It happened before with the Amazon thing, but I'll try not to get my hopes up too much.
Oh, no. It's highly unlikely. I was just kidding. We'll be lucky to get one, though I wish they'd release two. Or bigger box sets. Anything to catch up faster…

I just peeped that the Dragon Ball Z Kai Final Chapters sets include like 20+ episodes, i hope Funimation starts doing One Piece like that
I also peeped the original blue logo on the Heart of Gold packaging.
The image of the back of the Heart of Gold box has Dressrosa spelled "Dress Rosa", but the website description spells it "Dressrosa".
I really want all of those poker chips, but I know I can't order a bunch of copies just to get them.
I was hoping that Heart of Gold would be released in a set with another special or two, but hey, it's the first special FUNimation's releasing so I won't complain!
Regarding the voyages, I've said it before and I'll say it again. If FUNimation's taking a hiatus, which it seems they are, I'd rather they do it now of any time given that it's at the most fitting place to do so. I don't think it's time to start getting antsy yet, especially with the extra content we're getting.
The collection is up now too. Whitebeard gets the cover.
Happy with the covers for the gold films. Can't wait for the special, since I've already seen Film Gold twice and can't rewatch it with my girlfriend.
It's been a while since I watch heart of gold. Wasn't really any spoilers in it, right?
Just like with Film Gold there's a line about Luffy beating Doflamingo in the special as well.
So glad to have the TV special as well here. This gives me hope we could get 3D2Y in the future. I'd rather them not bother with Episode of Sabo right now as it makes sense to wait until around the time they're working on Dressrosa and already have those new characters cast.
This special is movie length. I assume all the movie length specials will be individually packaged, unfortunately.
But that line isn't really too spoilerific. Just so long as there's no Sabo or gear fourth or anything else significant, she'll be fine.
Odd that Dressrosa is spent incorrectly, and I do wish the sets were 20+, too. Not only because more is better, by also to help us catch up faster and get through the mediocre Fishmen Island arc.
Dress Rosa is spelt that way on the website too.
Told you they'd change the logo B-)

They left only Heart of Gold's logo alone and thats probably because there wasn't a textless version of when the logo shows up in the special or it was just too hard to do it and for all we know, it could be the yellow logo in the actual special. They will more than likely keep the yellow logo for Season 9 onward
they should of never changed the logo. i that they did it to differentiate from 4kids.
I noticed the same thing about DBZ Kai having 22 episodes a set. I wish they would do that for One Piece as well so we could catch up faster, but I'm not getting my hopes up since then there wouldn't be much reason for them to make the collections (unless they made those bigger too). I think the big reason Kai gets the special treatment is because it's content everyone has seen before and they're trying to justify the price tag, plus get it out the door quickly to star pushing Super DVDs.
Heart of Gold trailer:
The scenes in the trailer are cut pretty disjointedly, but I guess it gets the point across.
Have no idea who could be voicing Olga.
Couple of things…
- Looks like they're committed to the blue logo. I guess it was a big enough change when attached to the subtitle that it didn't screw with the 4Kids copyright? What's the status on that? Do they still own the rights to the logo?
Well 4Kids is basically dead so I don't think that will be a problem. They're currently under bankruptcy protection IIRC.
It was edited a little weirdly but they probably want to differentiate the trailer from the ones for the voyages. The dub sounds great though and I can't wait to hear the rest of it
why do you say 4kids own the blue logo.
Isn't that why they have to use the gold logo?
Also, here's the Film Gold Bluray trailer.
The gold logo was a copyright thing? I guess I never really thought about it, but that makes more sense than just changing it to be different from 4Kids I suppose.
I haven't seen the Heart of Gold trailer, since I haven't seen the special and want to go into it blind. But that trailer for Gold was extremely well made!
The Heart of Gold trailer features some actual One Piece music. Or did they simply capture the soundtrack with some of the scenes in lieu of a separate trailer soundtrack?
NO COPYRIGHT. they use the blue logo is used in the manga and video games. FUNI wanted to be different then 4KIDS.
Apparently someone is spreading a rumor that they're not going to dub the post timeskip stuff because of FUNi's simuldubs. Haha, yeah okay. Why would that even be remotely true when the brand managers described One Piece as a staple for FUNimation in an interview with OPP? They wouldn't even be dubbing Film Gold or Heart of Gold if that were the case. Whoever thinks of these rumors is really not intelligent

You just spread the rumor, man! Don't you understand how rumors work?
That's stupid anyways; don't we have proof that they're working throughout fishman island right now?

