[h=2]Super Mario Maker looks like so much fun. I CANNOT WAIT FOR 9/11.[/h]
Didn't get to see it, did the Koopalings get in, or just Jr.? Because if two Isabelles and a mahjong piece make it in before them, I'll be mad disappointed.
No variants (Female Robin, Alph, Male WFT), so get your anger and disappointment out of the way now.

I'm more surprised/disappointed at no daisy. I hope they do free costume updates like with mario kart 8.

surprised/disappointed at no daisy.
@black-leg:
no daisy.
Ya cut me deep, Nintendo. Real deep. :X
Ya cut me deep, Nintendo. Real deep. :X
All the potential she could have had
Also here is the complete list of characters:
!
! Yay for Nikki from Swapnote, more Animal Crossing critters, Waluigi!!!, and whoa….DK Jr. and Diddy in the same game, we have officially divided by zero.
! Although it's kinda superfluous to have two Isabelles, and each yarn Yoshi having a spot.
! and no Daisy :(
! Can we assume a bunch of those can hint at future amiibo? Like certain animal crossing ones as well as the star fox U ones?
! Granted, maybe the star fox ones are there for promotion. I don't know why anyone would buy a slippy amiibo
! Also, I can't figure out what 91 is supposed to be

Not mad, mad disappointed. I mean, they were in almost all those games and get no representation.
On the bright side,
! Mr. Resetti will finally have his day.

! I imagine many of them are just there for promotion. Although we can dream.
! 91 is foreman spike. He was the main villain of wrecking crew. Also the mahjong piece is from Nintendo's yakuman series, not just a random mahjong piece.
!
! +200 cool points for Wario having Wario Land sounds for his death music. And Mario's are from Super Mario 64, I didn't know that <3333
With the game almost here, let's check out some more courses:

And the Gamexplain review:
Seems ike Nintendo is patching away that 9-day unlock silliness. There is still a need to unlock-as-you-go but it will no longer be locked behind a daily play requirement.
Yeah, it's now every 15 minutes. Still skippable with the clock either way, but at least anyone will have all of the tools in one day of owning the game.
Can't wait to play. ^_^
That one gamexplain dude explaining his bob-omb battlefield was obnoxious.
I mean if you have to explain the obvious reference, then you probably didn't do a very good job making it.
I plan on remaking every level in 64 once i have all the tools unlocked so i'm annoyed that he did that one first.
How many Sonic-themed levels will appear, named "GOTTA GO FAST" or "UR 2 SLOW" or something like that?
The Super Meat Boy level looked awesome. Like the type of level I'd actually want to play in this game.
…But technically it should be broken up into bite-size segments with checkpoints every so often.
I'm such a whore, I bought Ganon, ZSS, and Olimar amiibos….but I got the game!
Like I figured, everyone is much more creative, but it's awesome playing levels. Made a Wii Fit themed level.
I'm at wooooooooooork… can't get it till I get home at ~5:30 today DX
got my copy for SMM and the last 8-bit mario amiibo (non modern colored) that the store had
Anyone want to see if they can beat my level? So far, only my brother and a friend from twitter have managed it. Try your skills:
Oh no, wall jumping? I'm doomed. XD
I've unlocked a few amiibo costumes so far, including Rosalina~
Wario is the only costume I unlocked without amiibo. But now I can't play till Monday. It is torture!

What's the best way to connect all of us? I suppose we can just enter one course ID of someone and follow that creator (always seeing when someone posts a new level through the game), or maybe I should make a spreadsheet?
i thought you weren't buying this noqanky :P
Between all the aggressive marketing with youtube videos everywhere and having gotten paid yesterday and having a surplus after paying bills, I just couldn't help myself. T_T
I finished and uploaded a level. Give it a shot and let me know what you all think!

Good levels, Meta, and J-Sack. I'll try out the rest of yours soon, Meta, because right now, I need to brainstorm this Metroid level I want to make.
And yeah, following someone is probably the best way to keep up with what levels they make. Then again, the system isn't perfect, since a friend of mine's profile only showed one level, even though he had another one that he had uploaded. Ninternet issues…
I agree following people is the best way, but even then if people make awesome levels they want to share I think this is the best venue. Especially given the game doesn't notify you when people who you follow make new levels.
Also, idk if I want to follow Mugen now, his levels are bullshit =P
Ahoy there AP! Been a while for me but I thought I'd join back in with this Mario Maker mayhem! I will happily play all your levels and follow you guys. I'll likely star most the levels to help you guys increase your upload count. That being said if a level is really bad then I'm afraid I'll have to keep my starring integrity.
I hope you all will play mine as well!
Now some of my own personal design philosophy when I create levels.
My favorite mario moments tend to be the fun platforming action, and not the puzzles. I try to make it difficult, but also able to be "in the zone" and able to fly through a course with that nice precision satisfaction.
Another of my favorite Mario elements are secrets and surprises. Hidden blocks, secret areas, bonus platforms - all with actual rewards at the end for going the extra mile. Trolling is something I've come to hate in this game and I will never put any element of it in my levels (this includes 100% blind jumps). I try to make levels beatlable by most, with bonus content for skilled/exploratory players.
Though this is how I want to make levels I don't always succeed. If anyone does play my content please critique them and tell me how I can do better. It's unfortunate but right now I don't have many skilled Mario players to play test the levels in person.
In terms of what I upload, I'll put the first ten course I make online, and then continually replace the worst one with a better course I create.
Here are my codes, and I'll get to yours right away!

