When a series is without a doutb being rushed with the author not caring anymore, this is to be expected.
And yet, Toriko still delivers on certain departments, unlike say, hmm… Bleach?

The thing that upsets me about this chapter isn't the whole BS surrounding Star and Toriko being Froese's twins, or Toriko being more emotional over seeing his appetite than his long-lost brother and rival dying, or why God released only one of Toriko's 3 demons. I mean, that stuff is also stupid, but what really riles me up is how we were robbed of what should've been another epic moment in the story for the sake of getting a power-up for a boss fight that NOBODY has any reason to care about at this point. Namely, Toriko eating God. Y'know, the thing Toriko decided would be his main course since, like, over 200 chapters ago? The thing his boyfriend has been working on off-screen for months without a peep? The thing he was waiting to share with the other kings who still haven't been allowed to come back because "bbbbbbrrooooottttheeerrr" nonsense?
Just force fed without even an explanation of how it tastes, because even the main character's dreams and goals are being rushed for the sake of BOSS FIGHT POWER UP. It's like if Luffy got shunted to Raftel by his secret twin brother Smoker and got injected with the power of the One Piece so he could fight some unknown person who turned out to be behind the Void Century and created the Grand Line, and is also Luffy's mom somehow.

Best thing I read in a while… Kinda puts it into perspective for you. Toriko has become so outlandish you begin to forgive the randomly bizarre occurrences, but if you compare it to one piece... yeah it wouldn't fly.
Considering that she probably didn't mean to set them at sea that long, there's only one way to commemorate this chapter: with a good old-fashioned sea shanty.
Just sit right back and you'll read a tale
A tale with a quality drop.
It's getting to be quite tragic for
Shima don't know when to stop. The pacing started getting rough
Plotlines were just tossed
If not for the presence of side characters few,
interest would be lost.
Interest would be lost. But the Eight Kings are gone or chumped
and now we're just stuck
with Toriko
Midora too
Acacia and his "wife"
But now not Star
cause he's dead
here in Toriko's Threadddddd.

I actually would have gone with Roger turning out to be alive and evil as the final villain, and using his Pirate King legacy as a conspiracy in order to retrieve the Ancient Weapons and some type of treasure from the Ancient Kingdom to become invincible and all-powerful with nonstop power-ups that make the rest of the Yonko look like fodder. Oh, and Blackbeard dies after sacrificing himself to save Luffy and claiming that they were reincarnated brothers from the Ancient Kingdom era.
But yeah, God as a built-up accomplishment getting shafted is abysmal.

Because it's not taking itself seriously anymore. It's doing goofy outlandish nonsense like placenta in a boat for 500 years.
It's absolutely stupid, but so much so that it's hilarious.

Funny. I've been thinking my biggest problem with Toriko for the last few years is how seriously it's started taking itself.
[edit] Maybe more like a little over a year. Think the last "fun" segment was the fight with Bambina, and that's been about that long.
Torikos problem is that it eventually doubled down on the wrong aspects of its ridiculousness, namely [WORDS IN BRACKETS] for pages upon pages. Awesome scenarios are skipped in and the holes patched over with hastily spouted [WORDS IN BRACKETS]. Drama, never Torikos strongest aspect, is undermined at every turn by endless exposition of [WORDS IN BRACKETS] to explain how come Toriko is suddenly eating a manifestation of his appetite who is actually a reincarnated alien living inside his body and now brought out by the power of [Gourmet luck] and blah blah [BACK CHANNEL]
It's almost done the Star Wars/Midichlorian thing. We didn't need explanations of all this stuff. It was a lot more fun when it was just ridiculous and made sense in the universe's oddball internal logic.
And doubling down on personal stakes/drama isn't great for a series that was never especially good at that.
Funny. I've been thinking my biggest problem with Toriko for the last few years is how seriously it's started taking itself.
I mean more on a meta-level. The characters are certainly acting like things are serious, but with the constant absurd fast-forward, "then suddenly something else happened," plot device shenanigans going on it creates a massive narrative dissonance that's just funny.

I agree with this.
The first symptom was Food Immersion in the Bubble Fruit Arc.
I hate these concepts that can simply be thrown around, "activated", but have no kind of visible effect or viable explanation and [Food Immersion] was the first time that Toriko had done something like that. despite that, the Arc was pretty damn good. Then the Food Festival decided to make the Appetite Devils into physical creatures. And the entire subsequent explanation of that was just mind boggling.
I miss the times when Toriko had to find a way to cross a flesh slicing Waterfall in order to get a shining fish.
BUT WHAT´S THIS? A MOUNTAIN IS ALSO FALLING ON YOU!
Still my No.1 manga of all time followed closely by the new Kinnikuman!!
It's like watching a natural disaster unfold on TV. You know it's terrible, and you feel bad for the people involved, but at the same time there's an almost morbid fascination to keep watching!

Nah man, that was reading Naruto in its latest years.
Toriko doesnt take itself seriously enough to reach that stage. The series was always nonsensical but now that its rushed to its end its easier to perceive the author never had a story planed to go along all the silliness.
I mean, this is quite a stupid manga, but not the offensive stupid kind.

