Don't know why there's such a row over Sanji losing to his old man. Clearly this is setting the stage for "round two" where he beats his dads ass and possibly the most of his immediate family. Sanji wasn't even "defeated" that badly. Just stunned long enough for Judge to be declared the victor and have the cuffs slapped on him. Not to mentioned Judge's shitheel tactic of impaling his own soldier just to beat Sanji in a duel. I don't blame Sanji for letting his guard down after witnessing such an act.
On the bright side, this chapter reveals that Sanji defeated Yonji
Also this Germa portion of the arc seems to be building on the themes of the Baratie/Krieg arc and I don't think that is coincidence. Krieg was all about touting technology as the answer to the dangers of the Grand Line and overcoming opponents, being a mediocre fighter without all his armour, trickery, and gizmos. In addition, his theme (and name) evoked a dream of war and conquest over the seas of the Grand Line. Judge and Germa 66 is essentially a successful version of Krieg. Also, needless to say, we are revisiting what makes Sanji Sanji and his father/family issues. Here we learn that Sanji was already
Now here is something I was not initially on board with. The Baratie arc established that Sanji fed people presumably because his experience as a castaway on a barren rock gave him a personal understanding of what it meant to go hungry and potentially starve to death, to the point where he was even willing to feed the notorious Don Krieg. This is in addition to the sequence where Sanji is shown wasting food. Yet in this chapter, Sanji was already predisposed to feed the lower classes.
However, I choose to read it as Sanji simply not identifying himself as a royal and seeing the lower classes deserving of eating their fine cuisine. Possibly because he was seen as a black sheep by the rest of his family and already started to lose respect for their selective codes of conduct.