I was only saying how stupid it was and yes, there's proof as Mike has been working on One Piece since July according to a tweet from Choo's voice actor about him doing "funny noises" for it when recording for it and we know he's not doing Heart of Gold so yeah
Anyways, I'm personally excited to see the Fishman Island arc dubbed as I enjoyed it way more than most people did
I'll like it more if I marathon it a little. Just felt extra slow week to week. Some of the side characters are fun. Looking forward to Hody and Van Der Decken (was that his name?).
Personally the one dumb filler scene that the anime added was what killed it for me. But I've now since gotten over it. For the most part arc fatigue is what kills it, but that too can be solved with marathoning perhaps.

One filler scene killed the whole arc for you? Yikes. Which scene?

I was being a bit hyperbolic, but the scene in question I'm referring to is where the crew in fishman island are shown to be bullied by humans.
Which to me seems a bit silly, considering an explanation for the leaders motivation is already given.
! Arlongs bigotry being put on display for them as children, and various other fishman, doing the same
It just came off as unnecessary, and apologetic towards the arcs antagonist.
Edit: overall I liked the arc, any other complaint would be the pacing (which funny enough is the only time had bothered me in the anime.
Woah. There was an added scene of Hody and co getting beaten up by humans? But doesn't that change the entire theme of generational hatred? I thought the point of Hody was that he had no real reason to hate humans other than being told to hate them growing up? It was hate without cause or reason; but then getting beaten up by humans personally would give him a reason, thereby undermining the theme of the whole arc.
Man, its been a while since I read that arc week to week.
Nothing was shown, but implied. And it was completely unnecessary. As far as I know, the anime has never done something like this again.

I'm confused. A filler scene implied that they were beaten up by humans?
Basically, something of the sort. I'm not sure what episode it was though. Take my word for it you like.
Perhaps you can find a wiki entry on it, might be more preferable, instead of going through dozens of episodes just to see one small snippet.
Perhaps the author have the okay for such a scene, although that's just speculation.
Not only did Hody and his mates get beaten up in that scene but one of them was even kidnapped and the humans were going to sell him. So yeah, not quite the "nothing" it was supposed to be. It was a scene from episode 536

Considering that scene went against what Oda was clearly trying to accomplish with the character I seriously doubt that; just an example of the anime team making a poor decision.
Wow. I think I watched these episodes when they first came out, but I don't remember that scene at all. How infuriating. I'll have to skip over the scene when watching with my girlfriend. Episode 536. Noted. Thanks.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I assume they made that mistake because the manga chapter revealing Hody wasn't out yet? Or were they just so stupid that they didn't understand what was going on?

That's seeming very likely. Luckily that type of bull hasn't been pulled since.
Edit
I believe the arc was wrapping up in the manga just as the anime was beginning.

I don’t think so? I seem to recall the chapter with the “nothing” reveal being out for quite a number of months before that episode

Then they're shitheads, if that's the case.
I'm not sure how long an episode is typically completed before it airs, so that chapter may not have been out during the production of the episode. Still, that's kind of a major thing, and would have warranted that scene be replaced with something else.
On another note, I noticed that the box art for collection nineteen has Whitebeard's jolly roger in the background, which is interesting since every one up until this point has either had the straw hat flag or the government flag.
The chapter was out 4 months before that episode aired, and it takes at least 4 months for a single episode to be produced (starting from script writing). That means it probably slipped through because of the production time.

Collection 13 didn't have ether the Straw Hats or the government flags, it had the Marine flag.

I wasn’t entirely certain if something like this might have been the case, but I suppose it makes the most sense. So yeah, I guess it was possibly just poor timing.

Huh, so you're right. I could've sworn it had the World Government flag, guess my memory failed me this time.
Man, this thread really dies when the dub is on hiatus. Someone go argue with the dozen points I made off of a two minute video or something. Golly.
Well, if any kind of comment is welcome, let me tell you that I plan on buying some dvd-s (not all, because oh my god). I'm pretty satisfied with the dub (I even find myself preferring the English to the original Japanese), and it'd be nice to have some One Piece on my shelves.
I just hope the shipping isn't batshit-crazy expensive.
cannot wait to buy FILM GOLD on blue-ray. love STRONG WORLD and FILM ZED.

You could always pick up those hundred episode collections over at Amazon if they're still in stock. Then it would only be like two purchases. Haha.
I don't think those treasure chest collections were really any cheaper buying the 26 episode collections separately, but certainly worth getting if you don't already own them.
I've begun the arduous task of introducing my girlfriend to One Piece. I dug out my Season 1 DVDs, and we watched the first three episodes. She enjoyed it a lot. She likes Luffy the most so far, because he laughs at the same things she laughs at.
We'll hopefully start marathoning it soon. I've been itching to re-watch from the beginning again. We're watching the dub, BTW.
