1000 Episodes of One Piece: What Makes the Series So Special?
https://ign.com/videos/1000-episodes-of-one-piece-what-makes-the-series-so-special -
So is the 1000 episode actually going to be special or just a run if the mill episode?
-
When IGN can get Vale but funi can’t.
-

Like chapter 1000, it will just be another episode, albeit one that has some really strong staff on it and that adapts a particularly hype moment. Toei clearly wants to make it a particularly good episode, but yeah, it is ultimately just "the next episode of this ongoing storyline."
-
I was hoping it would be double length. It seems it’ll have a new theme song and officially announce the next OP film. Hopefully the livestream will have dub announcements.

Here we go. Colleen interview with a bit more meat on it.

Is it confirmed we going to get a new movie announcement?
-
It’s weird cuz like, the livestream would be the best time to announce a voyage, they have with both the past ones. Thing is recently they’ve wanted to announce them like, less than a week before release. And there’s no way that gonna be the case here, cause it’ll only have been 2 weeks if we get a voyage the following tuesday.

Tbh if they couldn’t get Vale in time I didn’t expect Sabat either but apparently I was wrong
-
Another interview from Screenrant, featuring Eric Vale and Mike McFarland:

-
Almost wonder if they couldn’t get Vale in time cuz he was recording too much other one piece interview stuff lol
-
I’m hoping at the least we get a release date for the next voyage. Dubbed backlog movies are my wish, though.
-
Colleen's Voice Actor Reaction:
-
Well, there was nothing dub-related in the livestream. They did formally announce One Piece Film: Red, though.
-
I was kinda hoping for. something. dub related but that was a fun stream. Okay they technically did announce the movie but also it was officially announced at Japan slightly earlier I think so bleh.
-
So I guess now would be the time we ask if Funis gonna get it, but like, is that even a question? One piece is doing better for them than ever, and they get films for even semi-successful franchises to america within 2-3 months nowadays. I think it’s kindve a given.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh yeah, also, they changed the August 6th release date at the end to “coming soon”, so, pretty much confirmed they’re in talks about it already.
-

FUnimation has been good with dubbing the One Piece movies a couple of months after the japanese release even Film Stampede back when we was in the drought, so no worries there.
-
Big bummer but not all too surprising. I guess we ought to be thankful for the faster release schedule and shut up.
-
Another Mike and Eric interview. Most videos I’ve posted have gotten more views than this
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
and a Colleen one
-
Man. They must’ve known this would be great for special features on future releases. Betting we get these ones soon.
…still bummed about no new dub news.
-
Nah, these are like independent from funimation. there’s been tons and tons of interviews that have never gotten on a blu ray.
-
Eric mentioned Sanji’s stuff “coming up.” It sounded like they’re about to dub it or are very very early in WCI.
-
Smash speculation vibes.
-
He’s always super far ahead. Willing to bet he’s halfway or more through WCI.
any bets for the date drop of the next set? I’m betting we get one more this year.
-
It looks like the UK cover for Collection 24 swaps out the Marine flag with a Punk Hazard background, which I have to say makes the artwork look a lot more appealing.
!
-
Well I just think the smoker artwork itself looks a lot better.
-
Where do folks imagine we'll be in the series roughly by the time RED drops? Obviously WCI, but any estimates for episode numbers/Voyages by then?
-
Film comes out late next year? Yeah, probably in the last third of WCI.
-
New voyage is up on funimation! Welcome to Zou!
-
New voyage is up on funimation! Welcome to Zou!
Yay!! And I'm just about to finish Dressrosa!
-
I hope they are literally trying to catch up and then proceed to simuldub the episodes
-

