you guys know we are witnessing luffy become a yonkuo
Chapter 799: Parent & Child
-
-
I enjoyed this chapter quite a lot. It's probably one of the best ones in the entire arc. For me, anyway.
Loved some more introspect on Fujitora. But "I took my own eyesight away…" doesn't cut it for me. I want to know more! Who knows when will it become relevant again.
Just hope Luffy doesn't do something stupid and declines their offers. Even he should know that he needs allies.
Bellamy as Heart Pirate then?
-
@Daz:
Once again: The entire ruse stands and falls with the citizens playing along with it. He wouldn't have "got his way", if the citizens had gone "lol, what the hell are you guys doing?" That they didn't do that is the reason we're having this debate.
It's worth pointing out that Kyros doesn't show any particular remorse before he becomes a gladiator, at which point he is booed and despised by the fans. Even if his time in the Colosseum ultimately tempered his character and channeled his fighting ability, it's also likely that the root of his own insecurities arose from the citizens' animosity towards him. They might have come to love him but he still held on to their jeers, because Kyros is really, really good at holding on to the past.
-
This needed to happen sooner or later. And I imagine it's only the beginning.
Add Vivi and some Alabasta people, Jinbe, the Heart pirates, maybe even Hackcock and the Amazons. There was no realistic way Luffy could go up against people like Big Mom and Kaido, who have literal armies of thousands of people under them. Luffy needs an army of his own. I'm glad Oda is finally introducing it.
-
I'm expecting all the strawhats to get at least a 100m bounty raise each. Anyone else wondering if Kidd, Apoo, Hawkins are gonna ally with Kaido? it could makes sense if the want to take down shanks. we know kaido and shanks have fought before. I'm excited to see the reaction of Sanji&co when Luffy comes back with 5600 members XD . . Where were the samurais in this chapter? Where is Jinbe???
-
I wonder if the ex-Whitebeard crew and all his former allies will eventually follow suit and join under Luffy's flag…..
He's already got the Kuja pirates secretly allied to him. -
Sometime in the future Law and his crew will show up to help the Strawhat alliance in a pinch.
He will then tell the enemy "Who said the Strawhat divisions go from 1 to 7, we are the Zero division!!" -
After seing this chapter one phrase resonates threw my mind… Eat shit! Eat shit everybody who swore luffy was just going to flounder his way into becoming Pirate King with a crew of 10 people. Eat shit Sawyer and anyone who considered the Gladiators unimportant fodder! I've been waiting for a moment like this almost since I started reading One Piece in 2001 and it's finally here. I've been hype about this ever since the concept of Yonkou and division commanders were introduced Luffy is finally taking real steps toward becoming Pirate King.
-
YESSSS!! I can't wait till we get closer to the end of the series and Luffy is a badass yonkou (or equivalent) controlling the seas with his massive army alliance. Luffy might kind of say no to them being actual crew members, but I don't see how it would make sense for him to turn down such an alliance when he just stated he needs to start acting more like a king. Think, people!
Mangapanda's dialogue is so awkward and makes things weird. If it wasn't for Aohige's summary I would've thought what Oda was going for with Fujitora was bad. But when translated correctly it's cool.
Chapter break gODAmmit!!
-
I wonder if the ex-Whitebeard crew and all his former allies will eventually follow suit and join under Luffy's flag…..
He's already got the Kuja pirates secretly allied to him.If eventually means at the end of the manga, before the fight against Blackbeard, then maybe XD
-
BTW
I'm pissed… Bartolomeo jsut get the Nr 2 in the ally ranking. What's this?It looks like they've been numbered by strength and I agree.
-
The thing I really do like about this chapter was that Oda eliminated specialisation on what took out Fujitora's eyes.
He really must have been sick of seeing bad in this world. Below is the page in which Fujitora mentions this at the start of the Arc.
!
The engagement was very interesting between Luffy and Fujitora.
Zoro: "My turn" was priceless. I love how Luffy and Zoro have the right mentality going into the new world.
Very nice chapter indeed.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
@uniaka:
Well, well, so luffy IS NOT READY YET FOR ADMIRALS? I WON'T RUN ANYMORE! I WILL ONLY BE FORCED TO RUN AGAIN'T MY WILL :ninja:
And I'm amused by Zoro, "my turn!!" with a evil face… and does nothing. Like he could ever do something again't Fujitora.
Lets just get back to Sanji and co. Nothing to see here. Also, this chapter confirms that Fujitora made himself blind, it wasn't enemy.
Zoro and Fujitora only had one real scuffle.
What are you talking about?

