Better than it used to be. It’s not amazing, but it’s doable; it isn’t crashing or anything for me on a Sony TV. I’ll pay better attention tonight and get back to you with better detail.

Crunchyroll app on the fire tv works pretty well for me. The only problem I have with the app is that when I try to scrolled down or up when I try to get an on old episodes of Detective Conan or old episodes of One Piece the app would crash. Also I wished they fixed it already, but they haven't still for over 2 years, but Episode 34 of Healin' Good Pretty Cure still doesn't have subtitles on the Fire tv app.
-
It could be that there is a credits roll after the film and it was just skipped for this premiere to move right into the q&a afterwards.
Then again, given the lack of credits with recent releases I wouldn't exactly be surprised if there were no proper credits here...
-
@MooseAP Well thats going to make the movie a bummer to me

@Zephray How is the Cruncyroll player?
It doesn’t have 30-second or 10-second easy skip options. You have full rewind and fast-forward only. The player works fine otherwise. No major crashes for me on a Sony TV through the android app. My biggest complaint with the app is the filing and folders. Some shows have entirely separate listings for the dubs (MHA) while other shows have them all mixed in together under one listing. Whenever you want to find a particular version of a show, it takes some searching by to find it. On top of that, you also have to wait for the text for each category to begin scrolling, since “English/Portuguese/etc Dub” is only listed after the title, and the side bar that holds all those categories is too small to see then at first glance. So yeah, it takes a while to find what you’re after sometimes. Also, the Op folders are just a mess when it comes to the names and extra folders.
-
@Zephray Oh no that is my problem with Hulu, i know for a fact i seen the My Hero Academia Season 6 english dub on there one day but when i go the listings its nowhere to be found. Even the most basic players have the 10/30 seconds rewind and fast fowards so thats a shame they dont.

Confirmation that the dub has left the songs in their original Japanese language.
That's a shame, especially as the covered music was the reason I reserved sub and dub tickets on opening weekend. I wonder how many cinema-goers will be caught off guard by the language switch, given that Crunchyroll's been a bit vague and AmaLee's tweet (arguably) implied that the movie would have dubbed songs? Presumably this is a Toei/publisher mandate that Crunchyroll aren't too happy with.
On the bright side: if AmaLee does cover all the songs for YouTube, we'll be able to put a fan-mix together.
-
I always had a feeling this would happen given the high profile of the artist and these songs, not to mention the constant promotion of the album - but it does seem like a missed opportunity to have Amalee, a good singer, voice a character but not have her sing in the actual movie. Oh well. ️
-
Have they been all that vague though? Their dub cast announcement specified that the songs were performed by Ado and all the trailers and advertisements they put out had the songs still in Japanese, so it seemed pretty obvious to me.
I guess that tweet from AmaLee might have caused some confusion, but it seemed more like she was suggesting the song covers were something she was personally doing and not an actual part of the film.
-
@midod said in Funimation DVD Discussion IV (Please Check First Post for FAQ):

An official clarification would have been helpful. The wording "performed by Japanese singer Ado" is slightly ambiguous, as it doesn't directly specify the language being sung (the recent Dragon Ball movies have themes sung in English by Japanese singers). Then AmaLee seemingly contradicts Crunchyroll (I'm in the movie and can't wait for you to hear the songs [that aren't in the movie]) and it's even less clear.
You can see by the reactions in this thread that people weren't sure how the songs would be handled. -
Oh, wow. Film Red is going to be at basically every theater chain in my area. No joke about it being a bigger release. Hopefully this means OP is gaining popularity in the states? I’ve never been able to figure out how to track its rise outside of merchandise appearances.
And yes, seconding what folks are saying about the songs. I expected them to be dubbed, but I guess I don’t know enough about how popular that singer is in Japan. I guess she was too popular and that became an issue.
-
Seems like a crazy waste to have cast AmaLee as Uta, and not have her dub the songs. Makes me think FUNi believed they would be dubbing the music, only to get shot down by some combination of Toei/music label/Ado to promote her in America. It's going to terribly break the immersion for her to suddenly start singing in another language.
-
It’s definitely grown since Stampede.
Netflix streaming the series during the pandemic was a godsend for it.
And Wano’s top-tier animation has caught the attention of many.
Even Ado being the singer for this movie has grabbed non-OP fans to go see it.
OP has definitely grown in popularity here in the US in the last few years.

You’re wrong about this as well. It has the 10 second skip options.

That’s cool. What app are you using? Those don’t appear on mine. Are you using a gaming app or something? My app is a barebones media player.
-
My Smart TV doesn't have a Crunchyroll app. So I have no choice but to use AirPlay off the Crunchyroll app on my iPhone. It's...not the best. I much prefer just browsing and selecting from a single app on my TV.
Oh, speaking of Netflix for a moment...I was just popping into some random dub episodes on Netflix, and noticed the entire experience kinda sucks there. Eyecatchers are removed. The animation for Mirai Kokai is used, but it plays the following ending theme over it. Not only that, but there's another ending theme that Netflix apparently couldn't get the rights to. The one that plays at the start of Enies Lobby.
So overall, watching on FUNi's app is a better overall experience for me.

@Zephray im on my Xbox one. The app wasn’t available on Xbox until pretty recently. I believe it’s this way on ps4 and next gen as well

Sounds like I should switch to a gaming system if I want fancy features. Do you have the file/sorting problems I described, too? Might just be that they put more dev funds into gaming system apps than android all-around ones.
-
@Zephray the game system app isn’t without flaws. Your recently watched list isn’t on the Home Screen, which I found ro be rather annoying. Admittedly, I haven’t explored many functions of crunchyroll, so I don’t know much of the site besides simple video playback

Honestly, I'd say that's better than the DVDs because less content is missing.

