Keep in mind those are pre-sketches, if legit. We don't know if they have made any remarkable changes for the final designs since then. And if the leak is true and the Alola starters and Rockruff have multiple forms, types and movesets variations when evolving, then there's gonna be a lot to choose. So I'm sure at least one form will appeal to any of you.
Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest

Where is this leak? All I see is the oicture with the green girl and the sleeping cat.
This picture, which, came with the information about Pokemon Alola Forms, Saladit (the poison/fire salamander Pokemon), no Gyms (confirmed with the Trial/Kahuna system being implemented), Z-Moves/Z-Powers etc. etc. Well… The Chinese leaked confirmed it, basically.

Thanks! The Popplio looks great! :D Can't wait to get a male one. Hehe

i hope the rumor of The Starters having Evolutions that differ based on the time of day is true

It most likely is. Afterall, the new gen is about day and night.
-
Solrock and Lunatone better get something too. They're a freaking Sun and Moon.
-
hopefully, cause i feel the Final Evo of Litten that looks like a Wrestler will have Good Attack & Defense Stats while a Alternate Final Evo could be a Sabertooth Tiger(That doesnt stand up) that excels in Speed & Special Stats.
plus i feel Gamefreak should take this:
!
And Make a Alolan Form Design that can appear postgame in BOTH Games.

Will the lonely stoner free his mind at night:ninja:?
-
Loving the new forms it makes me interested in older gen again. Poplio is miiine
-
If those final form leaks are real. The owl is badass, the cat is probably ANOTHER fighting/fire type (greattttt) and the water one is rule 34 bait.

Fire/dark, supposedly..

Siren Popplio is all that matters to me right now. Lots of people complaining about Lucha Tigre, but watch it be viable and suddenly everyone loves it. Not to mention that the mid Evo could still appeal to people and be viable via eviolite.
Given Popplio is a given I'm just waiting for a reliable grass. Bounsweet could have evo potential, and Lurantis looks super pretty but who knows if it will hold up. Salandit is an easy choice for a Fire pokemon.
I don't buy it. Design is always king when it comes to pokemon popularity, it's why Charizard has remained so beloved all these years when it hadn't been viable since gen 3. People will use it if it's viable, but those who don't like it won't like it.
-
If those are the final evolutions, poplio is definitely my starter.

People operate in different ways. Some will choose based on design and then grow to like it from that, it's also possible that something that initially doesn't seem appealing grows on someone after using it in the game or competitively. Lots of people develop favorite pokemon from trying out things they didn't expect to like and finding them to be awesome.
So I think in that sense saying Design is king is like saying looks are all that matters, which is just outright not universally true.

I doubt they'd make Alolan Legendaries. If the concept of Alolan forms is based on evolutionary adaptation, then it's probably not applicable to only-one-available type Pokemon.

I didn't say design was all that matters, I said it was king, which I still stand by. That's just to say it's generally the biggest deciding factor for most people on what they use or moreso, what they'll even try to use, in any given game. Definitely not the only factor, but I think it's by a lot the biggest. Proof is the recent list of most popular pokemon from Japan. The top were all either really cool looking, really cute, or iconic. I could be wrong, though.

If those designs are real, then Popplio suddenly got a lot better to me. Because that evolution is actually pretty cool. Still can't compete with mah boi Grass Owl though. (I DON'T CARE THAT HIS NAME IS ROWLET, TO ME HE WILL ALWAYS BE GRASS OWL.)
-
andre: You're still arguing for your subjective view on a subjective matter being the one that matters most, which is a silly discussion in the first place.
The ultimate point being made was that early reactions on lucha tigre still mean little in the long run when we still don't know how well-liked the pokemon will be. Back when greninja was leaked people here thought it looked super ugly and must be fake, but by the time the pokemon got to smash it was already super beloved. Designs grow on people and minds can change.
-
I think Greeninja was liked from the start, people were just mostly thrown off by the bubbles vanishing.
-
Admittedly I may be remembering the reaction to the first image leak which had terrible quality.
-
I definitely called fake on Greninja. As much as I enjoy the design now, it comes so out of nowhere for his line. His blue color goes darker, his shape becomes more angular, and the bubble motif is outright replaced with a tongue one. It's a weird evolution. It's not like weird evolutions are new to pokemon, but they're disappointing when people really like the previous forms.
As for ugly, I remember thinking that mostly in reaction to it being confirmed.
-

