Skypiea was a little odd buy you can't blame them as they were the first episodes they dubbed and even then they went back and fixed some of the oddities. I just think that people grossly over exaggerate this supposed difference between Mike and Joel, there's no real difference.

Season 4-5- Acted as a "Golden Era" where the dub truly found it's groove and most of the characterization and scripting was spot on.
Starting with Season 6 while still having consistently good dubbing there were portions that seemed a little generic. Overall the dub still feels more natural than many long running dubs.
I agree to an extent, but I see this less as a problem with directing so much as the material and context. Mike got to be main director of the seasons which covered the CP9 saga, which is considered by many to be the high-point of the story/anime in general. Also coming off a major hiatus and the less consistent first three seasons (season 3 particularly) the notable boost in quality was even more impressive then.
In comparison the anime has decreased in quality overall since. While the War saga is perfectly good, the CP9 stuff is still considered to be the highest point for the series. Thriller Bark in particular was pretty iffy in the anime, and I really didn’t feel like the Mike directed episodes at the beginning were able to overcome that any more than the Joel ones, nor did it really feel like there was much of a transition between the Joel and Mike directed Impel Down episodes, outside of the Mike episodes having more meat to them (Joel got pretty much all the set-up episodes for that arc).
I just think that people grossly over exaggerate this supposed difference between Mike and Joel, there's no real difference.
I wouldn’t say there’s no difference (there’s always at least a subtle difference) but yeah, I do think it’s been pretty exaggerated around here; it does feel like some have become hyper-focused on finding differences. I don’t mind people pointing out elements of the dub they didn’t like because nothings perfect (while some might choose to forget, people did have problems with even the Mike directed episodes). I just wish it was more like it was with the older seasons, where they’d point out a mistake without having to make some dig at the supposed lack of quality of the director.

I agree with mostly everything you said

And the episodes are still not up…even though the last three times they were released in the morning. Just when I thought Funimation was becoming more professional...
-
Ok good so its not just me bugging out, it seems whenever the heavily anticipated episode are due, Funi's website always have a delay
-
what exactly is the means to watch new releases on funimation's website? Is it a Netflix like subscription thing?

You used to have to pay $8 a month to stream the episodes. Now I think you can watch them in SD for free and in HD with a subscription.
-
oh so they are freely available legitimately? that's good news. Rather annoyingly The UK is releasing collections not too sure about the voyages, but to my knowledge they are behind and essentially cost twice as much as the USA.
Thus I usually unfortunately have to resort to finding alternative ways to watch them.
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to ask this but is there a way to use a proxy and be able to view footage? Because the times I've tried to view trailers for upcoming sets via proxy, the funimation site loads but no video will play.
-
No they only have a select few episodes for the public, when it comes to dubbed videos
-
Funimation is not available in the UK tho
-
Silly really they could have quite easily made the site available outside US
-
Its bull these episodes still arent available, i may start buying the Dvds now, the commentaries and extra do sound enticing, i just need to know who tend to ship there Dvds the earliest
-
Wow. It actually happened. I can hardly believe it, but it happened. They actually forgot to release the new episodes.
Figures it'd be on the best arc of One Piece. :getlost: -
It's not midnight in Dallas yet, so they may still be true to their word and upload them on 5/31…..
It's almost like they're reading this thread and purposely screwing with us at this point.
-
Its after midnight in Dallas now , so now they have officially lied lol
-
I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't put them up at all in order to sell more DVDs…

something similar happend last year where they had to delay the episodes release months after the dvds were out
-
Well, for those who were waiting for it, the episodes appear to be up on the site now.
-
yep they are, cant wait until im able to go home and watch them
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Episode 460 is really pissing me off, with the way people are talking down on Ace just because of who his father is especially the tone they are using, and when Hancock said Ace isnt Luffy's real brother is just so wrong since it takes more than blood to become finally, watching in English i can already tell my emotions is going to be on overload since i can comprehend what everyone is saying lol

Pissing you off in a good way?

@Long:
Pissing you off in a good way?
yep means the dubbing is fantastic and very on point
-
I think I'm going to hold off on Marineford until the whole arc is dubbed, so I can watch it in one big go.
-
Jeez. They're a little less than 50 episodes ahead. Sounds like it's time for a release speed up. …please.
And, for the record, this is not the first time the website has been late to put up episodes since last year.

I AGREE WITH YOU SISTER .

It was like a day late, so there was no need to whine. Though honestly I was getting ready to bitch if they hadn't put them up yesterday.
-
I just saw Episode 461. I noticed an error where Shanks has his left arm intact wasn't present in the dub.
-
3 episode in and really enjoying it. did they change gold roger voice actor? he sounded weird and different.
I don't like ace kid voice, hopefully I'll get used to it later on.
-

No. You're just not used to hearing him say anything other than his usual speech.

Nope. Same guy. This is the most you've ever heard him talk outside of inspirational one liners.
-
Looking forward to hearing that. The one-liners make him sound pretty horrid; will his speaking voice be just as ridiculous?
-
He's the only guy whose ever been the most "pirate" like in the entire show. But to answer your question yes. Though I don't think it's horrible.

