I just saw Film Gold, and let me say it was fantastic. It may be my favorite One Piece movie to date, but that may just be the excitement of seeing it for the first time. I've been staying away from the forums lately to avoid any spoilers related to the movie, but it doesn't look like I missed anything on this thread.
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...

Relax guys. I think it's very reasonable to have a longer gap than usual between the time skip point in the series. They are probably taking time to organize things and plan things out for the second half of the series. Such as what approach they want to take with characters and contacting old voices that will need to return. And also recasting Black Beard which is going to take some time (even though he only has a few lines in Dressrosa, they probably want to take care of that sooner rather than later to find a worthy replacement that will live up to Cole Brown's work).
If the wait goes past 6 months then I'll start getting a bit more antsy about it. I'm hoping they are also working out plans for other movies and specials in the near future. I'd say it's about time.
-
the only way to make this easier if it is announced that they are dubbing the next One piece game and some One Piece specials like 3D2Y
-
sooo like when a new trailer or something for one piece comes out (or any new trailer for that matter) … i have no idea where to find that on FUNi's new website.
And you also use to, very easily, be able to find individual episodes of shows and sort the episodes added by most recent ... not anymore! I now see the now broad generic term "Shows" and you can sort that by date added (yay?), but it apparently doesn't work because nothing is changing
-

Any idea what game it will be?
-
No, it's just speculation.
-
Chris Cason, the voice of Pappagu, tweeted about their being a figure of Pappagu and considering that he has a rather prominent role in Fishman Island, he's likely been recording for the arc especially because Mike liked the tweet. He first recorded for Pappagu in 2014 so I doubt he just suddenly remembered him and looked up a figure, we should be seeing post timeskip stuff dubbed soon
-
One Piece is listed on the SimulDubs page on FUNi's website. Either this is an error or we're really getting a simuldub along with the DVDs which could be likely as Chris Rager could very well be helping out with directing the older episodes and Mike or Joel could be doing the simuldub

Nah. There would've been a big announcement. And the time displayed on the page I think you're looking at is the time of the simulcast. Don't get your hopes up.

They still had it listed under SimulDub but it's likely an error. A simuldub would be interesting though
-
Sure. It would at the very least stop us from falling behind. Not really sure if there are any negatives to it. Back when they were gauging interest, everyone just told them to focus on the DVD releases. Which was stupid because that assumes that they can't handle both at once. …yet they're dubbing how many shows at a time?
-
I know in the past I've seen One Piece listed among broadcast dubs with an asterisk denoting that it was in reference to the simulcast only, so it was probably just that.
I would not have a problem with a simulcast dub, because as Zephray noted the amount of content they're putting out shows that the workload would not diminish the quality or frequency of releases. But I'm a little worried on the logistics of it, considering that a few VAs are not in the Dallas area, Patrick Seitz most notably. I also recall that in one of the commentaries Mike noted that Jason Liebrecht is a part of an acting troupe where he goes away for several months at a time, and there might be other who become unavailable for similar reasons. However, I'm sure that can be worked around by having temporary re-casts for the simuldub release when necessary, which are rerecorded by the regular VAs for the DVD release.

To add on to that, the whole crunchy/Funimation partnership was to help lessen the load for them as well. So it's totally doable, even more so now.

No offense, but I think it's a little naive and optimistic to think that they'd rerecord lines for the DVD releases.
But I had completely forgotten to consider how they'd record weekly despite many of them not living there. That's tough. No idea how they'd fix that. Outside of shipping a really nice recording microphone and directing them via internet. Which sounds like a pain.

Dragon Ball Super was also mistakenly listed as a SimulDub title.
-
I'm predicting that they're changing the logo and possibly rebranding it as a new series like "One Piece: New World".

I really hope they don't do that.

That would be pointless. That would imply it wouldn't be difficult for newcomers to jump into the series post-timeskip, when there's a plethora of established lore that would make episode 517 and beyond confusing to anyone who didn't watch the first half.
There's a reason why Toei Animation didn't split the story into two series, like with Dragon Ball -> Dragon Ball Z or Naruto -> Naruto Shippuden.

My reasoning is that it would give them an excuse to stop editing the gold logo animations. That Dressrosa eyecatcher with all the letters bouncing around is gonna be a nightmare.
-

They're never going to do that. And changing the logo again would still need the editing for logo animations anyway…the backlash to doing that would be immense and they know that.

Something like this (rough mockup):
…would take a lot less effort than this (credit to UnknowinglyEdible on Youtube):
The "new" logo would be closer to the original, and we get to keep cool animated bits. Why wouldn't fans like that?

You're working under the assumption that it's a giant pain in the ass for them to fix these things, and they're looking for some way to stop having to do it. That all seems unfounded and random.
But then, VIZ did add a fucking subtitle to the manga volumes, so…

The logo, while closer to the original, is still a different logo from the original that would end up having to be animated and manipulated as one image the same way… Unless you're thinking of them leaving all the original animation in and then fading in this new logo on top of the original. Though that would be rather odd and inconsistent like on Opening 5, albeit slightly less so. What's even weirder is the entire logo of the series for the dub and the name changing entirely for such a small reason. I mean, FUNi taking it upon themselves to change the branding of the entire show just sounds kinda silly and pointless.

Don't know if my mad rationing skills are going to last. A new set better be announced on the 15th. Or at least Heart of Gold.

