Zoro's eye will be the main topic during the Goldenweek?
There isn't really much to say beyond what we already did. But changing topics, Brownbeard and Bon Clay might meet up, if that is important to the story, we shall see.

After the timeskip, everyone was expecting training flashbacks but now im pretty sure oda will save important ones until they intersect with the story (meeting the revos/vegapunk/mihawk) and even then keep them to a few pages. MAYBE showing something from the others when they use their ultimate technique or something.
and by the way, the crew probably knows about each others adventures during the timeskip (save for maybe luffy and zoro, because they usually dont care) since this chapter brook knew about Robins. Yes it was just a subtile hint, but it shows the crew talks even when not on panel
-
i think it's an injury inflected upon him by his teacher. probably at his request, like how he asked to be slashed in the barate arc.
He didn't ask to be slashed lol, what are you talking about.
Mihawk had defeated him and was going to lay the killing blow, and Zoro turned around to face him so that he wouldn't get any wounds on his back. No "cowards wounds".
Then Mihawk lays the finishing blow, everyone thinks Zoro is dead, but Mihawk spared him because he was interested in his potential. This has nothing whatsoever to do with what you're suggesting…which doesn't make sense.
Why would Zoro ask to be slashed, let alone blinded in one eye.--- Update From New Post Merge ---

Yeah this seems true. One of the actually bizarre things about One Piece is that we the audience often feel like we're on the same page as most of the main cast (Robin excepted), knowing most of the same stuff as them. Especially Luffy we feel we know, like we can melt into him and be him.
But then we keep getting these reminders that this isn't the case. Luffy will whip out something like "Oh yeah Garp's my grandpa".

Ah! Kidd has bitten the dust. Wonderful, Kaidou is making accomplishments very fast.
Gomu Gomu no Random Curry a la carté, that's the final strike to Mama.

@Shobu:
Ah! Kidd has bitten the dust.
Either you don't know what this phrase means, or you're insane.
-
@Monkey:
Either you don't know what this phrase means, or you're insane.
Or you love Kidd so much.
Btw, came to realize Kaidou has the same tatoo as Sakazuki, and in the same place.

Someone who has bitten the dust is dead.
Their tattoos aren't even remotely similar. Kaido has stylized dragon scales and Sakazuki has flowers over some tribal crap.
-
The cover is so awesome

Have you come to realize that thinking Kidd is dead is absolutely dumb as hell?

I don't know where he is from, but in french "mordre la poussière" or "to bite the dust" doesn't necessarily implies death. It can simply mean utter defeat.
-
It’s funny how the same expression can have different meanings depending on the language

Compare to the previous 2, not that much

one piece is on a break in this week, right?

@zeff:
one piece is on a break in this week, right?
technically speaking is JUMP, the outcome is the same, no chapter this week

Prediction: everyone's gets fat when they're on Whole Cake Island.

It's weird how Kidd only ended up where he did because Kaido is so casually suicidal.
Like he just happend to stand next to his randomly chosen suicide spot.
Am I the only person who doesn't think that was a coincidence? To me, its blatantly obvious Apoo betrayed them.
-

More likely he just surrendered after Kaido beat the living crap of Kidd

If BM becomes sort of on their side, and we finally get Sanji's BG, then how is this a waste of time?
I mean it would be a wasted opportunity.
The Luffy - Big Mom rivalry has been brewing for a while now and only keeps building as even more incidents take place that involve both their crews.
For that to flatly end with no actual battle between the two captains would be disappointing IMO.
Now, a Luffy vs. BM war would be a waste of time, considering that the plot is on an express train to a Luffy vs. BB vs. WG war. The Wano arc alone would probably be longer than Dressrosa.
By that logic, the whole plotline going on right now with Kaido/Wano is a waste of time?
Before we need to get to the final war of the series, Luffy needs to have taken on, and beaten, some of the real big guns.
He needs to evolve and grow to the point where he himself is one of the major players.
Basically, I feel like Luffy needs to beat at least one of the yonko one on one before the real final battles take place ie Luffy Vs. Blackbeard, Luffy Vs. Blackbeard Vs. WG etc
Kaido's coming first and it seems too soon for Luffy to beat him 1 on 1, while Blackbeard is marked for further down the road and Shanks is an ally.
That leaves Big Mom, who Luffy has already built a rivalry with, as the prime candidate to elevate Luffy's status from chaotic troublemaker to big timer.
-

