In my country the stopped officially translating it after the 4th volume, ugh.
But it's great to see that One Piece is doing great in countries other than Japan! It deserves it.

Freedomland - pretty well, right? Someone confirm, the sales related threads scare me.

That's awesome! One Piece surely deserves it! The manga sells well in my country , we even have 3 databooks translated in portuguese, but I don't think it sells more than Naruto or other more popular manga.Oh, and One Piece is also published by Panini here , we are in volume 60.

I think I've only ever seen OP in english, here in Portugal, never in portuguese! :wassat: Good to know it does kind of well in Brazil!

He is Brazilian, so PT-BR I assume that is why we don't get them, I've seen it in French and English in multiple places here.

Unfortunately the level of language is so colloquial that some times it pains me to read it. And the paper quality is horrible. They could have done a much better work without much trouble. And other minor things too.

Another U.S. fan here. I think it's decent, though I don't have numbers. Manga sales in general are nowhere near as good outside of Japan as they are there, but I think One Piece is one of the better-selling ones here, though Naruto's more popular. An explanation I read for that somewhere is that, since manga/anime has a Japanese origin, a lot of Western manga readers/anime watchers are interested in Japanese concepts such as ninja (Naruto) or Shinigami (Bleach), whereas the U.S. has a lot more pirate-related franchises and stories than Japan. I think the way I heard it phrased is that One Piece is a huge cash cow franchise in Japan (it's seriously everywhere), but more of a cult classic among manga fans here (and maybe other places, too). We're published up through Volume 77 here, with 78 coming out in May. I'm not sure if we have any of the databooks, though; at the very least, I've never seen them in any of the bookstores I've been to.

Since people are mentioning the anime: Funimation gives us (and I think several other countries) an officially subtitled version of the original anime within an hour-ish after it airs in Japan, but they also have an English dub, which is widely considered to be very good. It's currently near the end of the Impel Down arc, I believe (haven't gotten caught up with it yet), or maybe it's started Marineford by now. They've also adapted "Strong World" and "Film Z". Thank goodness Funimation has it now, because our first attempt at a dub was from 4Kids, which was apparently (I never saw it) so unbelievably terrible that it severely damaged the franchise in the U.S. for years, and it's only recently (mostly) recovered thanks to Funimation and gained a solid foothold here.

Well, if One Piece is their best selling manga, I don't see a reason to not publish the databooks, keep asking for them to publish and maybe they'll do it :)

In Indonesia, One Piece is number 3 after detective conan (case closed) and naruto. We have 1 databook (blue) translated into bahasa, hope they will translated them all. I don't think one piece will be number 1, conan and naruto very popular here..

Comics? yeah probably not much in Portuguese besides stories for little kids or something, actual books are usually translated, but usually if its in English/French it is also available on the native language, frankly I'm so used to read in English that I'm not sure I would use Portuguese.

Yeah, most of the media here, unless they're intended for children, are left untranslated (as long as it's English). Movies and TV shows are subtitled, never dubbed. I really like it like that. If we're importing culture, at least we import it in all its original glory. As long as it's American, of course (nobody would read a japanese comic untranslated). 😆 To be honest with you, things sound really lame in portuguese, especially in fantasy settings. Like translating Game of Thrones, for example. Ugh, it sounds awful.

For what I've seen, here in Portugal everything is translated soon or later, but it normally takes some time. Though before that we don't have problems in importing books in English and French, French being specially for manga and other kinds of comics/banda desenhada.
Going to a big bookstore like Fnac, is easy to find a English and Portuguese version of a book, Manga is a little harder to find the Portuguese version, last time I went there majority of manga were in French, some in English, and even less in Portuguese. Though I found(and bought) Astro Boy volumes in Portuguese.
I believe that in smaller bookstores is easier to find the Portuguese translation and harder the others.

Basically here in Portugal we're used to a mix of Portuguese, English and French offer in Books and Comics. In TV is similar, but with subs vs dubs.
