One Piece Holiday Release Schedule

I believe there is normally a thread devoted to the intermittent One Piece manga release that's typical around this time of year, but I haven't seen one, so I thought I'd take the initiative to put one together. We also posted an article on this with some more detail. All dates are for the official English/Japanese Weekly Shonen Jump release.

December 7th: WSJ Issue #1 - One Piece Chapter 809
December 14th: WSJ Issue #2 - No One Piece Chapter
December 21st: WSJ Issue #3-4 - One Piece Chapter 810
December 28th: No Weekly Shonen Jump or One Piece January 4th: WSJ Issue #5-6 - One Piece Chapter 811
January 11th: No Weekly Shonen Jump or One Piece January 18th: WSJ Issue #7 - One Piece Chapter 812

After Chapter 812, things should return to normal. For those looking for the unofficial scanlated releases there has been a recent crackdown on those illegally obtaining and posting the manga, so you may have to wait longer than you're used to.

Or, you know, this happens every year and the anime sometimes goes at a less than a 1:1 pace precisely because of anticipating Oda's and Shonen Jump's breaks. Not to mention that there are two specials later this month that will help provide a small buffer.

Oh yeah, and if Toei has any sense they'll insert a filler arc before Zou so it shouldn't matter than much anyway.

The specials don't air during the normal anime timeslot, so they don't help with the buffer.

The annual one episode New Years break for the anime will though.

Oh yeah, and if Toei has any sense they'll insert a filler arc before Zou so it shouldn't matter than much anyway.

Hopefully. At the very least, a 4 episode movie filler arc is expected.

Not surprised at the schedule, there tends to be a lot of magazine breaks when it comes to the New Year. Hopefully they will insert filler episodes into the anime after Dressrosa.

No, they obtain the magazines illegally early and then post them onto computers for translators.

The first January chapter always comes super early after Christmas because of earlier shipping. In return, we'll be waiting 3 weeks for the next chapter, instead of 2.

I must sound like a total noob, because I always thought that the translators were fans and they would scan the chapter after its official release. So I always assumed "If they release it on Monday, the fantranslation would be the following thursday" and not "the official release is on Monday and the mafia translation is the preceding thursday".

Scanslations will hit in the next few days, yes. Likely on Thursday night/Friday morning.
