Dressrosa (and Punk Hazard) were intentionally made to reflect previous sagas though.
Anyone else think Rebecca was also intentionally made useless so that Vivi could teach her the ways? (I really am desperately trying to justify her bad character)

Next chapter will probably be an accumulation of Luffy glaring at Dofla while preparing his final blow and flashback-moments. Most likely including a lot of Rebecca crying for help.
After that, the big post-battle party… despite the fact that people will have to pick up the fine slices of what used to be their loved ones (assuming not everyone escaped the birdcage). D:
I really don't understand people asking for things to change up when he already did it this arc and before .
And im still waiting for that fated speech where Dofla rants about Celestial Dragons and the Ds…
Half the crew just left the story in the middle of the arc for a while and a bunch of cool, interesting secondary characters took their place and fought against the main villain group. Isn`t that quite a big change from the usual way the story goes? Also, the tournament was pure awesome, please. Oda just dropped more than a dozen fun characters with imaginative designs into the story without warning and made them fight each other. You could really feel how much fun Oda had with all these characters and with including a tournament in the first place. What makes the whole thing even better is the fact that most of these characters came back to play a part in the story and will continue to do so in the future.
New guy here, I can't help but feel people overlook the fact that Doflamingo has the protection of the world government, not necessarily due to him being a shichibukai alone, but also because he's a Tenryuubito. Even without his title, he's managed to hold the tenryuubito to ransom, that in itself guarantees that the marines can't lay a finger on him. This is why Fujitora can't act, this is why he's decided to let Luffy take the spotlight. So to those who are quick to make ignorant remarks pertaining to Fujitora's passive nature, please look at the facts.

Most people are angry he's let the plot cage continue as is, not that he's not directly interrupting Doflamingo himself. For that storyline, I am curious to see what his plans are.
Dofla and Luffy can stare at each other for however long they want. Dofla can talk about whatever he wants. Rebecca can cry for as long as she wants. As long as Dofla finally gets defeated next chapter, I don't care what goes on during the chapter lol.

That is one good thing to remember about this arc, for sure. Not everyone is happy to have lost the other straw hats for almost a year, but welcome or not it is undeniably a change and it's the same plot device that made the Marineford war and preceding events so interesting.
However, what I - there probably are others - find hard to stomach is how this arc that started with an extremely promising plot (Doflamingo's ties with CP0, Law's plan, Fuji's agenda, exchanging Caesar, revolutionaries, political ties with neighboring countries…) ends once again with the rather formulaic "Luffy rescues a bunch of helpless royal family and a crybaby princess". It doesn't help at all that said crybaby started off as a brave gladiator woman.
It could have gone a different way. It could have not been dragged to death. The pace could have been different, and focused more on advancing the other interesting subplots rather than turning into this overpowered mess that is the Birdcage.

I suppose you can back that claim up with examples. Of this arc. "Before" is a too wide of a term.
Gonna love that moment when gets revealed Dofla's Birdcage is like Moria's zombie control, doesn't dissapear even if he's defeated.
Dressrosa is a great and original arc.
However, the original part isn't great.
And the great part isn't original.

When have we ever gotten a arc that had so much background detail on the villain.
Where near half of the 1 on 1 fights were finish by side characters .
That is just two eg there are more but point is he change up somethings this arc .
Asking for him to change things up is find and all but the manga is 800 chapters.
It's going to have themes\plot points that happen already in other arcs , sometimes to a bigger degree than other times.
For eg this is the first arc in OP where the citizens and everyone else are actively trying to stop the impending doom plot point.

A good time for Tora Fuji to show what his DF can do.
RamistaR always manages to bring a smile to my face, heh
Barto has done alot in this arc. He even got to the finals. He has interacted with all the SH present on the island on a one on one level. So I really really hope he's coming along after this.
By the way watching the anime fight of Fuji and Sabo, apparently Fuji can direct the gravity in any direction he wants. If its canon then there is no excuse.
Plus for all their talk the Marines haven't shown themselves to be that different under Akainu. I wonder how Fuji will explain this to him
Just for the hell of it.

Oda Eiichiro hasn't changed his patterns since the start of one piece. The only reason why people are complaining about it now is because his designs have been poorly written for the past years.

If your talking of certain fundamental aspects of course not .
Complaining now ?
Some of the things people complaining about are the same things i have seen even before i join AP .
When i just use to browse the site.
I'm not in the camp that says Oda has lost it, but this arc makes it hard not to be in that camp. It's been a nasty arc, so far… And I was one of the people defending it when it started.
I think Luffy has gotten way too many powerful allies in One Piece's world. Barely any excitement... I hope he turns against the Revolutionaries for some reason.