All of that build up seems to have led only to the tea party. FI introduced us to BM, Pekoms (who is now leading them to the tea party), Tamago, and the fact that she's holding a tea party.
Then in Dressrosa BM chasing down the strawhats gave us something to do with Caesar, and separated the swirlyhats from the rest of the crew, which led to Sanji and Caesar being taken, which in turn leads Luffy to the tea party.
I hope we can agree that Luffy won't take down BM in this arc. But then, what's left? this will use all the build up we had for BM, Sanji's plot-line will be resolved, Luffy will meet BM but won't take her down. Luffy will fight her later only if we later get build up for her as an enemy. Meet people who have suffered by her hand. But that will be after Luffy already clashed with her, and after we got the arc with her, in her territory, when we're supposed to have build up for the great war. No, because Luffy gets tons of allies on the way, and taking him down makes him one of the top players in the sea.

Defeating Kaido alone will make Luffy a big timer. Even though he'll get help in the fight against him, it will probably all come down to Luffy, just like in Dressrosa.
We're already getting build up for Luffy vs. BB with Marco getting into the scene.
We don't need Luffy soloing a yonko to fight BB. Yes, BB seems strong, but even he didn't do anything like that so far. And when it comes down to it, he WILL seem stronger than Luffy. All right, let's see how close Mangastream vs. VIZ is for this week!
- VIZ name for the chapter: "Playing Pirates"
- I saw some confusion about Nami's line on the bottom right panel of the first page, where she says "Why is it that all of your siblings are crazy, dangerous people?!" with some wondering if it should have said "family members" instead of "siblings" and Dragon was meant to be included there. Actually, she says "What kind of trio of siblings are you?!"
- Also, Nami's top bubble in the next panel (responding to Luffy's talk about Dragon) is kind of funny. Instead of "Huh? Of course!" she says "Like…yeah?" Haha, that sounds kinda weird.
- Mangastream pg 6: Brook saying "the picture doesn't do his presence justice" implies that he may have met Dragon, but it's really not as much of an implication in VIZ. He just says "Well, a picture's not the same as seeing someone in real life."
- If it wasn't already obvious, the "You need to help, too!" "I'm half-dead!" is indeed between someone (probably Nami) and Pekoms, since he actually gives his signature roar in there.
- Quite a bit of Bariete's dialogue with Wanda was confusing in Mangastream (page 10). Here's VIZ's version: "I ape-ologize, Wanda! Maybe I could have told someone and stopped her, but Carrot had already packed up her stuff, and…" Wanda cuts him off, and after she points out the bribe: "B-but Carrot didn't want to betray you, Wanda!"
- It looks like Kaido has his own "signature laugh" that wasn't included in MS: "Worororo".
- His dialogue when talking about Luffy and Law: "Straw Hat Luffy! Trafalgar Law! I know what they call your generation! Little whelps proud of wiping out mere Warlords of the Sea, but you must realize that you've messed with my business! Worororo…hey, I bet you [Kid] can warn those idiots in your generation! 'Run away while you can. All we were doing was playing pirates!'"
- The entire conversation between Sanji/Tamago/Vito says basically the same thing in both versions, just worded a little differently. Mangastream is still using "Purin", but VIZ uses "Pudding".

I've always thought that Mom will end up more a negotiation than a fight. The important thing for Luffy is that she bows to him and I can see that happening because it's in her better interests. Now that we know the Vinsmokes have political clout maybe it will involve fighting them.
For levelling fights he still has Weevil and whatever waits in Wano. Kaido killed Momo's parents so he's crossed that line from someone who can be negotiated with to someone who must be beaten down.

