Adapts the famous light novel, Romance of the Three Kingdom, looks at the Late Eastern Han dynasty - Three Kingdom era. I've seen Deadwood, Rome, Band of Brothers and various other Asian historical series, though Three kingdom is by far my favourite historical drama series.

For the most part, yes. It starts after the Yellow Turban rebellion instead of before and it does omit a few things, or expands upon them, but I would say the overall plot is faithful.
Also, Chen Jianbin as Cao Cao is the definite star here.
I don't know anything about Three Kingdom in any way so what you are saying is literally flying over my head lol. But it's good to hear that it's faithful adaptation since i can't read Chinese and there aren't that many series that ultimately become a faithful adaptation or so from what i have heard.
In case you were wondering… Cao Cao is my current avatar.
Also, for those interested, the team who made this also made a series about the conflict between the Chu and Han states at the collapse of the Qin Dynasty, that's also quite good, but it seems that there's no concrete subs for that series as there is for TK. A pity.

I've heard many bad things about that series. Also Jiang Hu are subbing 'All men are brother's series, another adaptation of one of the four famous novels.

Official published translations. Just do a search on Amazon for "three Kingdoms" and it should pop up immediately. It'll be a three or four volumes set depending. There's at least three different translations, one of which was just done in 2014… I have no idea what the quality of the new one is.
It's a bit of a niche thing, a library not having it isn't surprising.

All of my knowledge of the 3 Kingdoms does indeed come from the Dynasty Warriors and Warriors Orochi game series which maybe definitely isn't accurate but definitely interesting.
I need a new series to watch so I'll give this a go.
Dynasty Warriors is actually pretty accurate, albeit incomplete, as far as the main characters and major campaigns go, if you actually read all the supplemental material they provide. Well, except for all the women on the battlefield, obviously.
Orochi… not so much.

I just meant they got the design on Orochi's armor wrong.
The relationship between Liu Bei and CAO CAO is quite similar to the one that Yang and Reinhard had from Legend of the Galactic Heroes. The deep respect and anger both characters had at the same time, wouldn't be surprised if Tanaka was influenced by the historical novel (he did base his series on historical moments throughout the series). I did wish we spent more time on Sun Ce and Yuan Shao (the fatuous lord) however for example.
