they don't call him "Hordy" though do they??
Its what they went with for the simulcast and its what they used in the DVD description on their site, so…

I only watched four episodes so far. My marathon was interrupted by family stuff. lol
I'm gonna try to watch one or two more tonight after I get some food, and I'll finish it off tomorrow afternoon.
I haven't heard Caribou and Coribou's Japanese voices in a long time, but from what I remember, these English voices are quite on point. I never really cared for them as characters, though.
Something I found interesting is that 517 and 518 of the Funimation dub use footage from the 1st broadcast of We Go, and then from 519 onward it's 4th version. I'm surprised Funi were even provided with the 1st version because of the animation inconsistencies and amount of time Toei took to flesh it out:

There were four versions of We Go!?
The set uses both versions of the new opening. Episodes 517 and 518 use the alternate version, which has images of the Straw Hats training, and misspells Usopp. The rest of the set uses the opening footage we're used to.
Well, that's unfortunate. I was hoping it would stay as is.
Ian Sinclair sings all of Soul King's songs quite well.
Interestingly, the episode that features a younger Roger, there's no voice credit for Roger at all. Not sure if he had the same voice or not. Probably did.
Episode 519 commentary features Mike McFarland (WELCOME BACK!!), Chris Sabat, Brina Palencia, and Eric Vale. They talk a bit about the test dub they did for One Piece, way back even before 4Kids! picked it up. Eric Vale voiced Luffy, and Chris Sabat voiced Helmeppo. They unfortunately don't provide examples of those voices.
That's all for disc one. I'll jump into disc two after lunch. ^^
There were four versions of We Go!?
Yeah. I had no idea either, despite watching these subbed episodes years ago. Surprisingly, I actually like the first best. The Luffy running montage is more interesting to me than the random sea battle.
I got Season 9, Voyage 1 and I'm beginning to watch it.
Does Joel direct anything on this set?
Does Joel direct anything on this set?
No. It's all Mike.
I'm on the last episode now. All of the new characters are on point. I'm greatly enjoying re-watching Fishman Island in English.
I will say this that I'm enjoying the dub of these episodes a lot more then when I originally saw them. I'm really liking Caribou dub voice, it fits the character perfectly.
Additional new voices:
Wadatsumi - Trina Nishimura
Vander Decken - Jim Foronda
Surume (Kraken) - Josh Grelle
Hordy Jones - Larry Brantley
Hammond - Jay Hickman
Hyouzou - Dave Woodard
Kasagon - Dallas Reid
Ishilly - Megan Emerick
Fukaboshi - Jarrod Greene
Ryuboshi - Alex Ross
Mamboshi - Troy Hughes
The Medaka Mermaid Quintuplets keep their Japanese names, so the pun is sort of lost. Not sure how I would prefer to handle that, but they're not important anyway. Usopp just screams, " Wait, why are there two Yonkas?!" Instead of, "Why can't it be Goka?"
There's an error in the on-screen English text that now replaces the Japanese text boxes. When the three Neptune sons are introduced, the English boxes list Ryuboshi AND Mamboshi as the second sons. Also, Mamboshi for some reason is in all caps.
First Son - Fukaboshi
(shark merman)
Second Son - Ryuboshi
(oarfish merman)
Second Son - MAMBOSHI
(moonfish merman)
The first episode title for the next set will be:
"The Fishman Island Annihilated?! Sharley's Prophecy!"
Episode 526 commentary features Mike McFarland, Sonny Strait, Ian Sinclair, and Jim Foronda. Ian Sinclair says that Cho has a similar singing range to him.
Overall, everyone sounds great. Some of the new characters don't have many lines on this set, but they all sound good.
Hm. Caribou was not what I was expecting (thought it would be higher), but it's distinctive enough that I'll get used to it.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also, I'm rarely the one to request ramping up in One Piece, but the laugh isn't as great as the Japanese one.
Just curious, do any major brick and mortar retailers sell new volumes when they're released
I've seen them at Best Buy before. Someone also saw Film Z at Walmart.
Please tell me the Fake Strawhats have all their voice actors jumbled up like in Japanese?!
Please tell me the Fake Strawhats have all their voice actors jumbled up like in Japanese?!
Yep, they did that in the dub.
I was pleased with all the new voices, even the fake Straw Hats. Caribou and Decken sounded different from what I imagined but I can get used to them. I also completely forgot that Bellamy and Decken shared the same voice actor in the Japanese version.
The majority of the episodes this set were well paced aside from one or two long recaps. The last couple episodes were headed toward the pretty bad pacing we got in Fishman Island unfortunately, and though I do enjoy the arc, I admit I enjoyed the first disc more than the last few episodes on the second disc.
Any guesses on who voices the Medaka Mermaid Quintuplets? They weren't credited so…
Just finished Season 9, Voyage 1. I really enjoy the episodes from what I heard so far of Hordy and Vander Drecken they both sounds really good in my opinion. Like I said before I'm enjoying watching these episodes a lot more with the dub then I watch these episodes originally.