I'd love to see an escalation of both of your themes, like having more wii fit trainer levels with more epic tests of balance, as well as having other sonic levels with Sonic-like traps, like spikes and springs. Fun stuff!

Now yours is probably the most fun I've had with a level so far. I loved exploring every single path and seeing the change in difficulty depending on whether you took the coinless path or not. Pretty awesome idea, and I had a smile pretty much the whole time I was playing.
Deviant_Mugen, thanks for the kind word. Glad you enjoyed. Curious which path you took.
Mickamott, I agree with your philosophy. When I designed what I did, I had those aspects in mind. There may be one or two tricks that I did, but they are survivable and also you learn and aren't blind the next time if they do lead to a death. So I hope they don't come across as trolling, haha.
Noqanky, thank you for the kind words. A comment like that brought a smile to my face and is inspiring to create another level! Thank you.
I also wanted to make something people would want to go back to. Like, "What if I went this way?" or "I saw a glimpse of something, how do I get there?"
I know I personally welcome feedback. I definitely plan to give trying to create more a shot and am looking to improve. This is the first time I ever actually completed and uploaded something with a level editor. I just started tinkering and a few hours later, I had a level. So simple.
I wish there was a way to view where all the deaths happen to learn for next time. Like, "Oh, maybe that part isn't as hard as I thought it was."

Mugen found and shared that if you look at the thumbnail of your own levels, you see flashing X's where people died.
Now playing Mick's levels, his philosophy definitely shows, and it's one I can appreciate.
I see that now. Thanks!
A shame I can't switch to see my sub-level as well.
It's really interesting playing specific people's levels in a row. Everyone has their own unique design sense.
J-Sack, your level was great definitely not trolling. There was a tense moment towards the end where I was in a safe spot and I saw two pipes. One had coins, one didn't. I went for the coins. Bad idea.
But I managed to zig and zag my way to the other pipe and on the way to victory!
I think of trolling as putting a guaranteed way of dying with 0% warning or notice.
Also Nephy, your course was frustrating… Until I realized hitting the block launched the koopa to the trampoline. Then I was hooked. No way am I gonna give up to any of you APers courses.
Mugen's were interesting. I actually love the NewSMB mechanics and am very familiar with wall jumping. Those courses only took me a couple tries. The coins in the first one really threw off my play, as I wasn't sure where exactly Mario was. The hardest one was the lava Waluigi sprint. Extremely satisfying when I beat it though.
On to Meta's courses!
Ok, just made a new course, this one based on the Donkey Kong Country series, as best as I can with my current tools.
Code: 5073-0000-002A-F8FE
Given I speedrun DKC2 (or try to), I made it super friendly for those who like going fast. But if you dwaddle, I'm sure it won't be too fun xD