Well if we look at Mega Evos(and Primal Reversion) from Gen 6
Mewtwo
Rayquaza
Diancie
Latios
Latias
Kyogre
GroudonSo that's 7 Legendaries that are involved with Mega Evolution, so do you think Gamefreak may not try to do maybe 1 or 2 Alolan Form past gen Legendary to make people want to catch and use it more then you usually would.
-

Which made sense in first place, as frogs lose the bubbles that cover their bodies as they grow.
-
Most evolutions loses and gain things when they evolve. Others just get slightly bigger/beefy. It's always more interesting to me when it's the former because the latter is pret damned boring. Cat evolving into a slightly bigger cat for example. Like yawn
-
People are saying Greninja looked different from Froakie, but aren't y'all forgetting Chespin to Chesnaught? He basically went from a cute brown Pokemon to a jacked white Digimon.
-

And that's why Chesnaught is one of my favorite grass starter final evolutions next to Torterra and Sceptile (although I prefer Grovyle).

The white is actually an "armor", Chestnaught is basically an armor knight.

Mega Evolutions aren't based on real world evolution though. They're more a change in an individual due to a strong bond with it's trainer.
Alolan forms were brought about through generations of change and adaptation, which works for the more common species like Ninetales, but not for unique Legendaries which don't appear to be able to breed. -

Chespin developed a really weird off looking second form. Him changing drastically and adding armor wasn't a surprise. Froakie losing one of the attributes both of his first two forms had was more surprising.
-
All of Chespin's forms are armored, Chespin has his helmet, after all

It's makes sense and works for the design but it still a bit of a jump. From cute bubbles to majestic bubbles to tongue scarf. It still wierds me out a bit.

I always like to think that the tongue licks the bubbles away.
-
I like to think the bubbles just naturally disappeared and Greninja just doesn't feel comfortable with its nape exposed so it substitutes them with its tongue.
-
And this is why I picked Fennekin.
-
I am always creeped out by those characters with HUGE tongues used for attack and to grab things. Like Orochimaru holding Naruto up with his tongue. I can only think he is tasting Naruto… the Naruto that has been wandering in a forest for 1 day, without bath, in those obviously too hot clothes, all covered in dirt and sweat. Orochimaru doesn't seem to give a fuck, but the taste must be terrible.

You just gotta think about it in the context of squirtle and wartortle going from having tails to suddenly having those replaced with fucking cannons.
-

Greninja is my favourite of the 3. He looks awesome and his hidden ability is just amazing.
-

Ear hair is almost as creepy as tongue fashion so I went with jugger-nut.

True. All wildlife should grow cannons. What a world that would be.

It makes even less sense that it isn't a steel types with those steel bazookas.

Maybe, those cannons aren't made of steel at all, but are instead made of keratin, the same protein that makes up our hair and nails.

They look metallic though.
-
Pokedex entries and appearances between forms are usually pretty good and explaining things that change or expand between evo forms. But Squirtle's line is one that always confused me. Wartortle atleast has some meta inspiration behind it. But Blastiose… Well.. It's a changes from turtle to a shellfish. Gets mobility jets in the form of cannons. Ehh. Cool idea, but it feels off. It's most likely designed to look cool on promo art more than anything.
-

Like how Sudowoodo resembles a tree.
Yes. Totally the same thing.

My head canon is that Wartortle loses the squirrel tail and changes it to a slightly squirrel like head and cannons.
-
honestly, charizard just kinda getting wings always bothered me
even as a wee bab -

The cannons don't bother me as much as the ears.

Gumshoos uses Wall!

Eventually I will do a Nuzlocke of Pokémon Moon. It will be the adventures of the inexplicably female Vegy the Sixth ("Inexplicable" because the past five have all been male) and her beloved Grass Owl. If she ever runs into a Yungoos she will name it Trump and proceed to ditch it worse than Team Four Star does in their runs with 'mons they don't like. Surely she will make an entirely separate PC-box JUST for Trump.
…That is, unless Donald Trump the Pokémon actually turns out to be super useful. But his design sure makes him seem very unlikable.
