one of the main characters is a Necromanist rabbit-man. It's a weird show.
I can't tell if this show is bad or if I don't get it, and that it holding my interest. As far as I can tell, whatever it's trying to do (I think it's pointless on purpose?) it seems to be succeeding in, so good for it.
Without spoiling, the Rat's special ability made for a fun episode.

! -Lol at the Sheep spending one episode planning his battle, only to die to the one person he didn't plan for.

And I watched the last episode of Violet Evergarden. If the ending was what I think it was then I wouldn't put above B: The Beggining.
Just finished Space Battleship Yamato and holy SHIT does that show just fucking sputter and die at the ending.
I just watched the Batman Ninja movie and it was entertaining as heck. Ridiculous action, surprisingly great cinematography and a just stunning scene with Batman, Joker & Red Hood.

Works well as an episodic outlaws show but so far I'm not really that interested in the stuff that seems to be going on in the background. I hope it doesn't get too intrusive, or it turns out better than I'm expecting. First couple of episodes were also kind of off putting. I'm glad it's gotten better as far as I am in it. I still think surfing robots are silly but I do like the stuff about ley lines and the waves.
Revolutionary Girl Utena
I read the manga so knew more or less what to expect, but the anime does its own thing to a certain extent and I like what it's doing. I like the art style in the anime and think it generally looks better than the manga, which usually for me doesn't happen. The anime seems to more or less ignores Utena's desire to find her prince though (at least as of episode 6) while it was a big part of the manga. I like the soundtrack too.
Am I the only one watching Gegege no Kitaro?
It's being a surprise for me, it has had very emotional moments, and now a lot of thriller. Toei is animating it, but it is good for me.
I'm starting to become interested in "Youkais", I've watched Inuyasha and other animes about it, but this has something special about it.
Renton in Eureka 7 is a really unlikable character at times. I suppose the story wants to paint him as growing through his experiences but he frequently acts like a piece of shit. I didn't even have this much of an issue with Shinji in Eva who people always talk about like this.
I'm following suit from Wagomu and watching the original Mobile Suit Gundam. Only one episode in, but I'm excited.

Just watched Kobayashi's Dragon Maids and holy hell does that show do lesbian representation better than 99% of Hollywood. The whole premise with having a will-they-won't they between the two main girls, while they take care of the little girl dragon like a family…. soooooooooo cute. And i legit teared up at the end. 9/10 would recommend for feels good heartwarming Moe. Would give it a 10, but the thing between Kanna and her elementary school friend was a little creepy and very weird, not gonna lie.

Man Eureka 7 was so good. I was worried for a bit that the ending would be depressing but I'm glad it wasn't. There are a few things I don't really get but it doesn't really take away from everything. The beginning of the series could have been better though. It certainly gets a lot better as it goes on.

Yeah. I don't watch much new anime these days, but I was surprised by how much I ended up enjoying Shimoneta. It was definitely an anime that knew how to use sexual comedy for humor to great effect unlike most vapid fanservice shows that just use the same gag every other fanservice show has. Too bad we probably won't get a season 2. 
The Utena anime is too long. I'm on episode 17 and they've just had like 3 duels that were basically identical. I do like pretty much anything to do with Nanami though.

I haven't seen the backlash? If at all, it's been for episode 1 and 2 being suuuuper ecchi and giving false impressions over the series overall. Generally people are treating it they would a usual trigger series, although with more slice of life romance and less explosions and action.
It's not at SAO levels yet, but there has been criticism leveled at the show for being too vanilla in its depictions of love and romance between the characters. Along with the usual "it's a EVA ripoff" stuff that gets thrown around everything but gundam.
If you dropped the series after the first 2 eps (I hated the ass piloting controls too) I urge you to stick with it, because there is a decent story in there. It's not going to be on anyone's top 10 list, but it still tells an interesting story with interesting characters.
Plus that opening theme is amazing.

Well this was something I was not expecting while watching Lupin part 5.

Violet Evergarden - This one caught my eye because it looked so damn beautiful! But I was expecting everything else to be a disappointment so I was pleasantly surprised. It was a good thing it was released weekly, maybe I wouldn't have liked as much if I binge watched the whole thing, but watching it at a slow pace things really did work. Violet as character particularly grew on me, at first she felt like "this is the 1000th time I see this character", a soldier who has no clue what emotions are and need to start understanding them… I mean, seriously?, I was rolling my eyes at that, but her development was actually touching to see and by the end of it you are really rooting for her. 10th episode particularly had me crying like a little kid during almost the whole 24 minutes (I almost never like children in anime, but Ann just got me there. She was so damn lovable even at her bratty moments).
Children of the Whales - Gave it a try because a friend watched it and gave a very positive opinion. The first episode is indeed great, the Mud Whale is a very "charismatic" setting, the culture of the society there seem endearing and the visuals are really amazing. The opening and ending themes are great too. But every episode I just liked it less and less and by the last one I was just hoping the torture would end at once. The characters without a single exception are completely cliché, they all can be summarized by the first paragraph of a wikipedia article regarding some anime trope... the main character have zero drive behind him and is just so ridiculously emotional about everything... god I hate him. Actually, every character is too emotional about everything, everything is too dramatic and the poses, and the gestures, everything screams "common place". When it ended I could just be reminded of that Miyazaki infamous interview.
This anime could have been great if they simply got rid of its characters. You know, a "fictional documentary anime", that's it, that's what this should be.
Where can I watch Marvel Future Avengers ?

