Ah. So we will hear him and get his VA info?
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...

I still can't believe we've made it to the timeskip. It's been a long journey for the Funi dub and the road ahead is going to be even longer.
-
Yeah. I mean, I know we've all seen the movies, but it's still going to take some getting used to seeing the post timeskip characters with English voices coming out of their mouths.
-
When Chris Sabat was talking about doing Fake Sanji at SakuraCon, he mentioned that Mike casted and directed him as Fake Sanji meaning that Mike is back to directing the series starting with Season 9 as expected which is awesome
Source: https://twitter.com/FerquinRoot/status/853005500052496385We probably won't be seeing Joel direct anything One Piece related for a whIle because he directed a good amount of Season 6, majority of Season 7, all of Season 8 and directed Film Z, Film Gold and Heart of Gold. He's probably wicked burnt out at this point so Mike coming back is good for him too
-
That… didn't really sound anything like 4Kids Sanji. Hopefully he just had trouble remembering it at the con.
I guess we can take that as confirmation that none of the other actors will be reprising their roles.
-
Yeah thats sounds more like an italian accent than brooklyn

That's my hope as well.

I certainly hope Mike is back directing also, but AFAIK, Mike has always been somewhat involved in the casting decisions, even when not directing.

Funimation July releases are out. There is no One Piece in July.
-
Wow its hard to being a One Piece english dub fan

Not really, we're getting Film Gold and Heart of Gold in May and then the start of Season 9 in June. We can wait two months after Voyage One for Voyage Two

In the Twitter video linked a few posts ago, Sabat talked about doing the Fake Sanji voice when Mike was directing him and about how he was surprised by it so he's definitely back to directing

There is usually two months gap between the voyages releases.
Why is this a surprise to you?

true but we are now going through a long drought, and it guess its taking its effect on me
-
So much for the idea of a speed-up.

So much for the idea of a speed-up.
Two months in a row is a pipe dream, if its not here in august that's annoying
Would the dub have any interest in not catching up monetary wise?
-
So much for the idea of a speed-up.
Yeah. This is my take on it, too.
Also, the Spanish dub is getting all of the movies now. I think we'll be the last dub to get them. …if we get them.
-
So much for the idea of a speed-up.
There would be no reason to catch up anyway. Than we'll have a real drought on our hands.
Plus it's not like we are ever going to get a simuldub. So we need a bit of a slowdown anyway.
-
As long as we don't have to wait a year or longer for a new set I'm fine waiting a couple months. Have patience people.
Also I'm sure the Sanji imitation is a bit better than that. Sabot was just winging it off the top of his head.
-

My ideal would be a speed up and then a simuldub. One episode per week would be the farthest thing from a drought; it's actually what I do anyways, so it'd be perfect. That's the ideal, anyways. I understand there are a few things that would make the simuldub difficult to produce.

Only a week or so away from the special and movie. Fingers crossed that they'll ship early.

Terrible news. Ed Blaylock has passed away. ANN just broke the news.

He was phenomenal as Sengoku, he will be forever missed. R.I.P Ed Blaylock
Sucks that both Cole Brown and Ed Blaylock are gone now
-
Shit that sucks…especially for the post timeskip role he had
I hope they can find someone with a similiar sounding voice
At least he's so infamous that people can probably imitate him pretty well
-
R.I.P. Ed Blaylock….
He did a great job for both King Bradley and Sengoku. And he be missed.
-
I was so sad to hear this. We lost two great voice actors at such young ages.
-
Quite the tragedy. Man, we've lost two of the best voice actors in One Piece. Blaylock had the most distinctive voice around, and he always found a unique way to deliver his lines. He'll be missed, and I can't imagine the replacement actor could even begin to fill his shoes.
-
Damn. It's gonna be hard to top his sengoku. May the family be able to get through this.
-
What I always liked about Blaylock was how well he managed to portray intensity while never losing his cool or going over-the-top about it. Especially in a medium like anime, it would be so easy for him to launch into overacting, or cartoonishness that could just destroy the mood of a scene but Ed Blaylock stayed firm and confident in his performance. And with a role like Wrath, that combination of stoic statiness and pure hateful fury made him absolutely terrifying. One line from him, and you just knew who was in charge. A class act, all around.
Whoever will be taking on the role of Sengoku after this will have a tough act to follow. He will be missed.

If possible, can anyone confirm if it's working?
The digital version of Film Gold seems to be up on Amazon (since 20th April at least). Doesn't have any info on the audio track but I'm guessing it's in English, since Funimation is listed as the studio. Also, there appears to a separate link for the JP version.

It's sad to see another excellent VA go. I feel that Ed and Cole both had such distinctive voices for their characters. Sengoku and Blackbeard were both among my favorite voices in the dub, so it's unfortunate to lose them both so closely together. Fortunately neither character appears anytime too soon, so there is plenty of time to find suitable replacements. RIP Ed Blaylock.

Full price for digital only? Bleh!

Games also have the same problem as well. It'll be awhile before people figure this shit out.

Not only that, but it appears each purchase is for either English or Japanese, not both. Am I wrong, vgmusic?

Well put. He did have this brilliant, quiet intensity. Also, it was just nice to hear someone who sounded so distinctly different from everyone else, not to mention that he was a phenomenal actor, too. Funimation lost two of their best actors. It's a real shame. They nailed every line and embodied their characters in a way I can't see their replacements doing.
…though, to be fair, I do remember not liking him as Sengoku at first because I had him ingrained in my mind as villainous King Bradley, and I couldn't imagine him voicing a generally good guy like Sengoku. Of course, I was dead wrong.

hahahaha im on episode 34 of fmab and when I first started I thought he was good because the voice of sengoku gave me a familiar touch lol
-
Oh man, so sad to see another really talented voice actor go, especially to the evil of cancer that hits so many of us. And man, I really, really liked his work as Sengoku too. RIP to him and thanks for awesome work. Sucks we lost two big roles/voice actors after the timeskip.
This is really ironic too because the original seiyuu for Sengoku also passed away and was replaced around this point in the Japanese version.
It's going to be really, really, really tough to replace Blackbeard and Sengoku in the future. Those are some BIG shoes to fill.
-
Hm. The films should be shipping by now. Guess we'll all be getting them late! Woohoo!
-

I ordered them with two day shipping on FUNi so I'm not expecting mine to ship til this weekend
-
Call me a grump, but I'm thinking $60 is too much to pay for two movies. I mean, I'll do it if it means getting more movies dubbed, but the prices seem just a little too high. Knock it down to $40.

I just researched this and you're right. Wow. Just…wow.

Noooo.
I LOVED his performance in FMA as King Bradley.

RightStuf lists Heart of Gold and Film Gold as being in stock.
-
Yes mine just shipped out today so everyone else should have theirs shipped soon if they got it from RightStuf.

Would FUNi probably ship them out today too?
-
Who the hell knows. I hope so.
-
I've never pre-ordered from FUNi before. How long before the actual release date do they typically ship it?
-
It isn't consistent. Every set is different. This will be my second time getting the set after release date, I think.
