There has been zombie, werewolf and vampire movies for as long as any horror fan can remember. ZOMBIES out do anything else in horror by far. There's so many types of horrors… houses that want you dead.... CARS that want you dead.. aliens... mummies... vamps, werewolves.. zombies.... killer bugs.... ROBOTS! messed up humans... ghosts... demons....

So many horror's seem to strive to do something else to define them from any other movie of its type. As the ages go by and more and more movies are made people run out of ideas...

And with horror.. comes the spoofs... some done well, some done... bad... and also.. the black comdies... NOT spoofs but a mix of horror and dark humor which is always a nice mix.

Some movies are more well known then others. You could just HEAR a tittle and know what it's about from what you've heard or you could see one by chance that you'd never heard of.

I think Horror is one of the biggest and widest liked genes of film around. Unlike comedy or action Horror has no real gender aim. It may have AGE aims such as scream seemed teeny to me and things like Skelington key needed a more mature way of thinking.

Horror comes from everywhere, England, USA, Japan, everywhere. A horror movie can be made by ones own thinking, a myth, a wives tale anything. The world has so many hidden and deep meanings that horror's find it easy to focus on fear.

There's not always action in a person's life or romance. But there is always a fear that can be harnessed. Which is why to me Horror is one of the strongest genes.

Some horror's focus on gore, violence, cheap scares and jumping out on people and some focus on getting to your mind. There are alot of corny horror's out there but there is also alot of good ones.

With alot of good horror's ... comes re-makes.. be them good or bad. Sometimes Horror runs out of new ideas.

ZOMBIE movies being a good example.

How many diffrent movies can you make about the same thing? I've seen infection, rabis, T-virus and much more. One day they might come up with something new.. but till then people keep making more of the same.. thats why alot of people think Zombies movies are corny.

I know this is a long winded post but Horror is my fav type of movie and thus I feel like I need to go overboard a little when I talk about it. The reason for this post is simple... what people's favorate movies are.... what did you find good and bad about movies?

Did any raise any questions? or stayed in your mind?

What horror's do you feel really missed the goal to scare or wow.

Movies I liked and are my fav's for whatever reasons.. and highly recomend.

      13 Ghosts
      Dawn Of The Dead
Dog Soldiers [British horror for the win!]
      Shaun Of The Dead
      The Decent
      The Skelington Key
      Resident Evil: Apocalypse
      Interview with the Vampire
      28 Days Later
      Jaws [A classic]
      Christine
      Gremlins
Beetle Juice [like fav movie EVER]
      Scary Movie 3
      Jurassic Park

thank you all for putting up with my ramblings < 3 and typos.

Ah, I'm sooo looking forward to seeing The Descent. I've only heard great things about it.

As for what I love (and these will stretch the boundaries of horror somewhat and the list is in no order)
THE THING From Another World (the original - sooooo very awesome)
        Jaws
        Alien
        Night of the Living Dead
Horror Express (this movie scared me bad as a kid so it has a special spot in my heart)
        Psycho
The Wolf Man (Lon Chaney Jr. was sooo awesome)
Bud Abbott Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein
        Evil Dead trilogy
        Shaun of the Dead
        Dog Soldiers
        Halloween

And you can dream - So dream out loud

I do love to be scared shitless, so here's the bunch i love:

The Exorcist - THE horror film.
Nosferatu - The original silent film version with the organ soundtrack. The first horror film and still one of the best
Army of Darkness - Bruce Campbell = b-movie god with a chin
          Alien
Blair Witch Project - I really thought it was creepy when i first saw it. Not to mention it helps that my house sits near the woods.
Return of the Living Dead - Saw the first one when i was twelve and scared the royal shit out of me
Nightmare on Elm St. - So corny, but i love them.
Shaun of the Dead - Best parody EVAR. I just wish i could get the british jokes.

"My mother is Hilary Clinton"? Never heard of it, but it sounds funny. What's it like & where can I find it? Is it still in theaters or is it already on DVD?

Anyway, I'm not really a big fan of horror movies. A lot of today's horror flicks focus on gore, which is something I just dislike looking at. But I do love the Exorcist. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. Still scares the hell out of me. I also like the Shining, but that one really wasn't all that scary. Jurassic Park was great, too.

By the way, nice post Funkyfunkyusopp. I never really though of horror in that way before.

I personally never really find horror movies to be all that scary. Aside from the occasional scary guy pops out of nowhere quick shock moment, most of the time I am more amused than scared.

That said, I do love the zombie genre. The whole idea of societal norms coming crashing down leading to a sort of every-man-for-himself kind of environment is fascinating to me. I find good zombie movies to be more of a commentary on how our society copes with disaster than anything else. After that hurricane Katrina hit, I can't count how many times I heard between the people on TV and talking with my own friends that it was like watching a zombie movie. To me, zombie movies are a fantastical take on realistic possibilities.

Oh yeah, I can't say no horror films scare me. I still won't watch Killer Clowns from Outer Space. That movie scarred the bejeezus out of me when I was a kid.

I didn't know that there was a Pumpkinhead 3 coming out. I knew that there was an Evil Dead remake staring Aston Kutcher coming out next year, but I didn't know there was going to be a Pumpkinhead 3. I checked out IMDB.COM, nothing about Pumpkinhead 3. Are you hoping for it to come out or do you already know that it is coming out?

Whoever put that rumor up on IMDB.com is not funny. Bruce Campbell said in an interview AND on his own site (www.brucecampbell.com) that while there is a possiblity of a remake, nothing's set in stone yet. In fact, they have no director, no start date or a script.

And in case of the very SLIM chance that the remake will star that fool as Ash, ten bucks says that every forum with a strong connection to the Evil Dead trilogy will snap.

EDIT: My bad. the above site is owned and made by a close friend of Bruce. Though he does provide the email address for him.

I think that the only hope for a Pumpkinhead 3 will be as a made for Sci-Fi Channel movie.

Speaking of atrocities that go straight to Sci-Fi channel and video shortly thereafter, there are two new 'Return of the Living Dead' movies popping up on Sci-Fi this weekend. For some crazy reason I have low expectations.
