One Piece Episode 738 Preview
-
Pretty good episode, though I found the scene transitions a little jarring. What really amazed me though was the really, really, really, short recap.
-
First episode in years that ive legitimately enjoyed
-
Well that was quality filler. I haven't enjoyed an episode of One Piece for a while, but this one did it for me.
-

I thinl that was the most shocking thing in the seried, holy crap was that short.
-
Dragon and his freaking wind is in this episode.
-
Not quite as good as I was hoping, but a good mostly filler ep. The art was heavily variable from good to poor, but unfortunately the animation wasn't quite up there to match, aside from a few key moments (i.e. Sabo's rescue) so his more impressive moments were meh.
Most enjoyable parts were Ivankov, Hack losing his pants, and the the origin of…the pipe! However, I'm a bit confused as to who Sabo learned his armament haki from, other than possibly Dragon. No one else there is known to be able to use it. In addition, it's unfortunate that Kuma had to remain silent in this one, seemingly because his VA wasn't available.
Also, it's a bit ambiguous, but I think Sabo killed everyone in that enemy base he blew up. A hint at his revenge-fueled regret once he regains his memory. Also watching this makes me wonder how much of a relationship Dragon actually has with Luffy given that at this point Sabo is more of a son to him than Luffy is.
Next episode looks like it may easily be the better of the two. Look forward to it.
-
What an odd episode. The filler was great for the most part but good god did the manga material drag. I think it was a combination of slow, spaced-out line reading and a very, very subdued score. Very little momentum in the scenes of the first half.
Liked most of the filler, though in that battle Sabo seemed like he was the star of a very different, pretty generic anime. Really wish we had seen him learning and mastering Haki.
By my count the recap was a mere 16 seconds long.
-
!
That brat looks like Stelly, lol. -
Dragon picks up children, teaches them the way of war and indoctrinates his believe on them. Okay…
Sounds like an actual real life revolutionary army...
-
For a moment I thought I saw Stelly in this episode, but I realized it was a younger Koala. Also Sabo can use teleport.
-
! Anyone know if Sanji and co, Kaidou are shown in this episdoe or 736? Or not yet?
-
^Spoiler that shit! There are anime watchers here.
-
Well either he held back or Hack was really potayed as loser compared to even kid Sabo.
Further more it is really amazing that he had haki to this level with 17 years

First off, spoilers.
! Not yet. Should be in episode 739.

Yeah, that's the part that kinda annoyed me in this ep. So I'll take it that Hack held back…
-
Sabo was far more advanced at 17 than either of his brothers and once he masters Mera Mera I think Akainu and Blackbeard need to watch out.
So Dragon wind scenes all but confirm he has the wind power and can actually fly, it's fitting too since his army are bringing the winds of change with what they're trying to ultimately accomplish. I love, also, that Sabo uses moves named after his teacher (Dragon) that Dragon's Breath move is so overpowered the pressure he generates with his claws is so immense that it cracks the floor and air bursts out.

Nice episode a little dragged but we get to see some new content. The wind around Dragon all but confirms that he has Wind Wind fruit logia they cant make it any more. obvious.

Yes. Except for the fact it doesn't.

can you stop being rude to people ?
-
Oda codirected but people are still calling this mostly filler? Eh…
-
That actually went way better than I thought it would, in-canon "filler" like this is the best kind of "filler".

The wind is even shown in manga and if we go as far back as his introduction there's wind, it could be weather in the broader sense but most things point to wind, if (and I said if kage kage) it's true that would be one of the strongest powers.
We've never see Dragon fight so the scene where he tabs Sab on the back that knocks him is pretty hype!

It doesn't. But on to something else, has the anime ever revealed something that wasn't confirmed yet in the manga?
And I'm not talking about shitty filler scenes, but something that was later confirmed Canon in the manga?
Edit: in response to long John silvers Rayleigh "people would than proceed to call Oda an idiot, and tell him how his manga and anime should be. That's just how some fans are. "

It's funny how they alterned the pre and post timeskip color palettes. We even saw Hack, a character who was presented post timeskip, with a better looking colors (IMO).

I think he's referencing the Jaya scene where Rockstar tried to meet with Whitebeard. Both in the anime and manga you can see Jozu and Marco hanging around in the background with all the other mook pirates with absolutely no fanfare or anything.

Gotcha. Though at the time I don't think Oda had plans for them either. But I guess it answers my question.

@sanji''s_dad:
they let him say the same words that he said in the manga about staying away from shanks if you cannot handle his willpower/haki though that lets people know that he is not trash.
That was not his first appearance.

He has more of a weather/storm paramecia from what we have seen from him in logue town since he can use lightning (saved luffy from being executed with it and make it rain and control the wind which was blowing in the direction of reverse mountain to allow them to get there faster.
Doflamingo is a paramecia with a string fruit and he can use to travel around as well.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
That was not his first appearance.
It was so long ago that i forgot the other one thanks,

I liked that episode.
-
Another good episode! I liked the expansion of the manga scenes (like Cavendish actually getting wrapped up with the chain and the moment at Kyros's hour before like half the gang falls asleep), and unless any of the Sabo/RA filler gets contradicted later, I'm headcanoning it. Good stuff.
-
You can imagine my surprise when I skip ahead to five minutes in like usual and it's two minutes after the titlecard already hehe!
Not a bad episode overall. The filler was really well done, except for the scene of Sabo entering the fortress which seemed just a little too over the top. Ivankov stole the show as always. I LOVED the scene where Barty wrapped Cabbage in chains before sleeping, that was perfect.
However, the art did seem a bit lacking, especially in the present-day scenes. Dragon always seemed to be drawn weirdly. Also, I'm still trying to wrap my head around how Kyros' house survived the Birdcage.

