Okay, the scene I'm referring to is Chapter 79, page 4.

It's the page where Arlong is blowing Bellemere away interspersed with her advice to Nami and Nojiko (don't curse the age you live in, good times will come if you live).

We see a gun smoking.

We see Arlong holding a smoking gun and looking away as Bellemere drops.

We see a cigarette dropping into Bellemere's blood. There's also a figure wearing long pants beside her, likely the source of the cigarette.

But in the previous panel, Arlong wasn't smoking and wore shorts.

So my question: Who extinguished his cigarette in Bellemere's blood?

Also, doesn't Tom Baker want the scarf back from Flashback Arlong? XD

Ah. But who's the guy with the long pants? I guess if it's an incorrect parsing (that he's gone up to the body to douse his cigarette), he no longer matters, though.

I had read to 71 (the end of volume 8) then bought a copy of November ASJ which started at 79, so I missed the fact she was smoking as she died.

Still, I'd invoke manga physics: how exactly would the cig take so long to arrive on the ground that it lands in a pool of her blood? Even assuming she spat it straight up as she fell, it only buys a second or two for all that blood to collect.

You see, it wasn't Bellemere's cig. The Cigarette Smoking Man (from the X files) is in it with the Marine. Captain Nezumi brought him around to meet Arlong and share a drink, and he put his smoke out in the blood!