Well judging from one of Fujitora's first lines;
"That the worlds filth my go unseen, is one pleasure of the blind".
He really just touched up on that.
-

What's the point of fighting a yonko if you become another one's underling? (Allying would mean becoming an underling in this case). And the whole thing about New World is either you become an underling of an yonko, or fight one. And the later is something that those who refuse the former option do.
And I think all the four yonkos would have fought each other few times in the past xD -
It looks like they've been numbered by strength and I agree.
Nope missed the panel
BTW Something I noticed… Bartolomeo got the 2... Bartolomeo and Ace share the same real time pirate name... And Ace has been the 2nd commander of WB
-
Sometime in the future Law and his crew will show up to help the Strawhat alliance in a pinch.
He will then tell the enemy "Who said the Strawhat divisions go from 1 to 7, we are the Zero division!!"Division…
of...
-
Shit, sometimes I wish my predictions were wrong, I jokingly wrote in the previous chapter thread that there will be a break next week. F*#?!
Crazy chapter, wow. No doubt Bartolomeo spent his days in the castle telling everyone one of strawhats exploits and accomplishments in detail. Probably got them all mad hyped for Luffy, moreso than before.
I said Bellamy will join Law's crew and I stick by it. Forget the reasoning, it will happen.
Favorite part of the chapter? Zoro saying it's his turn, captain and vice captain are exactly the same lol.
Would he be able to do anything? He was able to overcome Fuji's gravity before, something Law was only able to get away from with Shambles.
Fuji is now my favorite admiral. Sorry Kizaru. This way we get to see all the allies reappear someday, Baby 5 and Don Chinjao (who will surely see Garp again this way)
I didn't expect Tontattas to come and does that mean Mansherry is coming or nah? Surprising that Leo is able to not be by her side. At least Wicca can hide in Zoro's shirt again and be his sense of direction. As expected though, Luffy isn't a match for an admiral, that threat to destroy all the ships that were lined up, that wasn't a joke. Did we get further confirmation that Yonkou are stronger than Admirals? Fuji saying he's got no chance anyway since Yonkou will be after him so may as well put him out of his misery here. Dressrosa citizens sort of redeemed themselves. Now that they're all setting sail from Dressrosa I feel like all the negatives I had with the arc are fading into the distance (just like the island will when they set sail). And holy cow the Yonta Maria what the flip?! That's like Titanic on steroids.
-
@Daz:
Kyros crippling issues of self-worth was based entirely on a misconception that he would be unaccepted, that Rebecca needed to live without him as a princess to avoid a scandal.
He was ready to set sail and abandon his child after 3 days of reunion, because the citizens…humored the absurd charades of the royal family, I guess? It makes the drama of him and Rebecca, which is played entirely straight, feel completely pointless.
You've said it yourself..Kyros' self-wroth was the biggest problem and the citizens ire was just his excuse. It was all about Rebecca and Kyros and whether he felt he deserved to be a father due to his bloodstained hands.
The citizens were just an excuse whether they knew about it or not.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
@Daz:
The only reason he didn't know is that the citizens, for some reason, played along with the Royals lies. After the giant fake funeral, people instantly figured out that not-Kyros and not-Scarlet in that house on the hill were in fact Kyros and Scarlet, now having abandoned their home, status and identities to the point where the king needs to sneak out in a disguise to see his own granddaughter.
But I guess it'd be rude of the citizens to tell the couple that they knew? Better let them keep up the lifelong lie for no reason then.
We've been told that the citizens trusted the Royal family, so I'm assuming they just trusted they knew what they were doing and respected their decision for secrecy.
-
BTW
I'm pissed… Bartolomeo jsut get the Nr 2 in the ally ranking. What's this?Orlumbus explained it. They did a lottery like pullin straws or sth. Barto pulled the 2nd best straw.
-
I wonder if the ex-Whitebeard crew and all his former allies will eventually follow suit and join under Luffy's flag…..
He's already got the Kuja pirates secretly allied to him.Wasn't that Whitebeard's last order to them as a captain? to support Straw hat Luffy.
-
BTW I love the yonta Maria-word Play. SANta Maria (san=3) YONta Maria (yon=4), this was brought up Long ago, but it is nice how oda Plays with references. And Orlumbus/Columbus. I hope he has another ship like the "nin~a" and the "pinta" called "pinka collada" or sth.
-
Wasn't that Whitebeard's last order to them as a captain? to support Straw hat Luffy.
No.
But the WB crew took it upon themselves to protect Luffy at any cost, because Ace gave his life to save him and Whitebeard believed in him, so perhaps they still feel they need to make good on that, and eventually when the time comes i'm sure they will - and assuming they do, they will be amazingly powerful allies to have…along with all the other pirates that were allied to WB, depending on how many of them are still around
-
Hello,
I don't know if it has been mentioned, but I think luffy will turn down their offer but the alliance will still happen under Usopp's leadership. So now, Usopp is still missing only 2400 crew members to reach his 8000 crew. Of course, being under Usopp's wings, means they are allied to the mugiwaras.
Usopp is the one with whom they're going to share sake cups. -
Really awesome chapter. Of course Bartolomeo has 56 crewmembers haha.
-
No.

