So…where did exactly Acacia Spanking hit?
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...
Toriko III: It's Over!!
-
-
It´s Zonge:
- We don´t know his real age. He might be older than what he looks because of his genes and whatever Froese ate while she had him.
- He´s in every single scene of danger, and always manages to overcome his shortcomings.
- We never actually saw him fight. He might be a lot stronger than what we think and we have no idea. Maybe he gets serious when in actual danger.
- He survives through every trial put ahead of him, just like Komatsu, who´s weak and defenceless when he doesn´t have Toriko around. That´s Food Luck if I ever saw it.
- The monkey King choose him as his waifu. Zonge must be really strong go take a pounding from that thing.
Zonge will be revealed as Acacia´s son and will have a role to play in his dismiss.
I actually think Star might be wrong and Toriko isn´t his brother.
Toriko´s real brother is Zonge. They were twins and no one knows. Toriko and Zonge will fuse into Tonge and defeat Acacia. This kinda post is exactly the reason why we need rating buttons. This one deserves the Awesome button
-
In the week that there is no Bleach, even this made this week Jump one of the best together with One Piece and BnhA.
-
So…where did exactly Acacia Spanking hit?
Seeing as how they were in Area 1 to start with, it should be the outside edge of Area 2 and Area 3.
Also if Setsuno didn't drop that shield when Midora showed up, she's definitely dead now.
-
Jirou reviving completely ruins the whole point of acacia being ruthless and the wolfie getting pissed off at acacia.
-
At this point I'm surprised the planet is still holding up. lol
-
Jirou reviving completely ruins the whole point of acacia being ruthless and the wolfie getting pissed off at acacia.
Where even is Jirou revival mentioned?
-
So is Midora so strong that he forced Joa to turn into Frohze with just one look?
-
-
The reality was, that when Starjun remembered that scene with baby Toriko, it didn't pan out enough. Zonge was right next to them. Triplets.
I think it is funny how the author grabs the concept of luck and then tells you: YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR LUCK. I mean it literally was uttered and it moved an attack sideways. At best when I say it a get a sandwich, eh I guess that is pretty good.
-
And what was the point of Acacia taking care of three stepsons and acting like a nice guy most of the time when he was a scumbag?
-
And what was the point of Acacia taking care of three stepsons and acting like a nice guy most of the time when he was a scumbag?
Maybe something about despair turning things more delicious bs.
-
It really sucks that Midora is gonna die soon to hype Torikos 3rd Oni, so generic and predictable.
Nitro helping the Group makes sense since Accacia betrayed him, but I wish he were to fight the 4HK, instead they got Yamchad.
-
What happened to Livebearer again?
-
It's Komatsu my guess. Remember in area 6 when he was cooking side by side Froese. Like a child learn from his parent.
-
at this point, end-game stuff happening all around, it becomes apparent that our main character isn't even Toriko, it's… Midora.
I mean, why is Toriko there? In search of a dish that everyone else is there for as well? Who cares! I believe in you, Midora...!
-
Story wise it should be Toriko buying time for Midora to eat God/Center and defeat Acacia but you know, shonen stuff plus demons. Maybe Midora kills Acacia so Neo takes over and then comes the Toriko. I'd be more satisfied with that.
-

Hahaha your right Midora just turned Joa into a female.

Hell, sounds good to me.
-
Hell, sounds good to me.
I'd be fine with this being the Adventures of Midora.
Toriko: where anybody in the series is more interesting than our main characters.
-
Midora honestly has more emotional pull in this than our protags, even if he turns out to be the son of Acacia.
-
Zonge is the son of Acacia and the father of Starjun and Toriko
-
@Purple:

Well, yeah. He's actually had a meaningful backstory full of drama, mystery, betrayal and suspense.
Toriko on the otherhand is just some hungry guy that wants to share food with people.

I wish the Disciples and Setsuno were the main characters.
-
I wish Bambina and the Monkeys of Area 7 were the main characters.

For some reason, they put this out first.
-
Midora loves his mom! Midora loves his mom!! Ha ha ha ha! Midora loves his mom!!
-
Wow, Midora out-haxxed Joras incomprehensible haxx!!! Amazing!!
Seriously, this would be a lot more satisfying if the techniques weren't so abstract and broken. Between Gourmet Luck and Minority World, Midora can basically manipulate reality freely with naught but a blind stare.
"An interplanetary beam is fired at Midoras forehead at point blank range! OMG, how does he get out of this?"
"Gourmet Luck."
"Well, okay, but how exactly did that manifest -"
"Gourmet luck makes him not be affected"
"But we clearly see the shot go into space, so did it go through him, or did he dodge, or -"
"Gourmet Luck."Screw that.
-
And just like that Pair turned out o be the Good all along of the Blue Nitro. Can't say this surprises me, though I certainly didn't expect him to provide Mansam with such a valuable data.

