In the story Lucci mentioned that Zoan types are the only fruits that can become physically stronger or something like that. So I was thinking, maybe thats forshadowing for Chopper getting a power up somehow.
Also, I think Sanji will learn that hurricane kick move. Do you guys think any of the strawhats will get stronger this arc?
That would be cool if Chopper gets stronger. But how will Sanji learn a secret move? They'll all get emotionally stronger.

i mean, one of the things that distinguish OP from other shounen is the fact that the characters stick with their original abilities (maybe new moves) but still be able to defeat their opponents, even though it might take a long time. look at luffy vs croc. the end is much more dramatic and spectacular because luffy beat croc without learning new technique or anything like that. the only thing new in there was water luffy, but that's totally original.
I have a problem with power growing exponentially, but not with old dogs learning new tricks. What's the difference between Sanji thinking up a new kick and him learning one he'd probably never think of from someone else?
it would kind of be dbzish if they learn moves rather than think them up themselves. like gomu gomu no pistolhe thought of it himself nobodyelse thought of it.
Kuririn, Piccolo, Yamcha, Ten, and many others constantly thought up new moves.

I understand that, but occasionally the do need to get stronger if they are going to make it. and also, you may not realize, but characters do get power ups. Nami got her clima tact, Usopp got the dials, and Zoro got stronger swords, and then he learned how to cut through metal.
I'd like to see chopper think up some new moves or for that matter see him in a fight at all…s'been awhile.
It would be nice for Sanji to learn the Rankyaku, but I just don't see any way for him to learn it. Unless, he can learn it just by watching someone from CP9 do it.

Urg, that's what made me slowly dislike the dragon ball Z series. That and villans that keeps coming back again and again or are "the strongerst being in the universe" eventhough no one heard of them. But, anyways, I guess if it happens once in One Piece it'll be okay. But the serie might lose some of it's originality to me.
I mean aside from Zoro, no one in the Straw hat crew seem to get some really serious training and yet they are still strong. :huh:_
Yeah, when I watched GT I grimaced when I heard Goku say that General Rirudo or whatever was stronger than Buu. I'm like… "Wasn't Buu the goddamn end all evil?!"
Speaking of GT, it just came on now. God, the dub intro is horrendous..
Anyway, like Buc said, I don't mind characters learning new tricks but not getting SUPERPOWERED. Like, Nami getting the Clima Tacts was a necessity, but I was glad that her using Impact was a one-time thing. Usopp getting the dials was also pretty necessary, especially since they'd fit in perfectly for the way he fights. And Zoro got new swords because he had to, Mihawk shattered the two originals.
But like, I don't want to see Usopp to start using a gun or Luffy to be able to use his chi to call the dogs with bees in their mouths and when they bark they shoot bees at you.
As long as powering up and becoming stronger isn't turned into math. The worst thing that happened to DBZ was when power levels were introduced. Not to mention GT, that show made me wanna hurl even when i thought DBZ was the best thing ever!
But that is something that I always enjoyed about One Piece is that they dont have outward increasing in power. Luffy doesn't becoming a Super Devil Fruit User Level Three. It is just great that the Straw Hats usually win by skill rather than power.

Well they are all always getting stronger. Remember when they first learned the Going Merry was unable to go anymore. Zoro said that the crew grows from the experience during their travels and the Going Merry can only store the pain (or something like that). Well they all grow from their adventures, the difference we're looking at is classification of power ups (Super Sayia-jin 1- 1000000) and the constant "Strongest Foe Yet". One Piece doesn't have this problem, yes they improve and get stronger, but they do it gradually, which makes it better.
Power-ups? Sheeeyeah. Imagine the kind of ass Luffy would kick if he grabbed a fireflower or a starman. :lol:
(but in all seriousness, I like the way the OP characters' power progresses already, and power-ups are kinda cheesy anyway)
I always thought of it more as they're becoming more experienced in the real world of the Grand Line rather than continuous power-ups. Every battle makes them stronger, but not in an obvious, over-the-top way like DBZ.
Power-ups are always in One Piece, Luffy gets stronger and stronger in every arcs yet if he powers up I hope he dose not became like how a Saiyin becomes. If any Villian without the Devil Fruit shoots power out of their plams, that won't be a problem
I want Sanji to learn that Storm kick, it would be awesome, and he needs to get little stronger. ANd I also like that there is no power-ups in OP.
Lucchi and pals has practised their whole life time for to be able to do Rokushiki. Now if Sanji learns it in a few days it will be lame. Besides I like his current style and even though I've nothing against it if he comes up with his own counterpart for Storm kick I still dislike the idea of story focusing on training and becoming strong like billion other shounen series out there.
Well, you can assume that before training, CP9 were average people. I mean, they wouldn't have trained if they were already powerful.
Sanji is far above an average person, so it probably wouldn't take as long to learn the move (not Rokushiki, just the Rankyaku).
And since this move is only in Water Seven, you can be assured that if he does learn it, it won't be anything like the training sequences from other manga.

as said before… i believe the PowerUps in OP are given in form of experience. i dun think there will be a sudden increase of power out of the blue (not like, DB or even Naruto)

That is one of the most refreshing things about One Piece. NO PROLONGED TRAINING SCENES. The only person who really trains is Zoro, and that's mostly in the background while other things are going on.
Even if Oda does put in a training sequence or two, you can count on it to not be a constantly recurring thing and it won't drag on forever. He's quite fond of his few-page montages.

I don't want a Saiyin Luffy. If a person wants to power up, fine but if they go Saiyin that'll suck. And we don't need prolong training or str. based on math. Dragon Ball Z sucked because of that, Goku trains but could not wipe Cell out immedenly, yet Krillin, Yamacha, Piccolo, and Tien never gets to grin glory. Vegeta whines about Goku being stronger then him but he PWN Goku sometimes and STILL WHINES. If Luffy powers up, I'll want him to power up without glowing gold like a Saiyian but just like going barserk or something
The only time I would have accepted anything simular to DBZ was someone's idea for a joke before Luffy got kicked by Lucci. It went like this: Luffy would spend a long time doing that DBZ thing where someone looks constipated and screams alot. (Apparently, that boosts your power.) It goes on for a while..and then, out of nowhere, Luffy puts on his afro wig with a little sound effect and is ready to kick ass.
