2016 APCT Fifth Round Discussion Thread: So it's come to this.

Another year, another Tournament enters its final stages.

I used a modified Doolittle system to determine the draw. I have an atlas (several really) but don't want to tear it or mark it up so I'm going to spin a globe, close my eyes, and put my finger on the globe when I hear it stop. The character whose name is closest to the location my finger is resting on when it stops moving is the pick. A place that is named C or D would be Carrot. A or B would be Bellemere. M, N, or O could be either Nekomamushi or Nami so I'll take the first two letters in that case. Per Doolittle rules, no visiting the same country twice and I went again if we landed in the ocean.

! FB character versus my least favorite strawhat (with the exception of Chopper, maybe….). Seeing how Bellemere has done nothing to make me dislike her makes this vote easier.

Sanji vs Jinbe

! This is stupid. I don't like either character that much, but a final between two would've been dandy (seeing how this arc has both front and center).
Carrot vs. Koala

! Out of these two cuties, Carrots more fun and less tertiary. Such is the curse of a secondary FB character.

Nekomamushi vs Ryuunosuke

-Nooooo, my two remaining favorites against each other. Still, Carrot's a better character overall and more likely to win it all than the marsupial.

Nekomamushi vs. Ryuunosuke -At this point only Carrot or Koala will stop me from helping Ryuunosuke climb to the top.

Really loving Jinbe's campaings, but "best couple of OP" has to win this tournament.

Carrot vs. Koala Koala had a great FB story, the only redeeming factor in the Fisher Tiger story.

Koala forever. I never thought she'd actually make it this far, much less after taking on the likes of Bon-chan and Franky. And given Carrot hype has only led to her getting captured already, there's no reason for me to stop supporting Koala. I mean, koala has already had background and character given to her, Carrot is still just potential only. I'll be more eager to take Carrot to champion if she proves herself in coming years.

Hoping also the dragon meme is finally put to rest. The rest of the matches though will be rather difficult. Whoever wins between Sanji and Jinbe is my vote for champion.

Nami vs. Bellemere - It's Best Daughter vs. Best Mom, which makes this just a bit painful, but though we've seen less overall development from Bellemere, I just can't forget her brilliant shining moment in the sun.

Sanji vs. Jinbe - Once again, I just really don't care who wins this one. Campaigns will tell me who to vote for.

Carrot vs. Koala - The bunny cannot be stopped. The bunny shall slay all that stand before it, and leave nothing but destruction in its path. One cannot fight the rabbit, one can only stand back and accept its wrath.

Nekomamushi vs. Ryuunosuke - Ryuunosuke's been faced with some pretty tough challenges, for sure, but he'll keep on going until he climbs to the top. CLIMB TO THE TOP!

Call me a killjoy, but really hoping Sanji/Jinbe lose their next round. I like it best when someone surprising wins the tournament. Last tournament was so incredibly boring because it was obviously Barto's to lose, and I kind of really liked when Noland came outta nowhere and won his year. So put me officially in the Carrot or Nami for champ camp.

Well, I'll find a way to enjoy this, but for now I'm thoroughly convinced that Satan lives inside Ubiq's globe, as these are the very worst match-ups that anyone could have possibly come up with with these eight characters.

Nami vs. Bellemere is just plain cruel, Sanji vs. Jinbe should have been the final match, Carrot vs. Koala is lame and something that I just really don't care about and the same goes for Nekomamushi vs. Ryuunosuke actually.

I think either Carrot or Nekomamushi will win the tournament, but I really hope I'm wrong.

Nami vs Bellemere - Surprised that Bellemere made it this far, but Nami's beaten some tough competition and has more staying power imo

Sanji vs Jinbe - This will probably be the closest match of the round, but overall I'm slighly more invested in Sanji's story than Jinbe's and this is his year ^-^

Carrot vs Koala - Also surprised that Koala is here, I usually voted for her opponent who was in the lead at the time but then she kept making comebacks But I think Carrot is too popular for Koala to overcome
Nekomamushi vs. Ryunosuke - Ryunosuke's ridiculous victory margins have been narrowing each round and now I think slightly more people will favor a genuine character over a meme.

Anyway I can't believe Nami is in the tournament and not Robin for once, this is amazing I would love to see a Sanji vs Nami final because I feel that match up would have the craziest campaigns being pitted against one another.
It's tough because I want Sanji to win at least one tournament he's one of the best OP characters period but Carrot…she's just such a breath of fresh air everything she does turns to gold. I'm not the biggest jinbei fan and Nekomamushi is pretty awesome but if he can't put an end to that drawing then no one can.

Ryu certainly isn't as meme-y as oh say….Pwngoat, and I generally liked his gags. I was just shocked? mystified? that a drawing of minor importance actually got this far. Props to him but he always felt like a prelims character.

It's still amazing/unbelievable that he crushed Doflamingo, of all characters.

Well still, he was a warlord that's been around since volume 25 with a fair amount of history and influence attached.

Why can't side/joke characters get their time to shine? It will be boring if all matches are like Sanji vs Zoro or something. And it builds a sense of community in the forum… I think.

A lot of Barto's club helped in this regard. The going Luffy senpai, the wanted poster gallery on the ship, the huge chopper face on the rear, Bartolomeo and his antics. Classic One Piece comedy all before it even reached the elephant. It's cool though apparently the pig nosed dragon saved that one dude from dropping the series entirely, good for him lol.

Nah even with the jokes aside you won't get boring match ups, but Zoro v Sanji does sound amazing. Take away Ryuu and you still have the likes of Nekomamushi, Carrot, Koala, Rosinante etc they're all side characters, they're all real characters and they're all viable. Including Ryuu is like including characters move sets, because that's essentially what he is a drawing made by Kanjuro. Yet Kanjuro's brilliant artistic mind gets his ass thrown out the tournament very early on, without him you don't have the gags so it's weird in a sense.
Although I liked weatheria wizards as a sole entry in the tournament I don't think it's fair to clump the Straw Hat fleet together, they're like 7 or so unique characters and the unpopular ones drag the really cool ones down and not to mention you still have the popular ones as separate entries, so they have twice the chance of getting further in a competition because they're in it twice. Just some thoughts on the tournament, I am well aware that tournaments of the past have gone clean as a whistle and have been very fun but somethings for me make it less enjoyable and that's only a personal thing, everyone else seems to be having a blast

Oh god, Sanji vs Jimbei? This tournament is determined to come up with every way possible to make me vote against Jimbei. I would have voted for him against any of the other six choices.:sad: For the other matches, fairly easy picks of Nami, Carrot, and Nekomamushi for me.

Including Ryuu is like including characters move sets, because that's essentially what he is a drawing made by Kanjuro. Yet Kanjuro's brilliant artistic mind gets his ass thrown out the tournament very early on, without him you don't have the gags so it's weird in a sense.

This character tournament is a tournament of memes and gags. A gag character winning this whole thing embodies what this tournament stands for. Yeah, it probably won't happen because 'some' people take this tournament more seriously than they should, but meh.

(Oh and last I checked it's called called OP Character Tournament, not a Characters Tournament)
