Your links never work, Blake. There’s always an extra http
-
Fixed, annoying how it already has one, when logistically the link is probably gonna be copy pasted and you wouldn’t have to type it anyways.
-
I wonder if the two years they gave it allowed more time for it to get more popular, thereby increasing sales. I’ve always been curious to know sales figures for the sets—and compare them year to year.
-
Episode 751 is pretty much just gonna be east blue scenes redubbed for the billionth time, so mildly interesting I guess.

Perhaps I’m reading too much into things, but in this Ian looks like, noticeabley surprised when straw hat chase is mentioned.

Making me think that it is not going to be dubbed sadly
-
I took that as him just acting for fun. Like, “OMG! A bonus! You better buy it!”
-
Yeah, for sure could be. It’s just weird that the topic hasn’t been explicitly brought up at all. Like why can’t you just confirm if it’s also dubbed or not, even if logically you could assume so.
-
It’s only two days away. We’ll see. Not a giant deal either way. I’m curious how they’ll release it if it is dubbed. Would they drop it as a special feature on the next film release? I’d hope so.
-
Yeah, or who knows maybe even just a voyage cuz we’re still a good ways away from the next movie probably. Tbh though I wouldn’t put it past them to do a stand alone release even if it would like objectively be a terrible deal.
-
I don’t see voyage or individual release of Mugiwara Chase happening. Would be very odd.
And don’t say we’re far off from another movie release! Fingers crossed they’ll announce some old films for dubbed release during the 1000 episode livestream! A man can dream.
-
I mean, even if we did get a movie see I just don’t see any possible way they’d release it in a livestream for americanss, instead of yknow, something their native much bigger audience would see. Like imagine if they announced a new marvel movie or something in an obscure japanese livestream that only a few thousand people watched.
-
Can we start hoping for a simuldub?
-
To be frank, no, I dont think so. They probably just have no reason to do so from their perspective. It’s way more efficient to focus on old material until they catch up, instead of rushing to put together a dub from materials right as they get them. So I probably wouldn’t even think about it until they naturally catch up, granted that actually doesn’t seem impossible at this point, but would at least take a few years.
-
I think we can start hoping for a simuldub when they get into Wano in the dub. (But I've always prayed for one now.) There's no reason they can't do it now, honestly; they just won't. Sure, it's just a little harder than other shows–but the pandemic has revolutionized ADR recording, allowing them to have a more flexible schedule since the actors don't need to come in for work or share studios with other productions. It's totally possible for them to do now if they want, I just don't think OP is popular enough to warrant the time/expense.
-

@Blake:

Movies 1-3 have been full-priced in Japan and internationally, and the Spanish release of Mugiwara Chase seems to be full-priced as well. If it gets a disc release, I'd expect it to be treated as its own 'title', even if it only comes out in a multi-movie release; like how the "remastered" DBZ movies were each on their own disc despite being ~50 minutes each and exclusively sold in bundles. I can't see it being affordable to license just to use as a bonus feature, but a 30 minute 3D movie (probably without the 3D) is a hard sell in 2021.
-
I mean yeah, I never said they couldn’t. It just doesn’t really make sense from a business perspective atm was what I was saying, so we agree more or less.
-
I could see it as a "special feature" on another film. Like, say they released Baron or re-released SW with it attached (and a little sticker on the front noting the "free movie included"). I've seen that done before.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
All this talk about the 30 minute special and...it kind of looks bad. lol. i haven't seen it and am looking forward to it, but man does it look like a random filler episode with PS3 cutscene animations.
-
I mean yeah, it doesn’t look great visually. But like, nice novelty for one short I guess. Hey, this is probably the closest we’ll get to having another game dubbed!
-
Yeah, I could see it being bundled with Strong World. Being asked to double-dip would annoy me, but I could see it happening. If they bundle it with something "new", I would be shocked if they didn't charge extra for it (and perhaps give Chase its own case to make the package seem like better value).
Mugirwara Chase kinda feels like a slightly-extended version of what you'd watch in a theme park's 4D cinema (to the point of Trap Coaster apparently using the same assets), but it's fun enough and has that One Piece charm. -
Not that I think this would happen, but now that I think about it a cool celebration for 1000 episodes would’ve been the first 3 movies as a triple feature. The movies were each made to be double features anyways, there combined run time is barely longer than strong world and straw hat chase are gonna be.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
This feels like such an obvious thing to do, but I feel like they won’t since it hasn’t been mentioned, but now would literally be the perfect time to release volume 0.
I mean, we already got it’s main content, chapter 0, but not the rest of it and in order to get it you have to buy a whole box set. Just when to MHA work heroes mission and they were giving out its special volume for free, so why not the same here?
-
I still say we should push TOEI to release the older movies at a steady pace too. Look at TMS paying to release the backlog of older Detective Conan movies for English dubs for example.
-
I imagine it’s easier to do that when you aren’t even trying to touch the snow anymore, as apposed to constantly dubbing the hundreds of episodes worth of backlog.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
In the theater, only on my phone cuz they entirely stopped in the middle of straw hat chase and they turned the lights on. Great movie experience. Not dubbed btw.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
dude clarified they’re gonna start it up again and that straw hat chase is subbed, i think it literally confused the theater employees.
-