@Long:
Oda codirected but people are still calling this mostly filler? Eh…
Well technically his role was actually that of supervisor, which generally speaking is an advisory role–a common one for mangaka where their input is sought (to what extent, itvaries). At any rate, it's a bit more of a grey area simply because the specifics shown were never outright confirmed as actually happening in manga continuity (yet). So it can't exactly be considered canon, but you're right is that it isn't particularly filler either given that it has more legitimacy than the vast majority of "extra" anime content. The term "filler" can be pretty loose and can oft be used as something that is simply non-canon.
It doesn't. But on to something else, has the anime ever revealed something that wasn't confirmed yet in the manga?

Nothing really. If it does (and it's usually something innocuous) it's pretty much an accident. That is except showing colors of certain characters not yet revealed by Oda via volume posters or Color Walks.
This Sabo flashback might be the first that does it to some extent, provided it is expanded upon in the future. The skeleton of the flashback has already been confirmed via SBS in v80, similar to the sequence in Loguetown where Usopp buys the sniper goggles, the latter going a step further with Oda actually reprinting a storyboard of this planned sequence.
Sabo SBS below. Not really a spoiler given that this episode covered everything mentioned, but just in case.
! D: When Koala fell around Robin's neck , I came to like her (^ ͜ ^)/. So exactly under what circumstances did Koala, Hack, and Sabo meet?
P.N. One Piece Mania
! O: Hm, many people want to know about the life of these three. Once I start to tell you there'll be no end.
Firstly, there is Sabo who was rescued by Dragon when he was around 10 years old. He then meets the Revolutionary Army and learns about things happening in the world, and their (Revolutionary Army) thoughts on it. Finally, he sympathizes with them.
That's when he meets Hack who, as a master in Fishman Karate, teaches martial arts to children without prospects that are raised by the army. However, Sabo carries no memories. But he isn't a boy anymore on a level such of someone who can still be taught something. Taken under Dragon's wing he shows great skills and grows rapidly.
That's when Sabo is 13 years old. A 14 year old girl called Koala is brought along by Hack and joins the Revolutionary Army. (Skipping some details) She takes Fishman Karate lessons under Hack and even becomes Master Assistant. The obliging Hack and Koala are, together with Sabo, increasingly assigned to missions as a team due to their good affinity.
Yes, the order of their encounter has this kind of vibe.
! The story is broached in the anime, but I think there is not enough room to tell everything. Please figure it yourself.
As you can see some details, such as where Sabo got his pipe, at what age he could use haki, Inazuma's role as a professor of sorts to Revolutionaries, etc. is still unconfirmed via manga canon so if it were later confirmed at some point and was in line with how the anime depicted it (more or less) it would be (for the most part) unprecedented. Note that he does give special mention to these anime episodes in question, which is significant to say the least.Well either he held back or Hack was really potayed as loser compared to even kid Sabo.
The SBS indicates that Hack has a specific role in training youths, so him holding back seems pretty accurate. That an a boy with as much existent combat experience as Sabo probably has caught him off guard more than once. Koala, it seems, is more or the average pupil. At least initially considering how she eventually becomes her master pupil, also indicating that Sabo stuck to and developed his own fighting style outside of what Hack could teach him.
-
Well, you can't get much better than this episode for manga only readers!
@Kaido:
Also, I'm still trying to wrap my head around how Kyros' house survived the Birdcage.
Me too :wassat:
-
Why is it so hard to get Kuma's size down? One scene he's 9 feet tall besides Dragon. The next scene he's over 3 stories tall.
-
How old was Koala when she joined the Revolutionary ?
Tiger died to bring her home. I doubt that she left right away. -

Tiger died to bring her home. I doubt that she left right away. Why wouldn't she leave right away if she discovered the scumbags in her village betrayed and caused the death of her rescuer, Tiger?

@Mr.:
Nothing really. If it does (and it's usually something innocuous) it's pretty much an accident. That is except showing colors of certain characters not yet revealed by Oda via volume posters or Color Walks.
I remember, for instance, names of certain Whitebeard allies being revealed in the anime before databooks did it, since it seems Oda passes on this kind of information to the staff among his notes.
It's obvious from interviews that they do have privileged information (like, say, when Oda told the anime staff no one should call Rayleigh "captain" in that early Buggy/Shanks flashback), but obviously the anime can't just go ahead and reveal something major…well, if we don't count the post-TS character designs we saw in movies first.
-
@Kaido:
Also, I'm still trying to wrap my head around how Kyros' house survived the Birdcage.
His house is that small lol.
-
Why wouldn't she leave right away if she discovered the scumbags in her village betrayed and caused the death of her rescuer, Tiger?
Well. They're not total scumbags, if they didn't tell the marines they would have taken Koala back into slavery. It was a catch-22.
Though I wouldn't be surprised if that was the reason she left.
-
Finally got around to watching the episode. The flashback was good, the new music was good, and despite the moments of Deguchi-ness here and there the art/animation was good, so all around it was a good episode, but I couldn't help but be distracted by the continuity error of Baltigo being in the Revolutionaries' possession roughly a decade ago when Nami was reading an article about it falling to them at the start of the Loguetown arc!