Let's consider that WB's Crew was as WB himself stated "his Family" and WB was called "Pops". Now if the father dies, would the rest of the Family still stick together or would they split apart? It'd tear WB's heart if they split apart, so I guess a bigger part of WB's Crew still sails together.
But I cannot speak for his alliance. The threat meter of the WB-pirates for sure decreased after WB's death, so one or another WB-ally may have left the alliance.I personally like a "fresher" alliance for Luffy. We saw that when Chinjao passed on his power to Sai. A younger, fresher Version of Chinjao.
And Hajrudin look a lot like the thin giant from Little garden (Dorry or Brogy). His son maybe? After all they can reach up to 300 yrs of Age. -

Usopp is the one with whom they're going to share sake cups.Omg that's genius didn't think of that, Luffy will turn them down but God Ussop will accept. Nice one.
-
What a chapter! Spoilers!!
Luffy now like a 5th yonko!!!! Fucking did not see any of this coming. However I guess it means Barto won't join the crew :c
And Luffy's bounty won't be a modest increase at all now, he will be held responsible for all his armies crimes.I have to say, ODA, you son of a gun….......you pull one on us. Damn you.
I wonder where Belamy will go to ? Hope it's the Barto Pirate Crew.
-
Crocodile will also join the Mugiwara alliance some day… And then once they free Bon Clay from Impel Down, he will have his own crew of prisoners
-
Will Fujitora really fight seriously against Luffy or any of the SHs in the future after his statement in this chapter and the happy face?
I really dunno. As with Kuzan I can't see Fujitora fighting him for real in the future… Same as I don#t see all admirals being fought in the same arc for fanfic reasons
-
Fantastic chapter.
Where were those guys who insisted that the colosseum fighters won't be relevant again? :) It really shows that some people just can't grasp how Oda is telling this story.
-
This chapter made the Rebecca chapter from a few weeks ago truly 100% pointless as I'd been saying all along. Oda manufactured the issue of them not being able to live together in the public eye from literally out of no where and then drove the final stake through it this week when he revealed the 'the citizens knew all along!'. .
By that logic, so was the fight between Luffy and Coby to get him into the marines. So were the chefs trash talking Sanji's cooking to get him to leave the Baratie. We didn't need to find out that Nami's village knew she was sacrificing for them rather than being a traitor. And Kureha chasing after Chopper and yelling at him to force him out of the castle when she would have let him go anyway was pointless. We didnt need Luffy running through town with Franky's pants followed by Robin grabbing his balls.
None of those things was needed to get the character to do what their heart called for, but we still got the moment.
How you personally feel on an issue, isn't diminished just because other people already know or have no problem with it. Doesn't mean its less of an issue to you.
Its a character bit Oda pulls all the time where a loved one always knew, or says something they don't really mean to push things along.
All of this stalling just to depart at 800 and have a 100 chapter arc
Considering we got setup on Dressorossa in chapter 699 and 700, next week will be 101 or 102 depending how you count. And thats only if they actually get out of there 100% and onto the next place by the end of the chapter, without Rikku's speech going into the next chapter. Unless you're going to discount the Kaidou chapter, or change the start point arbitrarily with "but they didn't do X until this chapter!" at which point you're playing all sorts of semantics.
Nevermind that Dresserossa and Dofla, along with Baby 5 and Buffallo, were dragged into the story before well before the end of punk hazard in a direct line to it.
Oda wasn't stalling for the sake of a 100 chapter anything, because if thats the case, he already missed it.
-
I didn't like translation of Luffy's calls. "I'mma kick you" - wtf sounds lame as hell imo.
-
And before people say I'm just bitching all the time
This chapter has been awesome… Really lvoe Fujitora and the alliance stuff.
But I do not get 2 things... What is the real reason for Luffy not fighting Fujitora seriously?
And do the Tonattas will sail in their own ship around or what are they planning to do?
-

