This feels like the author trying to mock the people that didn´t like the fanservice or dropped the series because of it, pretty lame. Couldn´t take any of it seriously, Arthur´s meta fight was at least fun, crazy and lacked the ill intent.
Maybe the author wanted to try pulling off Evangelion´s move of mocking the toxic fanbase, but without any grace, weight or good reasong behind it. This makes me appreciate people like Yoko Taro, he at least own the lewd part of their series.
In Japan Tamaki was voted 2nd most popular character only behind Shinra, so that tells you how much of a problem the japanese had with the fanservice.
And no, I don't think the author has got any time to spare searching for sensitive folks. This is a small plot thread that had been going on since the early chapters, and this work is written by the same author that gifted us Soul Eater. Compared to that work, the amount of fanservice in FF is really scarce, with 90% of it played for laughs.
So volume 24 that just released overseas includes a section that sheds some light on SHC.

Wow, first 255 and now 281. I'm so glad I stopped at 258. Reading Arthur vs Dragon fight as I caught up was so good. Characters like Tamaki usually get lost in the chaos, but he stuck to what she represent since her introduction.
The Goku cover was cool, but I was let down by the Kurono fight.

I don't think Benimaru wins this one on his own. 1 he's already had his "fight" in a sense and 2 a lot of these doppelgangers take more than 1 character overcoming them. What they represent has to be challenged as well.

This is why I like Shinra's take on heroism. He didn't join the SFF because he wanted to prove his worth to others, or because he wanted to save lives. It was vengeance. The desire to avenge his family who at that point he thought they had died in the fire was the one thing that kept Shinra moving forward. And now it happened again, he couldn't save someone important to him, and his rage is boiling like hot magma. Killing Haumea at this point has become a necessity.

Tbh I was a little worried about the weird meta commentary experiments (calling it that due to lack of a better description honestly) in some of the late chapters, but I'm weirdly digging the final showdown and its developments.
! Introducing death into the newly created world as in turning him from a "concept" into an existing "deity", thus laying the foundation for Soul Eater's world and to top it off making Fire Force into a prequel story with the same move? Bold, but entertaining move for sure!

The plot technically ended with the most recent chapter, but there's still the epilogue which will be 2 chapters long. A recent interview makes me wonder if Okubo is really retiring after this, or he's just taking a break.
