Ace got defeated by Whitebeard and became a commander of his, so maybe Oda could possibly have Kid change in such a way that Kid will become a commander for Shanks.

After all, Blackbeard going after Hancock and being interested in getting her power wasn't something that was easy to predict. And even if we had learned that he was interested in going after a Warlord, I'd say most would have predicted that it would have been Weevil because the Rocks stuff behind the scenes (Stussy and Whitebeard) and him declaring that he has to get revenge against Teach in his very introduction (chapter 802), or maybe even Buggy to use him as ransom against Shanks (lol).
Really curious to hear your input about all of this.

He was just in the manga a few chapters ago.

And I know he was in the 1050's a few times.
He's not forgotten at all, just people don't go crazy about the gag after 25 years. He still shows up every 15-20 chapters, sometimes for multiple chapters in a row.
Personally I'm bummed that we haven't seen Tomato Gang....

For anyone interested on the topic of Greg's new column, it goes over the 50 Mark 3 and their possible role in the arc, he makes a comparison to the usual allies the Straw Hats befriend, not sure if he's joking around, but Mohji and Kuma both have ear shaped hair, so maybe they are related, Nami discovering jewellery might help in slowing down Kizaru, cause of their physical property of refracting light/distorting them. Imagine 7 Kizarus showing up, cause the "white" light got split up.
Anyways glad to have his columns back, I think he mentioned that they are going to be released biweekly. Hope this is the start of it.
Hello! I've been selfishly enjoying spring break so please excuse my absence. A lot of questions were pitched at me and I'll try to get to them over the next week or two.
Yes! New column is up and YES this is the start of their return to a regular bi-weekly schedule. In fact, the next column is already undergoing approval and I'll be starting the NEXT one soon. I decided to start several chapters back because of all the break time coming up to try and make sure I don't catch up too quickly.

I've also wondered about this before. Granted, it's not unlikely that Smoker mentioned it to people back at HQ or having had to report it since Luffy escaped, so to justify it.
But I do like to picture the interaction between Dragon and Garp.
The relationship between Garp and Dragon seems like a super interesting one to explore. How did Dragon react to Garp defending Celestial Dragons in God Valley? What was the episode that made him create the Revolutionary Army. Seems like a duo in total opposition in terms of paths taken, but in agreement about the morals and ethics.
Say, Greg, do you think there are other models of the Fish-Fish Fruit, besides Kaido's?

No dumb questions! Oda is an avid mobile game gamer but afaik he observes console gaming via his team more than plays them himself because of work/life.

I think I was pondering out loud on Twitter or something that he might be a neat foil for Jimbei if Oda messes with density and CERTAINLY flammability. Of course, a similar argument would be made for Sanji with potential fire vs fire but we'll have to see.

I mean....I don't dislike the idea. They're a crew of DEEPLY dedicated individuals. To themselves, their crew, and their captain. They certainly have similar drives and at this point, many of them the confidence and resolve.
But if we're to follow the statistics that Oda provided way back, then....it does seem a bit much. Counterargument though is....they're the crew of the freaking (future) Pirate King so...ya never know.

Right! So, BB appearing at Wano depended a lot on Elbaf. My thought at the time was the basically what's happening at Egghead right now (Strawhats and Marines/WG colliding to make worldwide headlines) was going to occur at the end of Wano. If that happened, it may have had to involved BB and if it involved BB, it meant he (and his crew) had to display a phenomenal show of strength that changed the rules of the playing field. This was shown to us by IMU instead and it happened in a very different way from what I (still) believe will happen at Elbaf.
The question I wrestled with pre-Wano and through Wano was:
HOW DOES THIS END WITH BIG MOM IN PLAY?
That was the puzzle I was trying to solve the entire time and depending on how that played out, it meant a different stage for BB.

Well, if there are any other Fish-Fish fruits, while their animal forms would probably be pretty worthless, their hybrid forms, at least, could be like a Fishman.

I suppose it's possible based on all this that Blackbeard could try to coax what he believes to be the comatose bodies of Big Mom and Kaido out of the volcano by quaking them out in order to get their devil fruits, only for it to turn out they get re-energized in the process. Would be interesting to see how Blackbeard would deal with them in that situation.

I think Kaido is a dude to stand by his declarations, esp. ones to his crew so once Luffy beat him, it's very likely that he's the type who is comfortable accepting his role in history and watching what unfolds.

While Mom herself has been bested, she still has beef with the Strawhats unrelated to Wano so she could realistically pursue them. Esp. with the Pudding setup.
I do believe who Kid was looking for may have a role related to Elbaf and that may play into a...gathering...of sorts.
If that's the case, it sets the stage for what I originally believed:
Loki, Mom (Pirates), SHs, and BB at Elbaf.
That way we get a giant arc, Mom resolution, SH prog. and finally, the establishment (not resolution) of full-on BB v SHs.
CG is a wild card akin to the Seraphim and I dunno how they could weave in, but if the giant story isn't meaty by itself, they could be folded in as well.
That would be my ideal lead in to the true final 'arc'.