Good stuff, I got my subscription for VIZ to have the HxH and current OP chapters, It is nice to see the difference between the two. I think I'll try and wait for the "official" translation more often before posting, especially after the whole Brook-Dragon meeting went out of the window. I wonder how often we miss or understand things wrong because of it. I want to get my favorite series in Japanese and hopefully one day learn the language. (One Piece, Rurouni Kenshin, Hunter x Hunter, Dragonball, Monster, Kurozuka are some of them).

Does anyone else think that Jack is calling on fish to help him out of the water? That is the first thing I thought about when we see that he is a Fishman. Just like when Jinbei summoned those whale sharks and the end of Impel Down.

It's possible, but Crocodile did comment on how Jinbei is unique in that regard since communicating with fishes is something usually only merfolk are capable of.
-
Good point. I forgot and assumed it was all fishmen and not just merfolk. I have no basis for this idea but i think he has the same ability as Jinbei.
Who else could he possibly be communicating with that wouldn't seem too farfetched for one piece?

They appear to be thought bubbles so I think Jack is just thinking to himself.
Sorta like how you're at a restaurant and your date is late and you start thinking to yourself like 'Come on, why isn't she here yet? Hurry up already', except with less anxiety and more contempt. -

I thought he was thinking that because he was waiting on a crew member he should of been saved by then if you could call a shark or fish to help him maybe he is not 100% fishman so he cannot do it lol.

Sure, no problem! I actually got the subscription a few months ago on recommendation from other members here, and it's definitely worth it. Seeing comments that some people can't get it based on where they live, though, is what gave me the idea to start doing this. I think it's a huge shame, because it's a digital subscription, so it sucks that not everybody who has Internet can get it. I'm too addicted to One Piece to wait for the VIZ version every week (there's no way I can resist reading the scanlations when they come out four days earlier, even if they're not as good), but I definitely do look forward to it every Monday. Stephen does a great job with it.
I think Mangastream changed to Pudding, actually. Btw, I have to mention that I loooove how Stephen translated Tamago's speech quirk! "That is an outpost of le Big Mom pirates", "Mama appreciates your " 'qualités' " or whatever he wrote. Hilarious!
It's weird, cuz on the day it came out, MS used "Purin" and "Pudding" once each on the page, but when I was looking at it again today, it said "Purin" both times. Haha, I agree, I like the way Stephen does stuff like that. Gives Tamago an obvious French accent, changes Bariete's "de gosaru" to monkey-related puns…it works pretty well.
So much for Brook meeting Dragon hype.
Wonder if he really plans to release Kid to use as a message/warning or are his defeat and current condition supposed to be the message itself.
Yeah, I feel like things like that from MS have caused way too many cases of false hype. Like Nami's "magic wand" a couple of weeks ago, too.
I'm terms of Kid, I assumed it was the latter, and he was saying it sarcastically, but I guess the former is possible. Don't see why he'd release him, though, or if Kid is in any condition to go anywhere even if he did. Still wanna know where Killer went, and why he's not with his captain.

Thank you Bellisario. Can you also let us know about the Blackbeard-CP0 thing this chapter?
-
@'T€:
@$;3633451']Thank you Bellisario. Can you also let us know about the Blackbeard-CP0 thing this chapter?
Sure, no problem. The top panel of the page where CP is mentioned, Nami says "By the time the Navy and Cipher Pol arrived, the Blackbeard Pirates had already leveled the settlement to the ground." On the last panel on that same page, Pedro's lines are "It says Blackbeard clashed briefly with Cipher Pol briefly before fleeing. But there was no info about fatalities in the article." It never actually says which Cipher Pol unit was fighting the Blackbeard Pirates. CP-Aegis 0 seems like the logical guess, but it's technically not confirmed.

Thanks again Bellisario.

