I was looking over a clip I got from the Video thread in the anime section and a thought occurred to me.

The clip was the Straw-Hat assault on Franky House. Particularly when Zoro used the Karasuma Gari on several cannonballs. When he does this, he cuts them cleanly in half, to the point where it actually resembles a bowl haircut (Like Rock Lee of Naruto).

This wouldn't have occurred to me normally. But recently I've also been watching the anime School Rumble and in it, the main girl Tenma has a thing for a rather odd boy surnamed Karasuma. A rather odd boy surnamed Karasuma who also bears one of those same bowl cuts that Zoro's Garied cannonballs resemble.

I remember reading that "Tora Gari" was a reference to a hair style as well as meaning "Tiger Hunt/Trap." Combine that with most of Zoro's attacks having double meanings and I'm can't help but wonder, could that same pun be used here with this second Hunt?

Waldorf: You know Statler, after watching the last one thousand episodes of One Piece, I think I've come to a conclusion.

      Statler: No you haven't.

      Both: DOHOHOHOHOHO!

Karasuma is a Crow Demon (In fact it's the Japanese title of the film "The Crow") and as you prolly know Gari is 'Hunt'. Although I've found no solid direct source of inspiration, Karasuma 'Doori' is a road in Kyoto that (as memory serves) was part of a trade route. A quick Google can clear up what it is or isn't but I'll leave that to another member as I'm out the door! But that's the closest I was able to come to finding a double meaning. Sorry for being lax about updating my attack list for Luffy and co. Latez!

No matter where you go, there you are.

karasumagari means leg cramp (komura-gaeri) in Kumamoto dialect. I believe Oda is from Kumamoto. Prop goes to… I think sera? I forgot who pointed it out before.

I do think surname Karasuma from School Rumble is from Kyoto though. At least that surname is more used in Kyoto?