Arc started at 700 and they are departing at 800. Can't tell me that wasn't intentional on his part.
-
And do the Tonattas will sail in their own ship around or what are they planning to do?
Their future is what I seriously wonder about. They can't survive on their own, will they have to stick with Luffy all the time?
-
Please don't turn them down!
I hope Jimbei returns to help the fleet escape. He could also throw in the tea party, kaido, sanji, bounties, or any other twist.
So much hype!!!
-
I am really bothered at the fact that I am pretty sure Luffy will turn down the offer of being the "Parent" :|. He NEEDS all that man power for later, thats a given. And keeping the act of wanted to be free and without ties is not going to bring any good. He should be portrayed as a little more serious now…. -__-
-

They are departing at the 799 though?
-
They are departing at the 799 though?
How can they be departing if they haven't left yet?
-
Well, as usual the best is Aohiges summary.
The chapter was quite foreseeable. Dressrosa simply makes no sense otherwise. It simply was a (way too many chapters and flashbacks) setup for the new world. And therefore Oda needed an "old" character. He didnt want to waste a new one on that.
It is now when the new world really begins. -
Arc started at 700 and they are departing at 800. Can't tell me that wasn't intentional on his part.
That's 101 chapters. Not 100.
And assuming they get out immediately next chapter with no follow up on the island upon their leaving.
And discounting that Dresserossa was on camera and the plot was starting in full swing off punk hazard in the earlier chapters, so having to make a caveat to start your number at 700 instead of 699 or 698. Unless you want to say its the strawhats landing that starts it, which was 701,
And ignoring that that the much beloved chapter with Kaidou had nothing to do with anything current.
Oda did not, and was not, aiming for a perfect 100 chapter arc. An arc around 2 years in length, sure. But no matter how you slice it, its NOT exactly 100 unless you fudge the counts in some way and thats not what he was"padding" for.
-
You might be the only one hoping for Bellamy my friend.
-

700 + 100 = 800.
Punk Hazard wrapped up in 699 and the Strawhats arrived at Dressrosa in 700 marking the beginning of the arc. This isn't as difficult to comprehend as you're trying to make it.
-
Blue Gilly
Ideo
Abdullah & JeetI just realized Oda lumped all the parody characters in one team lol.
-
700 + 100 = 800.
Punk Hazard wrapped up in 699 and the Strawhats arrived at Dressrosa in 700 marking the beginning of the arc. This isn't as difficult to comprehend as you're trying to make it.
You mean 699+101=800, right?
-
-
Was my last post in Chinese?
Yep, cause you included 700 in Dressrosa and you said that 700+100=800 at the same time.
-
700 + 100 = 800.
Punk Hazard wrapped up in 699 and the Strawhats arrived at Dressrosa in 700 marking the beginning of the arc. This isn't as difficult to comprehend as you're trying to make it.
700 counts as a chapter as well. You're not counting the zero.
1-100=100.
0-100=101.And the arc DID start before 700. They were off Punk Hazard and had celebrated in 697… and were setting up Dofla leaving the warlords and we had clear shots of Dresserossa, the badguys, and the citizens... you can sort of say 698 wasn't there yet cause that was travelling shenanigans, but 699 definitely was. And we don't yet know if it'll be 100% done at 800.
If you want to claim it started on 701, then you'd have a case for the 100 chapter thing. But as is, its really wobbling around at least 103 if not more. Minus the Kaidou chapter that was totally unconnected.
-
Yep, cause you included 700 in Dressrosa and you said that 700+100=800 at the same time.
Because it's when they arrived at Dressrosa and we stopped getting Punk Hazard content. If you don't believe that 700 + 100 = 800 then don't take my word for it, go use a calculator.
-
Also Oda doesn't do that kind of shit, if it happens to end at 800 it ends at 800 I doubt it would be done on purpose.
And before people say I'm just bitching all the time

I'm more surprised that anyone actually expected the fight to happen, I said last week Law was most likelly stopping it, it wasn't him but the fight sure got interrupted, Oda just had Luffy beat Doflaingo, the climax of this arc happened, he isn't going to have him fight an admiral for no reason, that will happen later in an arc where it actually makes sense.
-

You're not getting the math.
The easiest way to look at it, is if you had something happen in chapter 1 through 3, the difference between 3 and 1 is 2, but the actual story arc is 3 chapters long.
So doing a simple subtraction nets you an error of 1.
