hey i was just wanderin how u guys pull clips from wach episode in the video request theard thingy
How do u take a video clip from an episode
-
-
Well I use virtual dub, which probably most people use to make clips for the video request.
-
Yes VirtualDub is the way to go.
First know which time frame you want to start at, then press crtl+g and you'll get a box pop up, replace the 0:00:00 with whatever time you're looking for, like 16:45:00
Once you have gotten to your desired area, use the mark in button at the bottom
Move to where you want to end the clip (whether by using crtl+g again or just watching it) and press the mark out button. Also you'll see at the bottom it'll tell you what the frame number and time is, and you'll see a set of brackets, when there is a "k" in the brackets it means that there is a scene change.
Ok once you do that (don't have screens at the moment), at the top bring down the video menu, then go to "compression". You have to choose the codec you will be compressing with. If you don't well you could break your computer with the uber largeness of the file. Once you do that, bring down the file menu and go "Save as avi" and voila you have a video clip.
If there is any confusion with the last bit of instruction, I'll make screens later.

Or if you just have a program like Windows Movie Maker you can upload the episode there and delete everything except the clip you want and then create a video file of it.
-
I made a clip, but the sound is all messed up, and it stops after 30 seconds.
-
Matt, could you elaborate on how to upload the episode to Windows Movie Maker?
-
simple, file => open media or something like that, find your avi file and click okay.
-
When you run Windows Movie Maker, you go to your Movie Tasks and click on "Import Video" and then choose the video you want to take a clip of.

In Virtual Dub?
Well, first of all, which form of compression are you using? Xvid?

Yep. I'm using Xvid for the commpression.

OK, did you go to Video - compression - select xvid, and then configure? Try making the file smaller.
-
Is it possible to take a video clip from Windows media player? Or do I need to use one of those programs? knows absolutely nothing
-
I'm pretty sure you need a video editing type of program in order to make clips. Virtual Dub is free to download, it's not that hard.
-
When I tried to load a video file into Virtual Dub, I got the following error message:
Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unknown)
Virtual Dub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable. What does all this mean, and how do I fix it?
-
^ Someone else had this problem, I've never encountered the problem myself but I had a lot of codecs at the time. I think all you really need is an XVid codec, which can be found here.
Of course I could be horribly horribly wrong, but that's my guess.
-
Yep, that worked
Thanks -
QuickTime Pro'll do it in a snap, but it ain't free, so I'd imagine a lot of people find that unappealing.
