@RoboBlue:
People dox for a number of different reasons, with the release of personal information being a legal way to directly encourage others to harass an individual.
The doxxing cases I've heard about all fit into two categories:
1.) Revenge on a bully or ex girlfriend/boyfriend. The doxxer generally knows the person well in these cases.
2.) Vigilante action against someone with differing political/religious views or someone of a different race/ethnicity/gender/sex. The doxxer may know very little about the person in these cases.
Oh, I see. Revenge may be nice, but in those cases, you are acting just like the bully, by stealing their information and promoting harassment. (More regards towards the first case.) In the second category, I think people need to understand that others can change, but they won't change if they are getting doxxed, because in a way it can prove that the opposing side is wrong, fueling an argument.
@RoboBlue:
In both types of cases, information spread by doxxing may or may not be accurate. Many completely unrelated people have been harassed as a result, which is why something like this is so dangerous.
Yeah….. that kind of site is bad. Sometimes people say the wrong things, or get misunderstood. So, then the whole world hates you because you made a wrong comment at the wrong time. And also it forgot that people can make good comments too.
Thank you for explaining about how it works. Sounds kinda scary to me, especially if you made a mistake, and the whole world blows up on you. Anyways, going back to how things need to change to help prevent the issue. So, what do you think of starting a petition on the White House website, so then our government can see it is a serious issue? What do you think about that?
And also I think there needs to be something done about bullying too, but in a healthy manner, so someone does not start acting like a bully themselves. As that seems to be an issue on why some people dox in the first place. So, with that in mind, what kind of ideas come to you to help change that?