I wish they'd go back and release the older movies. There's 24 DC movies, Discotek has only released the 5 newest ones (minus the most recent 24th feature). Funimation released the first 6 then there's a gap of 12 that haven't made it over and then DT started with the newest ones
-
Back at home. Also messed up at the end, movie just shut off in the last few minutes. I’m assuming this usually happens automatically, but the set back from earlier made it so it happened before it was finished. Also when they first started it again, there was no sound and they had to put it on and rewind.
Straw hat chase by itself was a cute short but wow, now that I’ve went through this it really puts into perspective how shitty this is. There is not a doubt in my mind that they didn’t clarify this information simply so they could get more butts in seats from assumption. When you buy a dub ticket you don’t expect to suddenly hear people speaking japanese in the first minute.
I know some may say I’m being silly and I shouldn’t be mad over a 30 minute short not being dubbed. Not really, I can live without it. What I have a problem with is advertising so misleading even theater employees were confused. I hate toei.
-
Yeah, ours had some weird sound issues, too. Never shut off completely, though.
Totally agree with you on the manipulation of audiences here. Very tacky of them to never make a note anywhere online that the short wouldn’t be dubbed.
Guess they didn’t see a point in dubbing if they had no release plan.
-
But yeah, minus the shady marketing, the disappointment is very much gonna be made up for with zou in 2 days! I do wish we could get a full set of it, aside from the 4 fillers, the first proper episodes is literally like all recap until the last 2 minutes. So more like 7 zou episodes. Still though, most new voices in a voyage in a very very long time (although mostly because episode of sabo). Weevil, Dog, Carrot, Wanda, and Pedro. Also several other minor mini characters whose names slip my mind right now.
-
It'll be very nice. I'm going to drag out my rationing by watching those four filler Film Gold tie ins, then Heart of Gold, then Film Gold (which my partner hasn't seen, since she only watches dubbed with me). So I probably won't start Zou for another month, haha. Will definitely watch all the new voices early first, though.
-
That sounds like a cool way to get to watch actually. I think barely anyone watches all a movies supplemental material in the intended order.
-
They never really relate enough to be rewarding, honestly. Usually the filler or special just mentions or has a brief flash of a character from the movie.
-
I just meant like, it’s better than watching the movie then watching the tie in episodes over 5 years later.
-
So Straw Hat Chase was not dubbed? Hrm, sounds a bit weak… They really should have at least told people that ahead of time. Oh well, not a huge loss either way considering how... Straw Hat Chase is kind of a nothing movie. Still hope that they'll at least put it up for streaming or download somewhere just so that we can have a semi-competent translation for it, though. And yeah, it would be nice if they could go back and actually release those earlier movies. At the very least, if they put out Baron Omatsuri and Episode of Chopper + (in some capacity where a Norwegian like myself could actually get them to work) I would be happy to buy them. Would also probably get Dead End Adventure maybe possibly. Well… all of this does still depend on them getting at least semi-competent translations which is a bit of a crapshoot with this series. (Though even the extremely dry in-house Toei translations that the show gets would be a tremendous improvement over what currently exists for Straw Hat Chase.)
-
I am dumbfounded that they didn't dub the chopper movie after all these years.
-
My wife has skipped all the filler in our watch through and I haven’t watched any filler past Long Ring Long Land but we’re gonna watch this filler with the new set cuz why not. Also Gold is my favorite movie so even a small amount of connection will be fine. This one has the mine cart guy too, right? Stupid, I love it.
-
pushes up glasses Actually, he’s a… tram… guy.
-
The real selling point of this filler is more time with Bart.
-
Went to the theater last night with my fiance to see Strong World dubbed. She's only seen up to the middle of Enies Lobby, but I figured I'd take her anyway, since this was a limited engagement. She already knows that Franky joins the crew, and that a skeleton eventually joins. Prior to the movie was a bunch of One Piece trivia questions. One of which featured a picture of Kaido with the question, "Which of the following pirates was never a member of Rocks?" Then two trailers played showing scenes from Wano to hype up the upcoming 1,000th episode. I had to blindfold her until the movie started.
Straw Hat Chase was fun. It's clear that it was originally intended to be viewed in 3D, which probably would have made it even better. Despite telling my fiance that there would be a short featurette before the actual movie, she got confused when Straw Hat Chase went to credits, and asked me why we spent $30 to see a 30-minute cartoon.
When Strong World started up, and the dub started playing, three guys in the row in front of us turned around to me to ask me if I was there to see the sub. I told them all of the Sunday performances were the dub, and the sub wasn't playing until Tuesday. They actually got up and left. Morons.
My theater didn't have any technical glitches, although the lights didn't turn off until about ten minutes into Strong World. I stayed through the entire English credits, and nothing unusual happened.
Toei needs to get us Movie 6 already.
-
Hah. I got there five minutes late, as I tend to do for movies since I see like two or three a week, and missed the first few minutes. Turns out there are no trailers for Fathom events and I'd forgotten that since I don't see Fathom often.
And to be honest, my bluray looked better quality. Not sure if this is the theater's fault or Toei/Funimation's.