Things can get repetitive. The duels sequence are basically the same all the time, the black rose arc episodes pretty much all follow the same structure and the arcs later will also have their own scenes that will be religiously repeated with small changes. Assume they are part of the series identity and try to look forward them or they may end up annoying you (although I admit the Black Rose arc was irking me at some point because of how formulaic things were).
Caught up on Lupin the Third and it still remains enjoyable.
High School DxD hero is making me feel sad this week, but I know it gets better.
Legend of Galactic Heroes is still solid.

I'm re-watching it myself right now. (re-watching as much in that I never properly watched it) And while repetition can get annoying, if they keep making it beautiful, entertaining, and interesting than it's all good. And fuck I love that opening.

Also just found out that Akio's seiyuu is also Arlong's seiyuu. Mind=blown. Also remembering that Takehito Koyasu voiced Touga AND Aokiji. So wrong yet so right.
Yeah I was surprised that they kept the opening the entire way through. Finished it yesterday and thankfully it picked up near the end. I still think it was too drawn out though and like some things from the manga better. I feel like this is a series that would have been better watching weekly rather than "binge" (not really since I only watched a couple episodes a day generally) watching it.
You could say that. But yeah, this series is probably one of the most dramatic ending arcs ever. A lot of saying, "Oh, fuck" and "Holy shit".
Finally finished my watchthrough of the original Mobile Suit Gundam.
! Maybe it's because I've been kinda busy lately and been watching a bunch of other shows/web vidoes, but I kind of lost investment in the show towards the end of the series. Still, a good show overall and it had a pretty awesome finale (though it is a bit weird that the final confrontation between Amuro and Char came down to a fencing match).
! Yeah, it's definitely dated as far as the animation and some of the mecha designs, but the story is still fairly gripping and you do grow to care for the characters (seeing them all reunited at the end was a really sweet moment). The dub however, well…it's decent, I guess, but really really awkward at times. And I think that probably is mostly due to the voice direction, because there are some really talented voice actors working on this (Amuro is voiced by Brad Swaile, the guy who played Light Yagami). But the weird dialogue and awkward pauses are quite abundant in this dub.
! Oh, and I don't know if this is due to the dub or if it was in the original script, but my god those previews gave away way too much. Whenever a character would die in the next episode, they pretty much would just outright say it.
! Well, all issues aside, it was still nice to finally experience an important piece of anime history. In fact, now that I know about the characters and events that preceded it, I'm tempted to go back and rewatch Zeta Gundam.
! Also, saddest/most tragic death for me has to go to Miharu and her poor little brother and sister that she left behind.
Next up I think I'm finally going to get around to watching Steins;Gate, but I think I gotta catch on some other shows and web videos first.

BTW, how are people liking FLCL Progressive? Personally, I feel like it doesn't have quite the same magic or charm as the original, but I think it's steadily been improving with each episode.
High School DxD hero just finished its last episode.
Overall, it's a great season and plays it VERY close to the Light Novel, the first arc is probably not the best, but since the show had to pull double duty because of the third season changes, it is forgivable. But that second half is probably some of the best shit I've watched, both in regards to fighting and character dev in regards to the genre.
I hope we get a fifth season, they tease too much and the overall story arc isn't finished yet, so here is hoping.

Just started Land of the Lustrous, really enjoying it so far. I had been waiting for a dub but I'm tired of waiting. Anyone know if a dub is planned to come out eventually?
I finished Mahoujin GuruGuru yesterday, the 2017 version. It was a really fun ride and above all it's just so well-produced. The colouring is bright and fluid and the animation is top tier, which really helps a lot to the mostly visual nature of its comedy. It is a parody and a quite bold one, which sometimes brings a few tasteless sex jokes that are specially shocking due to its childish looks, but other than that it was great and the comedy kept hitting the right notes to the very end. The fact it even managed to create some genuine tension and anticipation in the fights and the adventure, and even legitimate emotion (episode 20 is a masterpiece) is even more fascinating in a series that never takes itself seriously. Loved it.
I am watching Wolf‘s Rain at the moment for the first time. Great anime, wished I knew it yet but that’s life. Enjoying it to the most!

Kaleid is fun if you ignore a lot of established rules and it's just..a lot of fun and dramatic. But it's set in a really, really alternative universe.
Problem with Blade works is that a lot of characters monologuing gets lost in the adaption and that's what makes a huge part of Fate great.
Once you finish Zero, do give Fate Grand Order(mobile game) a try. It's pretty much one of the top gacha games in japan right now and rightfully so.

I like to a certain extent. If I had to give it a rating it's possibly a 6….5.5ish.
I mean, cool theme song, some freaking good animated scenes.
But terrible pacing(too fast, too slow) and a dumb plot.
I mean I don't want to bring up an argument because it is can be all subjective but objectively it is considered by the fan-base a poor man's fate stay night.
Zero is more of a philosophical series compared to the rest in the sense that almost none of the Masters felt like the main protagonist material because all of them have different worldviews and drastically different personalities.
Even Kayneth(Lancer's master) felt sympathetic in the end.
There's no "hero" or "villain" but different clashing ideologies. Hence why people adored it when it first came out.
There's 3 movies for Heaven's feel. All with the budget of a sportscar garage so yeah, there's a reason why it might feel slow and you confused but the really, insanely good parts come in the second and third ones.

It's good and widely regarded as one of the best sci-fi anime out there for a reason.
The down to earth thing you feel is because none of the character feels stupidly outlandish or anime stereotypes and gravitate more to actual human being.
That's good character writing and the series acknowledge and turn around the stereotypes every so often.
