Back when that chapter came out the accepted theory was that Oda was referencing the chinese naming taboo culture.
So the D. was name they did not reveal to others, and Water was a "publicly" known name but one that shouldn't be used much.

Why Oda decided to use such naming convencion only for Law remains a mistery, could just be that he wanted to use the WaterLaw/Waterloo pun or he could actually be hinting at some more family story for Law.

Cool that it was talked about here. On OJ, people thought it didn't matter when this came out

Toki does not originate from Wano. That was where the whole idea came from. She has time powers, and she clearly has more to do in the story than to just transport 5 samurai to the future. Its not an "extremely circumstantial" theory. Its just a fucking theory lmao.

Greg any reason Oda changed Roger's design this much ? From hat, to clothes.

Not sure if he changed it insomuch as this could possibly be simply a different look for him. Sometimes Oda doesn't get to draw what he wants to he adds instead of taking away.

However, if it is intended to be a full alteration, cough it up to him liking a certain design better or feeling it overlapped with something else. I have a feeling that's why he changed Zoro's eye. Cuz Rayleigh…lol

Most of the Straw Hats get at least a small outfit change every major arc. Why can't Gol D Roger have worn two different outfits in his lifetime?

Yup, people usually have a bunch of clothes. At least three outfits. Even if In winter they only show the one good jacket.

Design change implies something that can’t be changed back after one bath.

This is the real conversation I'm looking for, considering Jinbei just got an outfit change. The kimono itself resembles his original outfit but in terms of the "uncolored" manga look, it is completely opposite color scheme. Plus, he has a cloak with a pattern on it now. Oda or Jinbei is expanding his look. I'm hoping the black kimono turns out to be purple.

Then Oda started experimenting a bit and gave him recolors. Like that awful orange vest with red shorts in Thriller Bark.

It's only now that Luffy gets consistent outfit changes.

Drum had the jacket, alabasta the desert protection and Skype a THE OPEN VEST.

Goku had a variety of gis as well, blue one to red/orange kame school one, mixing them both until the growth spur to the kami ones, then the symbol less one, only counting “arc” clothes, not the yardrat clothes or civilian clothes.

I am still tired of the fishman island clothes being used in all promotional material.

I am happy the site got back! By the way i really hope that Franky will come back to feel like a 'human character' again,more than a silly robot. Comparing the Water 7 Franky with the current Franky its like seeing two different characters.

I felt like Franky was showing off during the reunion at Saboady but after that he seemed his old self. Anything in particular you didn’t like?

I dont know,maybe its just his post-timeskip design that i dont like. Sometimes Franky makes cool stuff too,i just liked his previous style better.

Water 7 and Enies Lobby were Franky's time in the spotlight. Of course his character and personality got to stand out as he was not a part of the straw-hats but was an enemy leader turned ally with a wacky design and personality. He still got to do some stuff in Thriller Bark but post timeskip the emphasis has been more on his inventions than himself.

Fishman Island he used Franky Shogun to fight so it didn't feel like Franky himself was fighting.

Punk Hazard he was body-swapped so didn't do much.

Dressrosa he fought Senor Pink but because it was a battle of wills they just did the exact same attack over and over, didn't really feel like a fight at all.

Wano he has just been working as a carpenter the entire time.

Yeah, I forgot, its been awhile.

But still, Franky Shogun doesn't feel like Franky at all to me. Don't get me wrong, it's cool and all, but he isn't risking his own life and slugging it out himself.

I do love Franky and both his pre and post-timeskip designs, but outside of Luffy none of the Strawhats have had the win or die fights like they did pre-timeskip.

Totally agreeing. Franky's design pre skip was much better. Same goes for Chopper

Franky's hair was a big part of his look/personality. Remember back in Enies Lobby when his hair was fallen and floppy until he drank cola. When Chopper gave him vegetable juice and green tea his hair changed into other shapes.

Then, post-timeskip he shows up with a buzz-cut and of course it didn't feel like Franky at all. Going back to original Franky-style hair for Fishman island was 1000x better than buzz-cut.

I think Oda wants to play with the fact he can change his hair and changes it for each arc or place that they are. The fact is he completely threw that old gag of his out the window of his hair being dependent on having a steady supply of cola.

I like the current gag of his hair style changing to things based around his current situation. Like a whale on zou or recently in wano to a hammer when building ships.

Do you guys have any suggestions on which episode to listen to? A personal favorite or one with some nice info casual fans might have missed?

I just listened to the newest one today but I'd like to hear your opinions on which to prioritize

Try the "Great one piece readthrough" episodes. They go through the series arc by arc and give their thoughts. I think it would be a good way to meet the hosts and regulars, and they also have some pretty good guests on those episodes.

OP Magazine 9 is ridiculously cool. If this came out in 2011 I would have absolutely lost my stuff.

I can't post pics etc. because it's before the street date but a number of Oda's storyline design images from the past have been revealed and some of differences between them and the final products are just mind-blowing. Take for example that 'Gold Lion' (aka Shiki) was originally intended to be one of the three Admirals during the Ohara flashback. Whaaaaaaaat!?

The color is there but what's interesting is that it's the first sign of ignoring the Momotaro connection with the admirals! I never even considered that!

I wonder if any aspects of Admiral Shiki found their way into Sengoku. We've never learned what codename he had in his admiral days (I think it's a pretty safe guess he was one at some point as he climbed the ladder to fleet admiral) but the use of gold in his epithet is pretty telling.

When will that podcast be available ? I personally think he’ll be a big part of the last 2 acts, no other reason to bring up such thing now. Maybe he’ll even be a reason for Kaidos loss this arc

I wonder if Kaido could have had his son with Orochi. We don't currently know if there's any remaining Kurozumi aside from Orochi and Kanjuro, or who would take the shogun throne if Orochi kicks the bucket. Orochi doesn't care about ruling the country and just wants to see it burn, but he does seem to care about the Kurozumi family to some extent at least. And the son would be an heir of both of Wano's current rulers.