Even if they are trying to do it in that way it’d still take like 3, maybe 2 years, best to just assume we’ll keep this pace up for now at most and remove simuldub hopes for the time being.
-
Heh, think I found another dub inconsistency. (Just getting to the Zou eps now.)
When we're first introduced to Bartolomeo's ship, I believe he calls it the "Mr. Going Luffy". But in subsequent episodes, as well as the on-screen text at one point, it's called the "Luffy Go".
It was really nice to hear Kaku's dub voice again. Ironic too, because I just finished watching Water 7 and Enies Lobby with my fiance.
I find it interesting how dedicated the dub cast is to using very Japanese pronunciations for words based on Japanese concepts. Samurai and Ninja, for example, are pronounced very deliberately as though they were speaking them in Japanese. It sounds a bit awkward in English, but I like the effort. Could also be a Toei mandate.
-
Yeah, I noticed the Luffy Go thing. It really bothered me but, at this point i’m just kinda tired of talking about these things tbh lol.

Yeah I remember that being the consensus folks arrived at speculatively when the dub came back under Toei. Felt very much like a small thing that came with the change in how the dub's produced and who's handling certain aspects.

Kind of annoying to spiritually revert to a 4Kids term in 2021. Presumably someone wanted the names to be consistent with Viz, but at least Viz was consistent with their own name for the "Merry Go".

IIRC that was the case when they talked about Samurai in the Thriller Bark episodes.

I just rewatched Film Gold. Watched the filler, then the special, then the movie. The plot doesn’t entirely make sense. Akainu asks Lucci why he doesn’t take down Tesoro, and Lucci says basically, “Everything is going according to my plan.” But then he randomly decides to take Tesoro in at the end. And for some reason, Sabo stops him? Aren’t they all on the same side for once? What was Lucci’s plan? Just to take money for the celestial for a while?
Also, Tesoro lends the SHs 20 million (plus clothes), then they win 300 million gambling. When they lose that money on a big bet, Tesoro says they owe 320 million. That’s….not how gambling works. They should owe the 20 million loan, not an additional 300 mil. Unless I missed something, this math was broke af and no one noticed.
Still don’t care for that movie. Cool to have Hisoka’s VA, though. Hate that they fight a large fan for ten minutes.

If someone mentions this to Clint, he might call it in.

Willing to bet we’ll get a new set maybe on the 14th.
-
@Blake:
Yeah, I noticed the Luffy Go thing. It really bothered me but, at this point i’m just kinda tired of talking about these things tbh lol.
Then episodes onward from now the Going Merry will be the Merry Go in the Funimation dub as well on flashbacks, text and dialogue.
-
Haaaaaaaaa…right after I made my post about samurai and ninja, I got to an episode where Sheepshead and Gin-Rummy argue about those terms, and nearly every line changes the pronunciation back and forth. lolol But I can chalk that up to Sheepshead being a villain who doesn't care about such things. ;)
Also, found another dub line change...not anything incorrect, just an odd happenstance. At the end of one episode, Wanda reveals the name of who destroyed the country. She says something along the lines of, "His name was Jack." In the very next episode, during the recap, this scene gets repeated, but Wanda's line is completely different. In the recap, she calls him Jack the Drought.

They still refer to it as the "Going Merry" in the same episode where they have "Mister Luffy Go" as onscreen text
-
Thank God for small blessings.
-
Damn, I finished all of the Zou episodes we just got so quickly.
-
There were only a couple and they were all very introductory. That filler arc really ate up the set.
I remember a while back where we got an entire voyage of filler. I think that was right after Enies Lobby? Man, not looking forward to that ever happening again. Thankfully it won’t.
-
Wasn’t that after Alabasta with the Goat arc and Rainbow Mist and Chopper filler?
-
I was thinking of the Ice Hunter Arc. Episodes 326-335. But I think you’re right too.
Damn, Maron. I remember you posting back then. We’ve been here for a whiiiiile.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Last year, we got a set on Dec 1 and Dec 29. So I guess they don’t mind releasing really close to Christmas. Not sure of how much to ration these last five episodes.
Loved the Ryousuke episode. Really good art and direction that episode, too! I’ll miss Bart.
-
Just finished the set and my wife is understandably upset that we don’t know where Sanji is.
