I think it's more complicated than that. One Piece has always been one of their high priority shows. I have the strong feeling that when Funi went all in on their simuldub initiative, it's messed up their disc release schedule.

That’s what I said, isn’t it? Other shows started popping up (simuldub) and became their priority.

Anyone else think the reason they have started taking so long is because toonami dropped the show? Maybe they feel like they don't have to rush. Plus all the simul dubs they are doing lately, they must feel like one piece isn't a priority.

Do we know the current brand manager is? Maybe we can all email him and tell him as fans and people who actually purchase the DVD's we'd like a simul dub or more care put into the series. If this idea sound dumb, you can say, I don't mind.

Not really. It didn’t seem like their dubbing/release schedule changed all that much when the show was put back on Toonami. Also we had that delay after season 5, when it was still on TV, so it’s not like it airing prevented stuff like this from happening.

I remember this, but sadly, that band manager left a while ago. I haven't kept up with funimation beside one piece, so I don't even know who the current brand manager is. Did OPP interview the current one yet?

Also, what Joel issues are you talking about?

If lack of interest was the problem before we would probably just run into the same issue again.

There’s definitely not a lack of interest. If they properly advertised such a venture, everyone and their mama would’ve been talking about it.

There definitely was a lot of interest for a simuldub. In 2015, OPP started a #OPBroadcast hashtag movement to show Funimation that it would be a venture that the fanbase would support.

But the problem has never been about fan interest. The problem is logistics.
Having such a large recurring cast and running almost non-stop are the roadblocks stopping a One Piece simuldub from being a reality.

All I’m saying is, it wouldn’t hurt to express our interest every so often when they post about something related to their simuldub schedule. Just a few “how about a OP simuldub” comments here and there can make them aware that some folks want it.

And they’d manage. The large cast isn’t always present. It’s really just a handful of folks each arc, and only a few of them will be out of towners.

Well if they started with the Whole Cake Island arc there are far less characters to deal with than Dressrosa so it could be possible.

A lot of major characters are out-of-towners, Franky for example is from LA. Also it means they could only cast Texas people for new characters.

Sorry to change the subject guys but I'd like to know what happened with the Collection Boxes (the Amazon exclusives), if there is a way for any one to ask someone in Funimation (conventions, podcasts, whatever) if we are ever getting a forth box. It's the cheapest way to get the collections dvds and the extras are great.

Go to their website and shoot them a question on their contact forum. Who knows if the person on the other side will know, but that’s the only recommendation I have for you. Outside of asking them on Twitter or Facebook.

Delay or not do we have to worry about the show NOT being dubbed, cause i can take the delays they throw at us as long as it means they keep producing the dub

Pretty sure we all agreed the delays are happening, because of the simul dubs. T gives them so much to do that they don’t have time for everything.

Honestly, I'd rather them dub all the movies and TV specials then do a simuldub (as well as dubbing the main series in continuity) I can't imagine it being too difficult. The only reason I can think of that they haven't done it yet is either because the don't have the rights for some reason, or they don't think they will sell

Nah. For me I’d rather have the simul dub. The movies are fun to watch once , and aren’t even canon anyway , despite them trying and failing to connect them (poorly).

As for the specials , well, only 2 of the original efforts are any good , and only the 20th anniversary and return of foxy were any good as well.

I’d second this because we’re gaurenteed to get the episodes eventually anyways, so if it’s a hypothetical choice between a simuldub and the movies/specials, I’d go with the movies and specials, since I’m not convinced we’ll EVER get most of them.

They tend to do movies and specials after finishing a series, but One Piece will never finish, so they’d rather put their time into the episodes than the additional.

We’ve had several delays happen throughout the entire run of the dub, ones even longer than this current one; if they were a indicative of cancellation than the dub would have ended long ago. Some people really need to stop assuming the worst every time we get any sort of break or delay

I've always wondered if perhaps they would consider dubbing the movies and TV specials after they finished playing catch up with Japan. While we'll never be truly "caught up" unless there's a simuldub (which would be difficult with the Strawhats all being A-List actors who may have trouble keeping with a permanent schedule like that), I wonder if they'll consider it whenever they consider themselves caught up. Joel said he predicted they wouldn't be far behind Japan within three years, and there was a small delay after he said that so maybe we could see dubs of some of the older extras around 2020?

That's an optimistic outlook anyway. Honestly my heart won't be broken if movies 1-7, 9 & 11 never get dubbed because so many of them were hit and miss and Funimation has been so good about dubbing the movies that Oda has supervised I don't feel like it would be a big loss. The TV specials however I really hope they consider dubbing and Heart of Gold gives me hope for them. Don't misunderstand though, I'll buy any and all of these things if Funimation dubs them, especially if they go the DBZ route and do movie collections.

Man, I want them all in a combo pack or two. That'd be great. But instead they'll just release one or two here and there individually.

3D2Y, Nebulandia, Ep of Nami, Ep of Luffy would all be great (though I've only ever seen Ep of Nami). And obviously Baron (movie six) tops the cake.

Damn, I was worried I hadn't heard any news on the 4th/5th voyages and now I know there are delays. :sad:

Started watching the dub with my 6yo and it's taken us a little over 12 months to reach MarineFord.

At our current pace we'll be finished Fishman Island by Easter, but it doesn't sound as though the dub will be ready by then. :sad:

Looks like we may need to slow down to weekly episodes from the start of the timeskip. That means it will take us the entirety of 2018 to reach Punk Hazard!! That should buy us some time until Season 10 comes!!

We can at least progress with the digitally colored manga scans. The translation of that is already one third into Dressrosa

Oh, gosh. I forgot about that headache. Who the hell knows what the hold up is. Wish there was a way to ask Funimation and have them actually answer? Can someone tweet them? I don't have Twitter.

I marathoned the flashback episodes. Otohime drunk on a loud speaker was the best part of the arc, imo. I was way more sympathetic to her death than Tiger's. My girlfriend was pissed when it happened because literally her first scene was about dodging bullets. Maybe Otohime has to be paying attention to dodge the bullet? The fire and emotional loss of the papers distracted her observation haki? That was my part-b/s answer to how she died.

Here's to making those last six or so episodes last three months… Madman rationing over here. I assume Hody's voice doesn't change at all when he hulks out, does it?

It's actually my daughter and she's been watching PG-13 rated movies with us like the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe collection, etc. so One Piece doesn't come across as violent in comparison.

I still skip the blatant curse words in the scanlation, but she already knows most of them and understands not to use them.

My nephews 10 and I've also got him into the series, but he's a purest and will only read the b&w manga in physical books, lol. Crazy huh? So far he's only at vol.12.