Adventure World (the one with the fan art)? Presumably Asu wa Kuru Kara plays, as those are the last two ending themes?
-
I saw the Film Red commercial airing a couple times during tonight's episode of Monday Night Raw on USA.
-
@LostTimeLord Double-checked:
-Mirai Kokai animation is used, but Eternal Pose plays over it.
-Asu wa Kurukara animation is used, but Dear Friends plays over it. -
Real bummer with the news of no dubbed songs. Isn't, like, 20+ minutes of the movie singing? Stupid.
How did France get away with it? Better relationship with Toei or something? It's apparently even getting an album release there: https://hoshi.bfan.link/OnePieceFilmLesChansonsdUta.ybi

Man, I just remembered how excited I am to hear Kaido’s dubbed voice on the regular. Only a few more months. It’s possible they’ll announce the next voyage, the end of WCI, this week even.
I noticed like two days ago Film Red ads started blowing up my Twitter timeline. They’re definitely spending money. Great to hear they’re on TV too.
-
I haven't posted in here since 2015. Finally caught up on all physical and Manga releases and i'm really looking forward to seeing Film Red next week! I'm really disappointed that One Piece Odessey is not getting dubbed . Especially since other shonen games like OPM and MHA keep getting dubs. Has Bandai Namco ever stated why OP games continue to be sub only?

Welcome back! Unfortunately, we've never heard any word on why that is. Some of us suspect it's because OP (or the OP dub) isn't popular enough to warrant the additional expense, but we really have no definitive idea.
-
That's a shame, well at least we are slowly inching our way towards Wano.
-
Are the odds high for the last episodes of WHole Cake to release next week? and also im not even go waste my money on the following set of Reverie since most of that is filler
-
Voyage 7(?) is up on Funi now too.
-
Correction, most of voyage seven. Some episodes say they’re up but won’t play. Like 860, at least on my device. I watched that episode on my laptop via the digital purchase and noticed audio cut out entirely for a line when Bege crashes his ship. Not sure if this is a QC issue only for the digital purchase or if it’ll be on the app too.
-
To add to that, it seems the Spanish release of Film Red will be dubbing the songs as well, so now I’m truly perplexed. I thought it was because the songs and artist were too high-profile to dub over but if there’s more than one country dubbing over the songs then that might not be the issue…. Unless America is promoting the songs and Ado and those other countries are not, thus promoting them to leave the songs as is.
That or perhaps AmaLee just couldn’t make good English versions of the songs in time for the release. It really is quite odd, since the dub does usually dub over in-universe songs and other countries are doing it. Hmm…
-
@AceLuffy4ever I’m still mad Toei essentially ruined the Reverie arc. Probably one of the worst decisions they ever made.
-
@MooseAP said in Funimation DVD Discussion IV (Please Check First Post for FAQ):

It is what it is. :-/
Wow, oof. Subbed is the way to go for the theatrical viewing for me then. I'll check out the dub when it's on Blu-ray.
-
Welp. There we go. Probably the main reason why the songs are being left as is.
-
I'm fine either way, but this could be a Zombieland Saga situation where we didn't get the dubbed songs until the Blu-ray release.
-
I doubt we’ll get them at all.
-
@Zephray well again the voice actress of Uta, AmaLee will have the dubbed versions of the songs on her YouTube account so we got that at least.
-
@MooseAP said in Funimation DVD Discussion IV (Please Check First Post for FAQ):

Hmmm, still dumb. It's not like Ado's music isn't going to be available here anywhere (like the subbed showing of the film, eventual streaming, home releases, Spotify, etc).

To add to that, they're getting dubbed into
,
and
too. One thing to note though, looks like all of these were announced very last second (all the countries are also opening next week like us), so maybe it could be the same way with us (if this record deal thing doesn't have any bearing on that, that is).
Guess we'll just have to wait til next week to be sure.
-
@MooseAP Same here, when i found myself fast forwarding through the episode, i was at the end in no time, they couldve structured and handle them episodes much better than they did

Did she ever give clarity on that? I know the one initial tweet mentions she'll be dubbing the songs, but she never said how she'd release them, right? Could be on the bluray; could be on YouTube; could also be that she thought she'd be allowed to dub them for the theatrical release (though this is less likely); could also be that she recorded them before the rights situation became a problem. I have no idea how this is working or will work. Does she answer anyone asking on her Twitter?

Yeah, everything's been pretty vague from what I can see. Quite possible they were or were planned to be dubbed before hitting this roadblock and we're stuck with the original Japanese (at least until further notice). It's actually happened several times in recent years where distributors made dubbed OPs/EDs for shows, but then weren't allowed to use them (new dubs of Sailor Moon come to mind).
Maybe wouldn't hurt to ask her again more directly, but I'd wager she probably wouldn't be able to tell us anything.
-
Pretty sure she said she’s going to release the covers which means they’ll be on her YouTube and other music services. She’s a big time YouTuber, after all.
-
They probably want EVERYONE who chooses to watch the movies to hear her voice singing and no one else. They’re really trying to promote Ado in the US. Her getting that record deal here pretty much cements that, that rarely ever happens with Japanese artists.
-
I wonder if Film Red will impact the WCI release schedule. Would suck if we missed a month.
-
@Zephray I mean… if it did, it would have already. They were most likely being worked on at the same time.
