I know, I was talking about my own preference. For me getting a shiny is like getting a rare collectible; I want it in mint condition =P

I don't need an intermediate step for the Salandit though; Magikarp works fine. All I do is when I hatch a shiny, I count how many eggs it was since saving (I do intervals of 30). Let's say egg 19 was shiny. I will reload my save, collect 18 Magikarp eggs, then withdraw Magikarp and save. Now I can replace Magikarp with anything and the very first egg I take will be shiny. So if it was a female Magikarp, there is a 1/4 chance it would be a female Salandit and I can just swap one in and test it. If it's a male, or if the Salandit still comes out male, I just swap something else to make shiny. I test for desired abilities in the same way. It's like an extra 30 seconds to check per mon.

The problem with that is that developing a perfect parent for the Togepi line is significantly more annoying, given that Togepi that hatch count as baby pokemon and as a result are unable to breed, meaning he'd have to happiness evolve togepi babies until obtaining an ideal parent.

As for competitive shinies, even though I don't actually battle much I like the ability to be able to have competitive pokemon so that if I want to make the choice to battle with my pokemon the option is there already. If there's a shiny I really like (ninetales, ampharos) it's really nice to be able to use it and make it as perfect as I can.

togepi line is just there to check if the pokemon that hatched is female. Since he is swap breeding its just a check to see if the roll gives you that 12.5%female. i believe he is breeding with a ditto so it shouldnt matter to get that perfect pokemon as long as you can tell which ivs from each parent pass down.

Foolio since you are using swap breeding quite a lot i have couple of question if you can help me. do you hatch the eggs while you collect them or you just collect all the eggs take the parent out and then hatch them all?

Combee was the one I used, fast hatch, had HA, and the gender ratio for rare and sought lines. I like the shotgun method better, but now with the IV checker, a perfect mon and a 0 mon couple would make this trivial.

Combee still takes 3 times longer to hatch than Magikarp. There is literally no way you can save time by using a different parent. Saving yourself ONE egg hatch for gender odds verification is pointless.

My Magikarp has HA as well for the record, so I can tell that off the bat. But if it inherits a normal ability I can't always be sure which of the two ability rolls I'd get on something else so I have to check. IV inheritance is the last thing I'll consider if I absolutely need it as a deciding factor.

Having a perfect parent means that in the off-chance he doesn't get the female one the shiny can still be viable and solid, which I believe is the approach he does anyway.

And bottom line is that Magikarp is just ridiculously faster, about twice as fast as Togepi. Which, when you are hatching eggs in the 30s over and over again becomes a significant amount of time, much larger than the time it takes to check if the salandit will come out female or not.

The latter. It's far too easy to lose count of what egg I'm on if I'm simultaneously collecting and hatching, plus the extra menu time spent placing a new egg directly into my party is annoying. Also, taking the parent out after collecting eggs guarantees you won't save when a new egg is already waiting, because if that one is shiny then you're screwed. And when I first tried this method I did hatch a shiny on the very first egg of one of my cycles, so I'm so not taking that chance.

That said I save in cycles of 30 eggs but I will collect and hatch 15 at a time, because it would be a waste to collect 30 eggs if the shiny is in the first few. I just don't save (or withdraw the parent) after the first 15.

On another note I have two extra shiny 6-IV Dittos that I snagged on GTS just for the items being traded on them. They are both Adamant and ENG region so I don't need them. If anyone wants them I'll gladly give them away. I don't need anything ridiculous but I welcome ideal parents or shinies. Or rare items. I'll even throw in a Destiny Knot.

The new SOS system is no doubt FAR better than Dexnav. Yesterday I obtained a shiny Grubbin after chaining around 50 or so, and I thought I wouldn't have such a luck ever again…

How wrong I was. Just now, after chaining only 30 encounters or so, I've got my hands on a shiny Bounsweet, with 3 max IVs, beneficial nature and HA. And mind you, I still don't have the Shiny Charm.

Maybe I should try this out more often, because it gives good results.

And there are not much ways to grind effectively besides repeating the Poke League.

It's pretty fast if you have a level 5 Rare Kitchen. Or multiple Rare Kitchens if you're impatient. If you're talking Tapus and UBs then they're already like level 60+ so yeah you might have to do the league a few times but for the most part it's really quick. And bottle caps are so easy to get now. I have like 58 of them, more than I'll probably ever use. Speaking of which last night I won a gold cap from a 4-star lottery. First time I ever get the top prize.

Anyway I've raised about a dozen different pokémon to 100 already, all over the course of a few days. And all from level 1 (because I'm really not that into using broken-ass legendaries). And I'm still in the process of churning out a few last shinies that I want, after which I'll have another 10+ to raise to 100. Not even for hyper training because a lot of them have perfect IVs already, but just because I want them at 100.

That's exacty why you could look it up, because you're not familiar with how it works. Plus based on what you said, I don't know if you've actually used Island Scan. But your misconceptions are larger than that lol

• The pokedex only includes things catchable in the game
• Scanning a QR code does not count toward pokedex completion
• Scanning a QR code is not Island Scan. Island scan is where after scanning 10 things you can trigger an "event" where you can catch a non-Alola pokemon
• Island Scan pokemon that you catch don't even matter for pokedex completion since they're not in the Alola pokedex

I scanned one QR code to get the appearance of a shiny Litten, so point #2 I knew of. Points #1 and #3 I looked up, so thank you for elaborating a bit more. As for point #4…well! Remember when you posted that you finished "the dex"? At the time, I mistakenly thought you meant all 700+.

That's why I was so puzzled, because at that time, Bank was not out yet. Having no national dex has added to my confusion here XD

So apparently the pokébank update happened. Especially given how everyone and their mother on GTS is asking for ridiculous stuff. Now I just need someone to trade me Spiritomb/Dusknoir so I can use them to get Pursuit as an egg move.

So I transported my live dex from Pokémon Y over to Pokémon Sun, looked on the GTS for those last few trades like Cosmog and Silvally to complete it again when I noticed that I couldn't find my in-game team anywhere. I used the box search function, checked whether I inadvertently put them into Pokémon Bank but nothing, not a trace.

…until I remembered Pokémon Pelago exists, that I left them on the EV training island a few weeks ago and forgot to pick them up again. Phew, certainly had a little heart attack there.

The update was for the bank not the game, there is a National Dex in the Pokebank and it includes Alola.

Apparently when you try to transfer Missing No it shifts all the Pokemons names around.