They recorded two versions during the initial TV run and then fixed lines on the DVD later. Why are you so sure they wouldn't do that?
-
I wonder if there will be any rerecords or other changes for Film Gold's Bluray release.
-

It just doesn't sound like something they'd do. Recast a character and only use that voice actor for the simuldub, then bring in the original actor to rerecord all the lines for the DVD release? Just sounds like an unnecessary expense. The "uncut" lines you're talking about are entirely different and less costly: the actors were already hired for the part and in the studio recording. They just had to do one alternate take for a line or two here and there. And there really weren't that many of them. This is rerecording a whole character with a new actor; it would be strange as hell to have one version played by one actor and another played by another. Just odd.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Especially considering that we're talking about Franky, whose voice actor lives elsewhere. Recasting a straw hat for the simildub? Will never happen.
-
Reading through the last couple of pages, I must say while it's true there's no way they'll change the logo, I could see them changing up the box art design a little bit. Shucks maybe even switch over to DVD/BluRay combo packs?
I can dream can't I? Haha
-
I doubt we get an dvd/bluray combo pack for the series. Since most of the other countries that release the series are only releasing One Piece tv series on dvd only. The French release of the series, which is already up to near the end of Dressrosa, their release of the tv series is dvd only as well.
-
I remember there's a certain point at which we can start to expect blurays, but I can't remember when that is. Anyone?
And, yeah, I wouldn't mind if they changed the boxart.
-
Blurays starts during Punk Hazard. I still doubt we get blurays for the tv series, since there are other countries that aren't getting the tv series on bluray at this point. Like I said before France on their dvd release are already near the end of Dressrosa and they aren't getting a bluray release of those episodes.
-
Doubtful for sure, though I definitely wouldn't put it past Funimation especially since they know this is a pretty iconic time for the series and probably their only chance to start doing it. If nothing else at least they've been good about giving us Blurays and combo packs of the movies. I'll just be happy when we get a S9V1 announcement in general at this point.
-
Yeah, I see the movies to continue to be release on bluray. Since they already have release The Desert Princess and The Pirates: Adventure in Alabasta, Strong World, and Z on bluray. At this point I just don't see the tv series will be release on bluray especially since there are other countries that are already past Punk Hazard point on the dvd release and they aren't releasing it bluray.
-
Thought the announcement would be today. Isn't it usually on Tuesdays?
-

Nah, it has more so to do with the date (from 14th to 17th of the month) than the day. Last month, slate went up on Monday and it was Thursday for the March one.

One Piece Film: Gold and Heart of Gold have been announced for release in May on Blu-ray and DVD but the links aren't up yet

Odd that they'd release both separately in the same month. Hopefully the new voyage will be out next month… Looking forward to Heart of Gold.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Aaaaand, the website went ahead and got rid of all the One Piece stuff except collection 19. Might not get them in May after all.
-
Looks to me as if they are still updating it but man, did them making the movie really pull that much time away from the recording or did Robin's voice actress pregnancy cause them to delay things
-

All the new stuff was taken down now. They clearly needed to fix those pages
-
Yeah, the pages will be put back up later
-
It seems to be back up since I clicked those links and they lead exactly to where they said they're linking to. Looks like Collection 19 is the only thing giving me a 404 error.
Edit: Also for those of you who do see the link, anyone notice how the Heart of Gold special has the original logo and not the Funi modified one?
-
The collection is up now too. Whitebeard gets the cover.
Happy with the covers for the gold films. Can't wait for the special, since I've already seen Film Gold twice and can't rewatch it with my girlfriend.
It's been a while since I watch heart of gold. Wasn't really any spoilers in it, right?
-
Does any one know if you can use multiple cards (like Visa ones) on FUNi's site? I want to pre order Film Gold and Heart of Gold

FINALLY! Something new, I was hoping for a voyage but I'll take anything. I was hoping they dubbed more than just the tv special we heard about though, I was thinking they would release a few of them together. Guess this one will have to sell as well as the voyages if we want more. Excited to finally watch film gold, I skipped out on the theatrical release so I can watch it on my big screen at home.
But man, I'll be so disappointed if season 9 doesn't start in June at this point. Enough waiting.
-
Edit: Also for those of you who do see the link, anyone notice how the Heart of Gold special has the original logo and not the Funi modified one?
Yeah, just saw it. Not sure what to make of it though. It's releasing in May so box art could get updated before it is actually relased, even though the pics there look really final to me.
-
Wow finally we are getting something, I've been waiting for this.
Covers for the sets look awesome especially collection 19. I'm disappointed a lil bit, why can't we get a nice limited edition package with some extras for the Film gold
-
Gah! Heart of Gold and Film Gold are so far away. But at least we have a release date.
I'm a little disappointed there isn't a limited combo package with both Film Gold and HoG. On the bright side, it's three One Piece releases in one month.
Hopefully, they keep this momentum and drop Season 9 in June and speed through Fishman Island. -
Yeah, I was hoping for a combo pack, too. Or at least some sort of LE.
I'm shooting for two voyages released in one month; June. Haha. Gotta make up for that lost time.
-
I doubt we will be getting two voyages in one month. Good to see Film Gold is coming out soon.
-
It happened before with the Amazon thing, but I'll try not to get my hopes up too much.
