I honestly hope that PW franchise is not dead.
I do not play on portable and like the fact that One Piece as 3 different style of game on home console:
-Fighting game
-Musou game
-Adventure gameAnd i hope that they'll do one kind of game per year. This way we could have a PW every 3 years.
Totally agree with this and I really hope Bandai Namco does this

There's a lot factors that need to be taken into consideration.
1. Musou titles are more popular than fighting games in Japan.
2. PW3 also had a PS3 version and the PS3 has a bigger install base than both Vita
3. Console gaming in Japan is a shell of its former self.
And on the topic of Pirate Warriors, Pirate Warriors 3 didn't sell as much in Japan as the first one despite being on more platforms.
From what I've experienced, Pirate Warriors is very easy to pick up and have fun with even if you're not a particularly skilled gamer. Add to that how it's a power fantasy game, and it's easy to see how it's got a wider general audience.
Burning Blood (though I've only played a little) seems like the kind of game where you need time to learn how to play enjoyably. Also, it doesn't really feel very thrilling.
Unlimited Cruise wasn't really thrilling either, but I still love it because it captures the essence of adventure so well and has so many extra things you can do.
To anyone who has the game, does it feel fun?

I feel its expected since its a sequel, but it still did extremely well. Almost 400k sold in japan alone.
While we are at topic, it seems Burning Blood pre-orders are higher than usual for the U.S http://www.vgchartz.com/preorders/ . I know vgchartz is not credible, but its still very close to the actual numbers. Thats only the PS4 version, not including Xbox of course.
ugh I hate waiting, the gameplay looks really fun.
There's a demo out for PS4 on the Japanese PSN. It's got Timeskip Luffy, Kuzan, Ace, and Franky.
I was really excited for the game but the demo really turned me off of it. A shame, really.

I've been playing it for a few days, and yes, it's extremely fun.
The game is very true to the source material and seems like a good marriage of the manga and anime aesthetic.
The controls take a while to get used to. The gameplay might be a bit overwhelming at first if you're looking for a very casual "pick-up-and-play" experience, but once you get the combat down and get tactical is when the game truly shines.
Carefully choosing your team and going through the team combo options is very rewarding.
While it has many issues, it's one of those "more depth beneath the surface" type of fighters.

The demo doesn't do the game justice. There's only four characters to choose from, there's no training mode so you can experiment with the characters, no tutorial. Unless you read Japanese, you're not going to understand the control page that pops up before battle.

That sounds reassuring. I guess the next question would be of any of the characters feel unbalanced to you? I remember when I played a bit of it, the Logia characters stood out as being really powerful (with long range attacks or attacks with large areas of effect, plus logia guard). Would Chopper be able to realistically go up against Akainu and not lose 90% of the time?
Or is that what team building is for?
@Bond:

Played it four 4 Hours and its fun, since I like Musou more than Fighting Game I found PW 3 more fun but Burning Blood is good.
Not understanding all is kinda hard to get the Controls and the CPU is imo brutal. The Game is basicly build like J Stars, you notice its from the same Devs.
Its quick and addicting and it can be frustrating from times to times for me but its motivating and all the Characters play diffrent. The Content is rich and you have much Modi. I'm not so good and mostly loose against CPU but I don't understand all so its probably me.
Imo has it a very deeply Story Mode for Marineford. Is really funny. And I agree if you learn more and spent more time with the Game you get better. Its not easy at the beginning but gets easier later. And most of all its simply fun
Do we have any word on DLC for JP? I want afro Luffy.
So is it very similair to J Stars now? Cause if so then yeah…PW series is definitely better gameplay wise then. xD
Glad to hear that the game is fun. I've watched a couple of vids of it the other day and I'm kinda impressed. Once I get a PS4 (if I ever do despite how broke my ass is. lol), I'll give this game a try.

There are a few characters who are unbalanced because of how quickly they can execute their moves and pressure the other player.
Marco and Mihawk are guilty of this. They're very easy to use and very fast.
And special attacks can be done without limit, so there's heavy abuse of spamming. However, there are ways around it if you know how to avoid it and adapt to it.
The support system is the only aspect that is really broken and makes playing on ranked matches annoying. Because most of the players you are fighting try to win with cheap buffs and debuffs. Hopefully, it gets patched soon.
Chopper can realistically fight against Akainu. Like other fighting games, every match-up depends on how skilled the individual player is. Timing, baiting, side-stepping, knowing when to guard break, knowing how to use a character to their full potential determines the outcome.
But the team building aspect is there to not only make the matches fair, but to make a team which complements each character's specialties.
For example, Chopper in Brain Point doesn't have a triangle string combo. Instead, he starts making medicine, which slowly heals your team.
Like I said before, the game might be too overwhelming in the amount of options and details that needs to be figured out.