He used horizontal gravity against sabo in the manga. It's cannon.
Just for the hell of it.
Oh nice! With this and Psycrow's parodies, we can't say that mangapanda didn't give us good things.

No excuse for what?
There is no excuse.
I'm sure we could find one.
No excuse for what?
For cutting bullcage probably.
Or for digging a tunnel under it. Those are both sensible options.
Bullcage
Razh i really have to thank you for that.
I don't know about you guys but whenever an arc has a lot of characters. I just expect much from the likes of Vergo, Jozu,Marco or those who fought in Dressrosa tournament. I know war has many characters and even a tournament but we weren't properly introduced to this characters. Impel Down on the other way had a lot of characters but they all contributed to the story even the vice-warden(cant remember his name)Buggy, Galdino, Bon-chan, Ivankov. They all mattered.

I don't really get how tbh.
If Fuji was to use his gravity to try and shift/destroy the birdcage wouldn't he most likely end up pulling people into the bars of the cage as a side effect?

Not if he can localize gravity to the area his aerial slash should hit. Like what he used against Sabo when he pushed the buildings, only the gravity would effect less then a milimeter in a straight line. Of course, there shouldn't be people between him and the edge.
But that's just theory until Fuji shows he's capable of such precise gravity slashes.
As for tunneling, don't see why he couldn't do it. No matter how deep strings go, they probably aren't connected together below ground. But since I can't prove it…

Indeed, we have no idea just how precise Fuji can be with his gravity.
It's always had a pretty big area of effect when he's used it up until this point.

Then there's always the issue of how long it would take to dig that tunnel, and just how deep it would have to go.
Also, like you said, we don't know for sure if the birdcage isn't in fact just a huge string sphere that we only see the top half of.

no need for digging tunnel there is a big one in middle of that colesium

Since there's an underground cave right under the city, I'd expect ground would start to crumble by now.
But ultimately, It's of no importance at this point.

Fuji is definitely not trying that hard and it's terribly confusing. But Luffy's going to end Doflamingo soon. Right in the glasses. Right in them pretty glasses. Boom. Headshot.
dammit why is there no chapter this week. The last 2 chapters had no content whatsoever.
I just saw Fury Road. We need some crazy non-donut race in One Piece asap.
Luffys big one?Exactly hundred chapters ago, law one shotted Vergo, Doffys right hand man. That was chapter 690 S.A.D. Law had a great speech and a astonishing move to show. Now, hundred chapters later, doffy will fall by one attack, according to luffy. Maybe something similar is about to happen. Speech about the new age and a destructing move.

I feel like Luffy doesn't really do speeches. He's not a thinker. He probably doesn't consider the impact he's going to have on things. He's just doing what he feels is best to reach his goal.

The glasses will just grow back like Arlong's teeth.

Luffy would become a pirate king expert when someone talks about it lol
could it be awakening the way luffy would beat kidd making his fruit ineffective, changing metal things to rubber?
even if i'm gonna be blasted (or ignored) for this, i really liked fujitoura through all this arc. he got his cool and he knows how to do it. riskin a lot tho.
cheers

I don't think that Luffy's awakening is the same as DD's.
DD can create strings, with awakening he can extend it to objects around him( transforming them).
Luffy is the paramecia that affects his body only.
I'm glad you had a turnaround. I think it's fair to dislike any chapter, unfortunately it feels like many just make up reasons to find a false sense of justification.
Whereas that same effort can be used to find and positive. I think it's a shame how people are poo pooing Rebecca, when she's shown remarkable courage. Not to mention everything she's had to deal with in the past 6-8 hour time span.
I'm sure most people commenting here would be in a state of emotional shock to find out one of their dead loved ones wasn't dead after all, then have multiple confrontations with your parents killer.
I think the biggest issue is as the weeks go by, along with fatigue people just forget those small bits from earlier chapters, including the mad rush while reading the chapter. It's like eating without chewing, you have to take time to let the flavour rest in your tongue.
Well, as I said earlier, I am not a hater. I really love One Piece. But I hate some things that are happening in this arc: BirdCage infinite strength and Fuji Tora. But they are not enough to make me hate the entire Arc. So I can hate some chapters especially when they focus on those things I hate.
As for Rebecca, I really like the character. I honestly think Oda should have given her more along with Viola, they deserve more involvement in the defeat of the family members, but it's not a big issue for me. I am looking forward to see the other strawhats again.

dd's fruit is (supposed to be) paramecia too