Yeah i noticed they fixed the arm error as well, go funimation :)
-
Toei usually fixes these type of mistakes for home video release.

Thoughts on the lufy whitebeard scene, havent seen but a few people on reddit complained about it and yeah they tend to be les dub friendly but im curious what people think
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Just heard the doflamingo speech, " the winner will define the meaning of justice" is a hell of a lot less impactful then "the winners will become justice". Doesnt help he loses doflamingo's manic energy.
I wonder how many times joel does things in one take, I'd bet more than mike. Im just hoping the end result isnt meaningful phrases replaced by overly wordy phrasing or a lack of energy.
-
I disagree with you there. The Doflamingo line was prefect in the dub in my opinion
-
Man people here sure like to blame Joel for everything they don't like in the dub. I'm starting to feel bad for the guy.
In other news, Sonny Straight posted about how he spent 3 hours voicing Ussop yesterday on twitter. Here's the link. I guess that means the dub has reached the point where the Straw Hat's start returning to the story. I wonder if they're up to the time skip yet.
-
No way actors match their dialogue to the lip flaps/timing enough or lack flubs enough for Joel to supposedly do things in one take too often. But really now, making whatever assumptions you want as an excuse to dump on the director? Yeah…....if my previous posts didn't make it clear enough I really loathe this whole director debate…

I feel like doflamingo's crazyness was lowered. He seems a little too calm IMO. Whitebeard too when confronting luffy seemed not as intimidating.
Also after checking other scenes, luffy kind of comes off like a bit of a jerk in certain scenes idk if anyone else feels like that or if it's just sounds different hearing him in japanese being more or less carefree in how he talks to people. Like "you dont even know me" or " im not as old as you". Mayne thats some artistic license but it gives me an eren yeager feel instead of determined luffy. Idk maybe im just nitpicking
Edit: and im not blaming joel because of anhthing ive seen of him before because i have no idea what arcs he did and what he didnt, im just questioning the work of this arc

I'm wagering a guess that they were dubbing Film Gold. I just have this feeling. Especially since we know that
! Spandam is in the film, and Christopher Smith was "reminiscing" about One Piece a few weeks ago on Twitter, saying he hoped to see Mike McFarland again soon.
-
I'm pretty sure it's either for when they appear before the timeskip or its for Film Gold but considering that the voice of Pell tweeted that he voiced for Pell recently, I'm pretty sure it's for when they appear before the timeskip. Though, I don't have any doubt that they will be or are already dubbing Film Gold.

The Straw Hat's don't have a whole lot of scenes though, before the time skip anyway.

Honestly I don't really get all the blubbering, the only weak performance to be had was little oars jr. But that was never gonna be pulled off properly anyway.

Well I have only seen snippets maybe once I recatch up again Ill have more feeling towards it. It is differennt watching clips vs in episode, Im sort of just afraid in some ways that they play it too silly or verbiose
-
Just watched the next two theme songs on my own. Feel pretty good about being able to watch the theme songs again with the episodes. My girlfriend and I were skipping it for the past season or two because we didn't want anything spoiled for her– that they go to Marineford (thereby giving away way early that rescuing ace at impel down was a failure) and that Luffy builds up this villainous crew (way more fun to find out the members one by one instead of seeing them all in the damn theme). For some reason, that theme was just way more spoilerific than others. I don't mind her seeing faces early, but plotpoints are too much. Especially significant ones.
-
Ok the bias Funimation has for Fairy Tail is showing again lol, just like the past couple of times, the Fairy Tail Episodes are up days early than they are supposed to be , while the One Piece Episodes tend to go up a little late
-
Well, Funimation is a company, not an individual, so their "bias" will always lean towards whatever makes them the most money.
-
ONE PIECE should be their number one parody. It is our favorite anime
-

lol, I wish it worked like that but I am afraid it just doesn't. Just because it is our favourite anime doesn't mean it is FUNimation's most popular series in terms of sales. They will always care about the ones that do well for them and put those ones as their number one priority. Though One Piece does pretty well (which is a given considering they keep licensing and dubbing more episodes) I believe Fairy Tail does slightly better for them.
–-----------
Anyway changing the subject a little, after working out that there will be 5 voyages in Season 8 (which will get us up to 516) There should be a constant release of 12 episodes per set, providing they license and dub the One Piece Crossover Episode which was episode 492 so there isn't any discrepancies in the episode count. My theory is that if they DON'T license and dub the Toriko and One Piece crossover episode, the sets should look a little something like this
Voyage 1 - Episodes 457-468 (Already Released - 12 Episodes)
Voyage 2 - Episodes 469-480 (Already Confirmed - 12 Episodes)
Voyage 3 - Episodes 481-491 (11 Episodes, unless they can dub the crossover episode and make it 12)
Voyage 4 - Episodes 493-504 (12 Episodes)
Voyage 5 - Episodes 505-516 (12 Episodes)Anyway, that is my 2 cents worth.

Are you guys making an assumption that FT sells better or what?