The part where the tournament and obtaining the rest of Acacia's Full Course was pretty much not in the plans. I don't think he would bother add the Yuda Flashback if he hadn't a viewpoint at least. Hell, Oda doesn't even know how he will make Luffy defeat Kaido yet.
Toriko: "This isnt even my final bullshit powerup"
I seriously think there will be a couple more. Somehow.
I seriously think there will be a couple more. Somehow.
He had two Gourmet Demons left for a reason. Honestly, I can see Shima pulling something like Toriko getting another power-up from God once it's fully cooked by Komatsu after the build-up that has had.
I'd just like to see Toriko explaining to friends and Rin everything that happened…Just him trying to casually mention that Starjun was his twin brother that Froze and Acacia were their parents and Acacia was horribly evil. That in order to get stronger he ate his own appetite.

Maybe it'll be similar to the idea pitching conversation that Shima had with his editors.
I like that the third demon is playing with Acacia's hand when Red gets eaten.
I would love it if somebody went through the trouble to count how many times people's hands/arms have been severed in this series.

Probably still less than arms getting cut off in Bleach.
Probably still less than arms getting cut off in Bleach.
But still probably more than the overall amount of limbs lost in One Piece.

At a guess, Toriko probably rates about 0.7 on the Obi-Wan Scale.

Who's lost arms in OP?
OP spoilers:
! Shanks Franky Kidd?

Shanks Franky Kidd?
I was counting limbs (arms and legs) in general. Which includes off the top of my head: Shanks, Franky, Kidd, Zeff, Kuzan, Kyros, Law (remember how it got cut off by Doffy).

Oh yeah. And if you add in Law's broken powers there's more lost limbs.

lol I forgot about Brownbeard's crew and the rest of his victims. That's so ironic of me.
Lots of One Piece spoilers, not nice folks..
I think that mentioning a manga like One Piece is only doing a favor to readers of a manga like Toriko. :ninja:

Yes, talking about One Piece makes perfect sense.

There was a comparison between toriko and the manga this entire site is based around. Don't be a smart ass.
Lots of One Piece spoilers, not nice folks..
1: the discussion is not referring to yet-to-be-released OP chapters
2: Its not referring to the most current chapter
3: Its not even referring to stuff thats happened in the manga this year.
4: This is a OP-based forum, and a shared familiarity with OP is thus to be expected, even in non-OP threads.

Some people are not through OP and are searching for place to discuss Toriko, whats so weird that I pointed out spoilering One Piece like listing all characters that lost limb etc.. Its not needed in Toriko discussion - why to list up stuff that has nothing to do with manga that is subject of this thread ? Spoiler tag isnt something super weird if we consider not all folks know One Piece up to date.

Are there too many people with an account in a OP forum that aren't up to One Piece?

Sorry but its pointless to explain if somebody doesnt understand it from get to go. One Piece explict spoilers imo should be at least a bit avoided in sections that doesnt connect to it, especially if it has nothing to do with Toriko manga.

You'd have to be like a year behind. But the listing characters was just trying to figure out if there's more characters in OP pr Toriko that have lost arms. Nothing is topping Bleach lol.
As far as spoilers go it's very not important info for OP. If it bothers you this badly I'll go spoiler my comments.
Should I go back and spoiler tag my posts about Pell in the Fairy Tail thread, from that one time Happy flew off with a bomb which exploded a point blank range, and didn't harm him at all?
Yes, spoilers for really big stuff should be handled with care, but "Law was without an arm for a few chapters" is hardly an "Ace dies" level bombshell. And no, I'm not gonna spoiler that, not any more than I will the fact that Aizen was an evil mastermind.
Toriko III: Arlong Park is an One Piece Forum.
Goku dies .
Next you'll be asking that we don't spoil you on the fate of Doflamingo's glasses
No Purple, what you don't spoil is the fate of Aizen's chair. There are few things sacred in this world but the one thing you must never do is talk about the chair unless someone has experienced for themselves. Speaking of which, that's one big con against both One Piece and Toriko, is they lack something as great as the chair.
! Doffy´s glasses are actually alive and living in Tupac´s house in the Caribbeans with Aizen´s Chair.
! Not quite from what I heard. I heard that the glasses are being worn by the true Soul King who sits on the throne. Brook just likes to sit on it and rock out for hours.
! So Brook was Ukitake´s Tatto thingy all along! That explains how his Devil Fruit Works (sorta) and why he never ascended to heaven.
! I just wanted to join the party
!
What powerups could acacia still hold? All that is left for him is kill the rest and eat the world rigth? He already had his full course. If he is out of transformations, then that's it.
! I don't get where this plot is going.
! GOD was cooked easier than ANOTHER? It definitely feels that way.
Acacia vs like a dozen good guys, of which several have shown to be capable of hurting him? With one known to possess further power-ups? Where's the tension?
! At the same time it does not feel like there could be another arc after this. A lot of the space arc build-up has been resolved already.
! At least Bambina is back.