Loki becoming a more malevolent figure was due to the Christinization of Norse Paganism, like how Baldur basically became Jesus. He is indeed a trickster, and as a Jotnar, a figure of Chaos, but then, he's also a oath brother of Odin (Him being Odin's son and a brotherly rivalry with Thor is all Marvel) and helped Thor retrieve Mjolnir from Thyrm.

After your suggestions at how even Sanji could be a good matchup for Vasco, I would actually prefer that the Strawhats face different BB pirates first, before the final fight with their actual counterpart.
Ex: Sanji vs Vasco -> Sanji vs Burgess; Zoro vs Pizarro -> Zoro vs Shiryu; etc
I also think Kaidou is just convinced that Luffy is indeed Joyboy, so he'll just let the kid change the world and maybe, very very discretly, give a hand by defeating a couple of bad marines.

The God of War take on Loki and the rest of the northern myths was actually pretty good, imo. I recommend it.
But in the original myths, he is indeed the figure that starts Ragnarok, so it's easy for him to get a bad rep. And he was not a "god" like the rest of the pantheon, he wasn't an AEsir. He was a Giant, a Jotnar, like Johnny said. It's easier to blame the odd one out.
The brotherly side with Thor is from Marvel but there are a couple of stories where they go on "adventures" together. But then again Loki did interact with most of the Aesir gods.
I think the best way we'll know where Loki stands is if the Royal Family of Elbaf has Aesir names like Thor, Heimdall, Tyr, etc. Or Jotnar names like Suttingr, Bergelmir or Farbuti.

I recall Kaido always wanted to participate in the biggest war the world will have ever seen, so in the event Oda uses whatever excuse he can use to eventually bring him back, that would prob be one of the top reasons. If it turns out he’s satisfied now that someone has beat him, then that would likely make itself more clear as time goes on.

It doesn't necessarily make him weaker, and he absolutely might have a decisive/defining moment.
I'm just saying I don't think he's the type who will be on a laser-focused warpath to 'take revenge' on Luffy.

I reread and it says that Garp heard it 'said' by Dragon. Could be that Dragon said it to him or that he was overheard saying it.

Even by OP standards and the fact their selling point is their durability, I don't think I would be able to handle the two taking a magma bath without consequences. While I can see Big Mom for different reasons, I hope Kaido is done.

I have no issue with it and expect them to be unscathed by the magma. I think Oda has been pretty consistent about how the two of them have to be damaged in order to be defeated. It was stated that Big Mom can't be damaged by conventional weaponry without being under a state of extreme emotional duress (or hunger). Resisting magma doesn't hurt that logic imo, as long as she escapes before she gets hungry. . Same with Kaido. Strong Haki can pierce his skin and advanced COC can actually damage him. It doesn't feel like a stretch to me that he can survive in magma, especially since he's a dragon. I hope that both of them survive, though I don't know what their role will be.

I always had the impression magma was presented as a very destructive element in OP verse, if people are fine with two half-dead characters unable to defend themselves bathing in and tanking an eruption bigger than Onigashima itself or even expect it to happen because they were introduced as being very durable that’s fine too, I’m only speaking on my behalf.

The Law electricity attacks that actually hurt Big Mom are the ones that attack from within, like Shock Wille. Countershock only seemed to annoy her when he used it. The metal beams hurt, but it seemed mostly superficial imo. The blood she had on her body was from Shock Wille.

Was it? She was defeated because, as we learned later, she was down in the magma, but I don't think there's an implication about what happens after the explosion considering everything was silent. Notably (to me), that's how she was defeated. Not by hitting her extremely hard or knocking her out, but disabling her voice and sending her down into the sea and beyond.

Yeah, i don't really see the evidence that elemental damage is key to harming them as much as damaging them from the inside is.
Hey @Greg if possible I'd like to have your thoughts on where Aokiji's character is heading. This chapter seems to shot down the idea that he's a spy but I personally don't see him going down as an enemy (but maybe that's Oda's intention), his treatment is too different from other Teach's henchmen IMO.

He's the only other marine that hangs out with Garp with a captains coat. More so he did train Koby and helmeppo so it would make sense for him to tag along and help save Koby.
It also feels like kuzan wasn't originally planned to be the 10th captain.

Could be possible that Kuzan is being set-up to be “fired” by Blackbeard in the near future so as to replace him with someone more loyal to him, further solidifying the 11 vs. 11 in the process.