Gourmet Luck / Food luck are probably the worst mechanics of this manga. I can't even call them techniques. Still liked the chapter though, I found it sweet.
-
Loved the Midora's speech. I mean he really is the main character of the series. At this point who even cares about Toriko? Yeah, he is the sharing type but that's it.
-
Been a while since I enjoyed a Toriko chapter for reasons that are not "art" or "hilarious & ridiculous".
But I'm afraid this is the end, Shima can't top this on the emotional level. Not with the remaining characters available to him.
-

My fear is from now on Toriko will steal the show, considering now he is, magically, capable of taking care of Pair if he betrays them. And Neo's CL is…

Pretty sure that was Minority World. With Gourmet Luck we normally see the miss.

Same difference. It doesn't provide any more substantial explanation for his survival than "Minority World made it happen". The real killer is how unsatisfying is; Midora doesn't even have to twitch an eyebrow to make the impossible possible, and so we get stuff like Joie spontaneously combusting in the end, for seemingly no other reason than being in Midoras awesome presence.
As for Midoras sentimentality, it would go down a lot better if we hadn't seen him literally nuke the world. I guess seeing Frohzes animated corpse could've jolted some morality back to life in him ("Oh right! Frohze! Uh, sharing and family is good, yeah!"), but his "full course" speech sounds rehearsed, and not ike a recent realization. The sentiment is nice, but I don't think Shima has earned Midoras journey to get here.
-
It looks like food luck was actually mana.Guess Toriko being an rpg explains why toriko and midora were completing quests instead of fighting neo, while acacia can't level up due to everybody else being so much weaker than him.
Never leave town without adequate potion supplies Jora
.

To be fair though, that world was full of mostly selfish amoral pricks that would do crap like make people eat poisoned food for entertainment/paying debts, shrug off someone being killed in the street while also making bets on it and people that would tear off their own fingers to mug little girls. Not to mention it was a society based solely around gluttony.
Him nuking them back to the stone age was very "sodom and gomorrah"-ish in my opinion.

Sure, there were dickish people in the Human World. There was also literally every other human being, from simple chefs and merchants to the slumdwellers Toriko got christmas presents for, and every single one of them had to suffer the consequences of a worldwide famine because some jerk killed all the vegetation. The scenario with people losing their fingers to mug a little girl arises explicitly because of what Midora did.
Even if we discard the series internal morality in favor of our own (which isn't a point within the series, hello there Blue Grill), Midoras actions are framed unambiguously as a bad thing, a sad thing, and initially a core part of the Gourmet World expidition is about restoring hope to the world after Midora fucked it over.
Pulling a Sodom and Gommorah "Ah screw it, collective punishment, FUCK EVERYONE, CLEAN SLATE BITCHES", is a shit move in general.
-
That was kind of. . .pretty bland visually, which is weird. The concept of Gourmet Luck is so impossibly stupid (and it being a finite ammount of something that can be "used up" is a level beyond that), and it makes for some of the worst fights in the series. Like this. . .wathever this was.
Midora was a nice guy all along, too bad about destroying the human world and near-killing Ichiryu and stuff.
But a nice guy nontheless.
-
Midora is a cool guy.
! :ninja:
-
Midora's full course is Froese's teachings which are mostly about sharing your food, that's why he wanted god for himself.
What a nice guy.
-
"Midora, my dream is to share some food on a table with you", "Nope. Die. Meteor rain. Everyone die. I'm fed up with this world."
(time skip)
"You know, my dream has always been to be able to share some food with my family, too bad that's no longer a possibility".
Yep. Maybe cause you killed your little brother, but what do I know?
I'm sure it's nothing a bit of cannibalism + Minority World + Gourmet Luck + something something Back Chanel!!!! something something can't solve.
-
Toriko punching Neo in the face was the highlight of this chapter.

Well, they already found Ichi's soul and made a spare body for him to enter. Only problem was that he didn't want to return, so eh.
-
Midora didn't even kill Ichiryu. He spared him!
It was some Nitro or other that finished him off. -

Oh man, you pretty much ruined any respect I had for this chapter. Why are you doing this!??
I need to reread the Midora / Ichi fight now.
-
It was some Nitro or other that finished him off.
It was the one eaten by Neo; can't remember which one that was though. Air maybe?
-

The Madara of the series, lol, but this chapter was great.
Seeing Joa getting rekt like that was sweet to see.
If Midora dies, hopefully he dies in an honorable way like WB.
-
It's no question it's fucked up as hell what Midora has done. Plus the talk itself and Midora's expression isn't even THAT strong. One thing is we really don't get any emotional stuff in Toriko that it has such a strong contrast compared to whole other part of the series. I mean I can't remember even one scene that can be compared to this by it's emotional hook. Maybe Ichiryuu's speech to Sani… That one was nice too.
Shima realizes it too, apparently. Probably that's why he added the bit where how seeing Joie (Frohze's body) effected that side of him. Still in the end it's just a half-ass explanation.

That's another thing. How can Toriko punch Acacia like that? I mean the guy should be around 20k at minimum right now. Toriko probably is past 8 kings level. Which sucks.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I kind of liked the other bits in the chapter. Like how Midora looking away at Acacia and Acacia tilting to that. Plus Joie's 'Oedipus Mama's Boy' comment and 'your full course if load of shit' part.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Last of all, how does a enraged Acacia's punch doesn't destroy Earth is beyond me.