It takes elements from J-Stars but the gameplay itself is pretty much its own thing.
Doesn't make sense to compare PW and Burning Blood since both are in different gaming genres.
Like I said before, the game might be too overwhelming in the amount of options and details that needs to be figured out.
Overwhelming isn't a bad thing. I was just concerned it might lack depth as a fighter (the limitless specials and so on), but from what you've said, looks like I don't have much reason to worry.
I'm totally buying this once it comes out on Steam.
Pirate Flag Battle Mode will be similar to Mortal Kombat X Faction War mode.
From what I can tell, both Smokers have the exact same moveset (don't know about the Super attack), so what is the point of them being separate? The only difference is clothes and a scar, should've just been a costume. Even if the super is different, it doesn't justify a character slot
One has haki, the other doesn't.
One has haki, the other doesn't.
I see. Still seems weird. Would've liked to have a sunglasses/long coat option for timeskip aswell.
One has haki, the other doesn't.
Is there anything about the hakiless Smoker that might make him more viable than the haki one?
sad thing with fanservice games are that they don't tend to balance them often, if at all. The garp support needs to be nerfed to the ground, holy shit.

what does it do? I know Swillo uploaded a ridiculous Kuma exploit the other day

It makes you unable to use special attacks and logia guard/haki for a while, it's not long but it feels like an eternity. On top of that, your logia guard/haki is completely drained and you have to wait for it to recover when the effect ends. You can use this support twice per match, and once you're affected by it you're pretty much defenseless. Your basic square combo doesnt end with a special attack. If the enemy attacks you with a logia character you can't do anything to stop it apart from doing a character switch and draining half your super meter.

Jesus holy shit, who came up with that idea?
Are there any other particularly broken supports to watch out for? The demo didn't have anything as bad as that.
@Bond:

I don't know about any other really broken support character apart from Garp. However, on my first ranked match some guy used G4 Luffy, Roger support (start with full bar), dragon support (get full bar when enemy gets below 30%). He instantly went into super mode or whatever you want to call it, which just so happens makes it so your attacks don't stagger G4 luffy. Only thing I could do was attempt to dodge and block, which didn't go too well, and once he used his super attack I was below 30% obviously, which means he got a full bar and went into super mode and did it all over again. Needless to say I was pretty pissed, but with the character I had left I managed to beat two of his characters and get his last to 50% before I got KOd. It can feel like playing J!US back in the day where support characters would ruin your entire experience. Sadly this means I'm more or less forced to keep Garp in my decks, even though I really don't want to. It makes the game less fun whether you're on the recieving end or vice versa.
Oh, and I forgot to add that the Garp support also reduces opponents attack and defence by 2.
I'm not sure if I want the Marineford Edition or the Digital Deluxe version. Is the art book any good or is it just the promotional material in book form, for those that have the Marineford Edition JPN? I would like to know since MFE doesn't come with the wanted pack, while the DD does. I am leaning towards the DD now.
–-edit--
Nevermind, there is no JPN version of MFE. It is a EU/US thing only.
Anyone know a website or twitter account to check for news on the game? (japanese version)

I was going to get the Marineford Edition, but it doesn't come with a steelbook? I thought it did. I want the figures but I can't pay over a hundred more for the game. Oh well.

Speak of the devil. May 31st is a bit late for the first batch I think, I just hope I'm still enjoying the game when afro luffy arrives.
From playing the story and some of the wanted versus I didn't really feel it, but playing online makes it much more enjoyable when you have to use your logia guard/haki in a more smarter way to get the advantage. Most people I've played against online aren't very good or just try to abuse broken characters and supports, but once in a while you can get some great matches.
Can you play with two people in the same room? A sort of split screen or something?

If it's possible in the demo I played, it should be possible in the final version.
You can choose between split screen or single screen.
so the WANTED DLC Pack (Xbone Ver) is on Amazon for 15 bucks
so i guess that i can keep the physical copy i fully paid for at gamestop and grab the PS4 Ver of this DLC when it pops up
Eh. This game looks alright. But I really hate the PW series. Just wish they'd return to unlimited…

I dunno…if Unlimited World Red is taken to be their new direction, I'm not very optimistic for the future of the Unlimited series.

Granted, not as good as the other unlimited games, but still miles better than the repetitive, exhausting beat-em-ups they've been releasing.

If you get past the silly way the game reincorporates established characters into a not very strong story while needlessly reusing iconic locations and the battles tied to those locations. And having a filler level villain I suppose.
Because, let me tell you, the other games have story modes that are so very strong.
Thought this was pretty funny
I've become to God like in this game (without spamming).

Can you play with two people in the same room? A sort of split screen or something?
Do you mean play while some spectates ? Then yes or do you mean 2-player split screen while fighting on another ? That's also a yes

The link is dead
The demo for the American version is out.
The game seems pretty fun, but the computer is annoying to play against. They just retreat as far as they can and spam their projectile specials at you, which is a pain if you're playing as Luffy.
And, I only successfully managed to use the Franky Shogun once, but does he not have guard breaks? I was playing against my GF and she just guarded the whole time I used him. I tried to do the Guard Break, but he just did a normal attack. If the transformations can't break guard they're kind of useless.

I haven't even played Franky but from my experience characters whos ultimate transforms them into something big will guard break with the circle button.