I'll try it out in the morning!
I made a Ver. 2 of my "Traipse in the Trees" course. I don't like the enemy placements in the first one and I wanted to modify it for the SMB3 theme I just unlocked. I'll probably do a Ver. 2 of most my courses. It's sort of like a edit/review process for me.
Trust me when I say the Ver. 2's will be superior.
Here it is: B2E2-0000-002A-D389
That actually reminds me.
I pretty much test games for a living, and I do have my own capture card, so if someone puts in a lot of effort into a particular level, I'm definitely up for recording myself playing it from the beginning to see how well I do and then you can really see which parts in particular might be affecting players. As well as getting to see me do a random bunch of stupid things when trying to get your secrets xD
I'm not gonna do this for EVERY person and EVERY course uploaded, but it comes to mind that since I did it with Mugen's first level and it led to him realizing he didn't account for spin jumps, I figure doing something like that for other people could be a nice thing to do if you think it might help you design better.
So yea, let me know if any of you guys want that. ^^
Uploading courses is fun! haha.
I've uploaded 3 already and I think I'm starting to get the knack for it.
First one I uploaded had a GLARING flaw I didn't realize before I uploaded it so I'm gonna quietly pretend it doesn't exist…
New one I just uploaded is
A867-0000-002B-8154
I was going for challenging but was trying to avoid it being VERY hard like the others I uploaded...
The underwater one was too hard I think lol. Anyone who wants to try it, it's here:
FF71-0000-001E-1551
Be warned: It's REALLY hard.
J-Sack and Rin, I'll definitely play your levels when I get the chance. I'll try to comment on everyone's stages :)
Thanks for listening, hope you enjoy!
I'm glad you liked my courses man, I'll try yours too!
I'd love to see an escalation of both of your themes, like having more wii fit trainer levels with more epic tests of balance, as well as having other sonic levels with Sonic-like traps, like spikes and springs. Fun stuff!
Awww thanks….I love designing levels around amiibo. :D
I also time-skipped to get more stuff and the themes for SMB3 and SMW. The creative juices are flowing!
I have tried a few of your levels. I will try more, but kind words and ideas have lead me to work on another course. Sometimes I feel like I put too much thought into it. It is so easy though to get sucked in and go "Well, what if I did this instead of this…."
I also see a trend for me to be making multiple levels in one. I love decisions and mind games I guess.
Noqanky, your puzzle one was really fun. I always enjoy a nice puzzle aspect and after playing so many of other levels that focused on just dumping a bunch of stuff in, it was refreshing. I would also 100% be interested to seeing a captured playthrough of my levels. Especially with the decisions and secrets I have oh so much fun with.
Mickamott, I enjoyed yours as well. Personally, not a fan of the "New Super Mario Bros." feel with the wall jumps and such (all too often do I accidentally wall jump when I think I landed on the platform before). But, even though I am not a fan of that skin in general, I still enjoyed your levels.
Mugen, fuck wall jumping. Not my cup of tea, haha. Maybe one day I will have the patience to work on mastering the wall jumps to landing on a single block, haha. But that is on me. Even though I couldn't master, I still enjoyed the levels.
I believe that is all that I have played so far of yours. Once I finish or need a break from designing my second level, I will try more. (Unless I decide to start MGSV that is...)
Pro-tip: Don't spin in the air. The point of the level is to wall jump, so spinning will just lead to stupid deaths. Judging by the amount of deaths my levels have (more than 2000 between both of them), a lot of people apparently don't grasp that. Glad you enjoyed the levels, though, J-Sack.
Also, for anyone who still hasn't unlocked everything: you don't need to time travel. Just use the new items you get at least once, then spam coins during the allotted five minutes until the delivery truck comes around again. Rinse and repeat until you have everything unlocked.
I have a question for everyone. If there are two paths, does it ruin it to see the other path as you play the path you took?
Not the whole thing, but chunks.
What if it started where you saw the other path and as you went on, you saw less and less?

I always like it in platformers when I see a different room/path somewhere in the level and I have no idea how to get there. Kinda serves as an incentive to explore the level more and do things you might not have done before. Hope that serves as an answer?
Also, comments
Rin: I was talking to you last night, but still, just wanted to say that your levels do indeed feel challenging, but the rewards for me at least felt like proper pay-off for completing them. The underwater level was particularly tough in the second half but it forced me to adjust my playstyle in order to make it through, and as a result I found that it has made me better at underwater levels.
Mick: the second versions of levels you've uploaded are pretty consistent with what you've had before, but I breeeeeezed through them and ignored the main path completely lol. I would say it's ok to make certain fast-paths a bit more challenging. So far the ver.2 of your first course remains the most memorable because of that, the rewards feeling like an extra challenge with great reward.
J-Sack, your greed level was something else…..holy cow was it pretty dang challenging. Loved the theme!
I present two new courses, one Sonic themed, and one Wario themed.

Which levels in particular were the alternate paths too easy Noqanky? Are the powerups too lenient or is the path itself not challenging? In addition it would be nice if you tried the 2.1 versions to see if I made it better or went to far. All I did was put barriers so you couldn't fly over everything and made bonus runs more challenging. Particularly the Big Chance one.
Also J-Sack I unlocked SMB3 and World last night so I'll be making much more of those.
Also new course. Either my best or second best yet.

Mickamott, I unlocked everything on day 1, haha. I'll try your new course once I finish my new one.
Jeez, I keep hitting the amount of bricks and such I can have on screen. Now I hit the max number of transport pipes I could have it seems, haha.

The ones I had in mind were the SMB3 one with the spring and the NSMBU where you just follow the clouds.
So I failed to keep myself off the game and made another course, this time a splatoon-themed one. Splatfest: Fight vs. Flight. Will you bring the fight to the face of the enemy? Or do you prefer to rely on your jumping over gaps? Stay fresh!
