Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford Reuniting for Fifth ‘Indiana Jones’

Director Steven Spielberg and star Harrison ford will make a fifth “Indiana Jones” film, to screen July 19, 2019, Disney announced Tuesday.

The release from the studio describes “a fifth epic adventure in the blockbuster series,” adding: “Steven Spielberg, who directed all four previous films, will helm the as-yet-untitled project with star Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role. Franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.”

      The release continues:

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

“Famed archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones was introduced in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time – and later thrilled audiences in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The four films have brought in nearly $2 billion at the global box office.”

I think I'm one of the few people who actually enjoyed Crystal Skull. Loved the older movies more and Crystal Skull didn't match up to them but it wasn't a disappointment for me either. Looking forward to Harrison Ford putting the iconic hat back on.

I didn't think Crystal Skulls was that bad either.

I look forward to seeing what Indiana 5 has to offer

            NO!!!

No no no no no no no no no! This is NOT a good idea. Harrison Ford is too old for this shit now, let alone in three years. Did they learn nothing from That Which Shall Not Be Named?

I liked Crystal Skull, too. Not as good as Raiders or Last Crusade, but better than Temple of Doom.

Ford does seem a bit old for it, though. I guess they wanted one more with him and then they'll recast. I've seen people say they want Chris Pratt, but I'd hate him in the role. I'd prefer someone like Bradley Cooper.

Maybe Indiana Jones will die in this movie, just like Han Solo dies in Star Wars episode 7, so Harrison can put a rest in this character and move to other types of movies and characters.

I didn't really like the younger guy(IJ's son) that was supposedly going to take up the torch in the last movie.

Speaking of which, what are the chances of Shia even returning? He seems to be too preoccupied with doing random stuff to come back.

Don't want to see Shia the Beef on-screen again.
Glad that we get to see Indiana Jones again in the big screens.
They probably realised what the audience wants and not wants to see from the last film.
So I expect this one to be better

Come on, he's not that far gone, lol. He's been in a couple of decent films over the last years.

I actually liked him as Indy's son. The only thing that really bothered me was plot-fencing and tarzaning.

First time I hear about this. I hope it doesn't turn out the same as Die Hard. Watched Die Hard 4 and felt it was fun, even if it was going overboard with stuff, not unlike IJ4. And never even watched Die Hard 5 because of how ridiculous it looked from the trailer. Reading reviews didn't help. I'll watch it if it airs on TV and literally don't have anything better to do.

Shia is a shitty actor who always plays the insecure tough guy in every one of his films. Especially his habbit of speaking his lines incredibly quick makes everything he does feel rehersed and phony.

I don't recall him being an insecure tough guy in the film adaptation of Holes or any of the Transformer movies where all the vitriol for him (along with Crystal Skull) originates.

Gonna be honest, By the time I saw Crystal Skull it had just left theaters and I'd already been told by everyone how terrible it was, and I saw it for free while in a hotel room. My expectations were ridiculously low and I didn't pay to see it, so I ended up enjoying it overall. It wasn't Raiders or Last Crusade good…. BUT, it also felt like it was having fun with itself.... which is more than I can say for Temple of Doom most of the time...

Anyway, on the new one.... kinda interested to be honest.

We have Spielberg + Disney + Ford Coming Back - Lucas.

You take that same formula but write it like this: JJ Abrams + Disney + Ford Coming Back - Lucas = Amazing Star Wars movie.

Maybe the same will hold true for Indy?

I don't doubt they could make something entertaining, what I don't get is the desire to keep on milking a pretty dead franchise and insisting on bringing back Ford to play roles that worked when they were meant to be about an adventurous, young, attractive dude fighting nazis and getting relics and stuff.

It also sounds extremely forced when you see this news right after hearing they're working on rebooting Lara Croft for theaters as well… so if the timing is right they could saturate the market with two movies with the same genre, both appealing to the basic desire of people to see something they've already seen before.
Shame Shia laDouche didn't work out due to being... well, kind of a douche... otherwise he would have pretty much secured his career by taking off as indy. And how are they going to explain his absence in the sequel? I'm hoping something like Marcus where he has a statue somewhere detailing his gruesome death by the hands of a pack of mandrills he tried tarzan-ing with.

The new generation taking over icons roles (like in IJ or Die Hard) is a concept doomed from the beginning.
Ford being again in the new movie definitely shows that without him those movies wouldn´t work.
I hope Shia stays away from it, but that can´t also be the case, seeing the effort they put in the 4th movie to bring him in.
Would be curious, when he doesn´t play a role now.

This might be good, if they use it as an opportunity to pass the mantle on to someone else as the new Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford is getting too old to be playing his classic action roles anymore.

Hey, whaddaya know, there is an existing thread for this movie. I've just seen it a couple of hours ago, and imo it's fine. Not as good as the first three, but certainly better than the fourth one in my eyes. Your mileage may vary on how much you like/dislike the climax of the film, but overall, it more or less managed to come close to the feeling of the original trilogy and treated its main character with respect and dignity. A lot of negative reviews claim that Indy is overshadowed by the female main character of the film, who is supposedly portrayed as perfect in every way while Indy comes across as a useless old man. I didn't get that impression at all...I thought Indiana Jones was clearly the main character and focus of the film, and while his female companion got her fair share of badass and cool moments, she also had a fair bunch of deliberate character flaws.

While I can't say it was really necessary to continue the franchise with this film, it overall left a positive impression on me and does work well as a finish to the franchise.

I have the opposite opinion, feels dull to me past the opening. Four had some nonsense but can't say it was boring,, heck I'm one of the few who like the shake up in that film. Five is just meh, it's a decent adventure but I just found it forgettable once the credits rolled. Helena alright as a character but I'm not clamoring for her to come back, she's just slight above Wille in terms of Indy's partners. Capable but I can't think of much that made her stand out, same for her not-Short Round partner. And the ending is...no. I know what they're trying to do, but that's something Indy should've came to the conculsion of himself, not decided for him. And considering this is his "last adventure", that just left a bad taste in my mouth. 4 felt like good finality to him, this is just trying to fix what wasn't broke.

Get nuts or go crazy trying.