Yes, Mike McFarland followed the Japanese dub as far as which Straw Hat voices which fake Straw Hat.
This week on the One Piece podcast they had an interview with the voice of Jimbei, Daniel Baugh:

It's good to hear that they are starting to work on Punk Hazard. Since Punk Hazard is one of my favorite arcs.
Totally awesome. This means we should see the release of Punk Hazard some time next year without having to wait too long hopefully.
I don't know… We knew they were working on Fishman Island long before the released it and we had that hiatus anyways.

Because of Film Gold and Heart of Gold and production still probably needed to wrap up on Voyage One's episodes by that time so those things caused the delay. So there probably won't be one inbetween Fishman Island and Punk Hazard
Punk Hazard might not be considered a new season. Maybe Season 10 will be the start of Dressrosa?
Any word if Punk Hazard will be the beginning of the One Piece TV series getting a bluray release in the states, since that's the first arc to get BD release in Japan?

I doubt we are going to get Punk Hazard and onward on bluray. Since the France release just finished Dressrosa on their dvd release, didn't got an bluray release of ether Punk Hazard and Dressrosa.

Oh that's a damn shame. Punk Hazard had some really great moments and gorgeous animation and would've been a great start for getting bluray. I'm legit bummed out. I'm already iffy on continuing to buy DVD since I enjoy BD better, but I guess we'll have to settle for continued slightly lesser quality.

Seriously? Fuck Toei! There's no excuse for that. Especially considering that we won't be there for about another year.
Blu-Ray would cost Funimation significantly more, it would be cool if they released them like the Log Collections. What's more odd is that Japan hasn't updated the Log Collections for blu-ray releases, it's still DVD right through to the end of Dressrosa. I think the biggest concerns are folks from Japan importing the American editions at a fraction of the cost.

Well considering that Kana Home Video (the French home video distributor for One Piece) haven't released Fairy Tail or Hunter X Hunter on Blu-ray despite there being Blu-rays for them here in North America, I wouldn't count it out just yet. Many countries don't even have Dragon Ball Z on Blu-ray but North America does and considering that Fairy Tail likely sells less than One Piece in the US, I'm sure that FUNi will opt for a Blu-ray release starting with Season 10 because they have been wanting to release it on Blu-ray for a while now I think

One can hope, but I wouldn't.

There also another problem when the collections are going to be coming out. At this rate right now, the last volume of Season 9 will be pair with the first volume season 10. Which won't make sense to do. Since Season 9 isn't out on bluray.
IMO: starting at PH bluray/dvd combo for the individual and collections charge a bit more (FT combo sets are $54.98 retail, OP dvd is $39.98) (Ft Collections sets are 54.98; OP Collections are $34.98) if one piece starts to release as a combo set I'd be willing to pay a few dollars more for added blus.
*Unless of course this is another thing Toei won't allow (no more dubbed intros and no! never! bluray)
The One Piece AX panel is on Tuesday, maybe we'll get some good info out of it
3D2Y's German release is coming this year (got postponed for a year).
I just don't see bluray happening at this point. It won't make sense to a half a collection to be dvd and the other half only being bluray. Since the first collection that would include Punk Hazard would have the last part of Fishman Island and at the moment its looking like Season 9 is going to be 5 volumes.
Here what the upcoming collections should be as well predictions to Season 10 and 11.
Collection 20: Episodes 469 - 491 (Season 8, Voyages 2 and 3)
Collection 21: Episodes 493 - 516 (Season 8, Voyages 4 and 5)
Collection 22: Episodes 517 - 540 (Season 9, Voyages 1 and 2)
Collection 23: Episodes 541, 543 - 564 (Season 9 Voyages 3 and 4)
Collection 24: Episodes 565 - 587 (Season 9, Voyage 5 and Season 10, Voyage 1)
Collection 25: Episodes 588 - 589, 591 - 614 (Season 10, Voyage 2 and Voyage 3)

Not sure if the same is applicable, but if you need an example: the original Dragon ball has never had a blu ray release, but "Z" has at least 2 ( and one for kai)
The dub of the first 2 episodes of voyage 2 (529-530) are available on Funi's site, giving us the intro to Neptune and the other members of the New Fishman Pirates
Morgan Berry is Sharley and Bruce Dubose is Neptune
Also, these episodes feature the return of Joel as the ADR Director
I've been rationing. What do folks think of Van der Decken's voice? I assume we've heard it by now.
So, today at 11:30-12 FUNi is having a One Piece specific panel at AX. Any hopes for an announcement of some kind? Movies perhaps? Blu-ray starting at Punk Hazard maybe?
Joel's back as director, and we already have our first English audio error. The preview at the end of episode 529 is missing Luffy reading the episode title at the end, as well as the usual Pirate King speech.
On fun notes, the English dub gets the first name drops for Charlotte Linlin and Doskoi Panda. The dub also calls Crimin Criminal, but I guess that's the intent.
Has the panel happened yet?
I'm not exactly sure why Mike directs the show in spurts because Joel could use an extended break because at this point, he's directed more episodes than Mike has

No he hasn't; Mike has directed about 50 more episodes than him