Bundle sale on their website. Can I...just buy the blanket?
https://shop.funimation.com/home-video/one-piece-season-11-bundle-with-blanket/FUN-00928.html
-
Okay literally why does this exist when buying the collection releases would be around the same price.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I also noticed the bad quality. I kinda just attributed it to strong world only being produced in 1080p as apposed to most movies nowadays being 4k, so this was just my first time noticing how unimpressive it is when blown up on a theater screen. But like, I remember stampede looking better in theaters .
-
Nah, it was probably the file Funimation sent. Their audio mixers suck (I remember points in the MHA movie where I couldn't hear the important dialogue over the blasting soundtrack), so I wouldn't be surprised if their encoders sucked, too.
-
Oh yeah, the movie itself was the raw japanese version. No on screen text translation or english credits. Going to assume this is because toei is dedicated to prevent giving literally anyone who makes stuff for them any credit. Sadly I am only half joking.
-
@Blake:
Oh yeah, the movie itself was the raw japanese version. No on screen text translation or english credits.
There was a english credits scroll after the japanese credits (and post credit scene)
-
Ah, my bad. Yeah it’s always been that way. I just havent seen the credits for awhile, and the other movies have completely replaced credits so I just assumed.
-
Since it was the raw version, did it have "Fanfare" playing during the credits or was it the replacement music from the movie's soundtrack that Funi swapped it with for the DVD/ BD release?
-
Like I said I was mistaken, so no it was still the OST.
-
So, uh, are we going to make bets as to how many episodes will be missing this time around?
-
Don’t you dare jinx it.
-
Went to see Strong World and Mugiwara Chase last night with my girlfriend. She's only seen up to the beginning of Alabasta, but she's aware of some later things like Franky, Brook, and even the timeskip. She still has many, many questions I cannot answer lol. The whole experience was a lot of fun! There were no technical issues. Just the theater forgetting to turn the lights off after it started lol.
I want to mention that this was my first time seeing Mugiwara Chase, and the only thing I didn't like about it not being dubbed was the weirdness of it being paired up with a dubbed movie. Regardless, I thought the movie was enjoyable BUT I dunno if it was enjoyable enough to watch again. It was sorta basic, and it not being dubbed or released otherwise feels like no big loss.
Also I was hoping for Fanfare to be there, but alas it wasn't. Ah well.
@Blake:
Okay literally why does this exist when buying the collection releases would be around the same price.
Maybe it's BECAUSE of the collections? Like they wanna get rid of the extra voyages laying around so they bundle it up at a lower price with a bonus?
-
Not a bad theory, but I feel like I’ve seen things suggesting the voyages have sold well.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
So, uh, are we going to make bets as to how many episodes will be missing this time around?
Looking like the answer is all of them, splendid.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh wait, may be a different hour than due to daylight savings. Usually they don’t like, just completely forget to put up the listing. Although nothing like this happened last year.
-
Yeah, I’m betting they put up nothing or only a few episodes.