Shanks could have cut his arm off it would make sense why he wanted to go after Shanks due to big mom would have said something about him if she had done it.
Someone should look up if Woro Woro means anything
we might have kaido's devil fruitbetter off asking someone to translate the text from the japanese raw it might not have been translated correctly and then get them to look up the original non translated text to see what it means.
-
Kidd is like Luffy. First he takes down Big mom's ships, then he goes after SHanks and later he gets in a fight with kaidou. About his lost arm, it looks brutal based on scars, it wasn't a clean sword cut, it's like something Kenpachi would do lol. Maybe Blackbeard did it, or big mom, or even Kaidou in a previous battle.

The Tea Party seems like an important plot point yeah, but I doubt introducing an island destroying yonko, having her clash heads with Luffy and him declaring war on her is of no significance aside from leading us there.
I hope we can agree that Luffy won't take down BM in this arc.
Yeah, I think that's a given.
But then, what's left? this will use all the build up we had for BM, Sanji's plot-line will be resolved, Luffy will meet BM but won't take her down. Luffy will fight her later only if we later get build up for her as an enemy.
We've already had quite a lot of build for her as an enemy.
Luffy crashing her party and ruining her plan with the Vinsmokes is only going to exacerbate an already febrile situation.
Meet people who have suffered by her hand. But that will be after Luffy already clashed with her, and after we got the arc with her, in her territory, when we're supposed to have build up for the great war. Just seems unlikely to me.
…because characters never appear in multiple arcs in One Piece?
Just because we'll see Big Mom and she'll interact with Luffy most likely, does not mean that her role in the story has nowhere else to go.
No, because Luffy gets tons of allies on the way, and taking him down makes him one of the top players in the sea.
Defeating Kaido alone will make Luffy a big timer. Even though he'll get help in the fight against him, it will probably all come down to Luffy, just like in Dressrosa.
Hmm, I dunno.
With Kidd being reintroduced as an enemy of Kaido, Apoo seemingly joining up with him and Hawkins no where to be seen, that leaves a pretty specific scenario in my mind.
The 3 captains who fought side by side on Saboady, who have been outlined as the real standouts of their generation, Luffy, Law and Kidd, taking down Kaido together.
We're already getting build up for Luffy vs. BB with Marco getting into the scene.
We've been getting build up for Luffy Vs. BB for about a decade.
We don't need Luffy soloing a yonko to fight BB.
I feel like we'd be missing a step if he didn't tbh.
Yes, BB seems strong, but even he didn't do anything like that so far.
He's done a lot of impressive shit, seemingly always off-panel though lol.
This is where the generally accepted theory of Blackbeard killing Shanks comes into play though.
And when it comes down to it, he WILL seem stronger than Luffy.
That's how Oda rolls- he hypes an antagonist to make him seem stronger than Luffy, and then makes Luffy exceed his limits and win.
That can still be the case even if Luffy beats Big Mom one on one.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I've always thought that Mom will end up more a negotiation than a fight. The important thing for Luffy is that she bows to him and I can see that happening because it's in her better interests.
She destroys islands if people don't bring her candy…does she seem like someone who will back down to an upstart like Luffy, regardless of the circumstances?
Now that we know the Vinsmokes have political clout maybe it will involve fighting them.
Yeah, I'd agree that a battle with the Vinsmokes/Germa 66 is on the cards.
For levelling fights he still has Weevil and whatever waits in Wano. Kaido killed Momo's parents so he's crossed that line from someone who can be negotiated with to someone who must be beaten down.
Weevil seems strong yeah, but I don't think he qualifies as an opponent that will take Luffy to that top level, personally.

I'm not sure which countries can get it (I think it said "North America" on the site), but here's the page to subscribe so you can check and see. http://shonenjump.viz.com/signup
XD I can not even access that page. I see thats a big clear NO for me :(

How do you subscribe to VIZ? is it possible outside of the US?

Android device, credit card, amazon us account.
If you have all three then you can without VPN.
If you download and install the viz app through the amazon marketplace you can ignore region restrictions, but you have to pay through amazon. And I think that it only works for the WSJ, not even the hxh back issues show up.

and by the way, the crew probably knows about each others adventures during the timeskip (save for maybe luffy and zoro, because they usually dont care) since this chapter brook knew about Robins. Yes it was just a subtile hint, but it shows the crew talks even when not on panel
