Bumping this thread again after thinking a bit more about the revelations of chapter 1,060 as I would like to ask a question to you guys. For this question I would hope you guys could bear with me and just go with the premise I will describe below. You don't have to agree with the premise. But I'm curious what possible answers you guys could come up with if you would go with it, as I myself lack the creativity to think of anything else than what you'll read below.
I believe that Oda chose to omit introducing Luffy's actual dream as early as chapter 1 because it would completely change the readers expectations on a new series that's just about to start. I'll use the only example I can think of to explain this. Let's say Luffy's dream is to go to the moon/to outer space. If you introduce this as Luffy's dream in chapter 1 then the readers would immediately have a completely different set of expecations from this story. They might think that the combination between a pirate adventure in something that resembles colonial times and space travel would be an interesting premise. They might think that space travel will play a much bigger role. No matter how they feel, going to space (or to the moon) will be a integral part of approaching the story.
So if Oda tells the story as he told it in reality, then he would risk alienating a couple of fans (or many) along the road as they would feel that the promise of space travel never ever reflects in the actual story. So to avoid that Oda could have done two things: 1) include more aspects about space travel and thus create a completely different world form the one we know or 2) write the story as we come to know it and keep space travel a secret until it's proper time to reveal it.
So to summerize, the premise is something Oda had to keep a secret for the sake of moving the expectations in the direction he desires. Which leaves me what I want to ask you guys.
What other possible scenarios besides space travel could be a dream that you wouldn't want to reveal in chapter 1 to temper expectations? I can just think of space travel so I'm curious to hear your guys' takes.
For the record, within this premise I don't think a big party or making everyone a pirate works as I don't think this would have changed the trajectory of expectations much if that was revealed in chapter 1. So what else is there?
