Not satisfied with the chapter.
So much for dragging, lots of wasted freakin slots/panels. And the "break" killed it for me.
But Honestly, maybe it's all about the break.. It's all about the break that made me entirely disappointed.

I was worried in the spoiler thread about the happy cheering. Looks like i was wrong. There is clearly tension in the citizen faces. Even if the countdown was still a bit meh i can't say it looked like the high point of a big party.
I still thinks that Rebecca gets the absolute worst treatment from Oda. At least viola showed some balls and tried to kick doffy. Rebecca never came that close.
Pfft, Mangapanda's translation is a little crappier than usual this time around. Thank god for Aohigie's summary.
Anyway, as for the chapter, here are some quick thoughts:
Overall, this chapter was alright, even though it could have been better. Sucks that there won't be a chapter next week but it's ok, as long as Oda takes his time and doesn't rush it. :)
We knew those last few seconds waiting for Luffy to recover were coming and I loved the twist of Law placing Luffy at just the right place to set it up.Continue to feel indifferent to Manshelly and she is definitely a casualty of the translation in this episode. In one place I thought that Dofla was indicating she'd healed him.
I was hoping we'd see a little bit more of what's going on between Sabo and Burgess, squeezing it out here makes me think that there's still going to be some jumping around during the final Luffy/ Dofla showdown.
But Rebecca. She continues to be the ABSOLUTE WORST. It's telling that the only time she's come anywhere close to doing something effective in the arc it's under Dofla's control and murdering her own Aunt.
If Rebecca had Manshelly's devil fruit then everything on the damn island would look and feel as refreshed as if it had just come out of a six-week spa. Shouldn't she be close to death from dehydration by now?
Honestly, when the guy who calls out the fights proves to be a more valuable player than you, shouldn't you just fall on your sword? Oh, that's right; IT'S BLUNT.
If Oda made this chapter and last week chapter into one, it would have probably made it a lot more enjoyable to me.
The other collected Dressrosa books read very well and looking forward to being able to read the whole thing in one setting. Unfortunately at the rate Viz are releasing them that looks like it's going to be the end of 2016.
19 pages of nothing and break next week…
I am a really patient guy but Oda is really testing me....
3 chapters for luffy to recover... I was really expecting for
this chapter to end with Luffy dealing the finishing blow...
Instead... I got a chapter were 4 pages were about
a 10 second countdown....
Come on Oda, now it's way too obvious that you are
just trying to stretch this arc as much as possible?
Did you decide to continue One piece for another 10 years?
Shitty translation.. Otherwise it was alright and set up the action for after the break. The whole arc will probably last around 5 more chapters, with two of them focusing on the fight, one of them on Sabo/Burgess and the rest on the aftermath.

Oh yeah if its read all at once its going to be more enjoyable since it would be fast and we would have a chapter next to it, it wouldn't be left feeling unfinished, reading it weekly is what makes this feel like its dragging on.
I like the chapter.
I like Rebecca.
I like Law.
I like everyone having trouble, but working together, with the birdcage.
Yup, I do, I do.
If anyone read this post before the chapter. I advice not to read it yet and wait for a better trasnlation. Mangapanda translation is horrible, not even worth reading. I feel more like I just read some spoilers than the actual chapter.
Why fujitora,, the fcking admiral, is pushing cage, he should have been fighting Doflamingo in the 10 minute interval. Zoro is fresh, why he didnt go after Dofla after luffy's gear fourth got used up.
But Rebecca. She continues to be the ABSOLUTE WORST. It's telling that the only time she's come anywhere close to doing something effective in the arc it's under Dofla's control and murdering her own Aunt.

This! Lol
Most of the time, there is a break every 3 or 4 weeks. Why people are surprised I don't know. It was expected, especially with no break last week.
There was a few pages of Gatz talking about "10 years of Dressrosa" thing and I think that wasn't necessary, but Gatz is a real man! Props to him.
It is weird that Cavendish noticed Law's disappearance late. I wonder what he was doing.
Starting from countdown this chapter was really good, but I especially liked the last small panel where Law nonchalantly switched Viola and Luffy. That was one of the smallest and most badass panels in my opinion.
looks like filler to me , as some people said this chapter and the previous one could be blended into one chapter , Rebecca annoying as always , whole 2 first pages wasted for sh!t riku , building tension in a really artificial forced manner ( hate the idea of a countdown ) , bah i'm off for 2 months , dragOda is killing it …
For god's sake Oda please, just give us the goddamn asskicking now, this draggin out stuff is not funny anymore
i hope next chapter Luffy will punch a bloody hole throughhhh Dofla's chest.
Meh, it would have been more interesting if Oda would have just let Rebecca hit Viola, it's not like blunt sword would have done anything.
Good one that would be a kick in the nuts for luffy lol.
Oda really seems to love this arc. Imo, it's the arc in general that's too long(or seems that way because we're reading it one chapter a week). I can't blame these last few chapters for dragging things out because most of this is necessary plot-wise. It'd feel half-assed if he suddenly rushed it all now. The "dressrosa being way too damn long" ship has sailed, we might as well enjoy the ride now. It'll probably be way more fun reading it all at once/watching the anime when it comes out.
Also the countdown totally reminded me of the end of Luffy and Foxy's fight.
The only really bad thing was with the dragging out of the Viola Rebecca part. Like it just screamed the whole cliche of the villain waiting/playing too long. Man that whole thing could've been better but at least it wasn't a stretch getting Luffy there.
Oh and how could Cavendish not notice Law gone for 3 whole minutes? Lol
Those three last chapters looked like a FILLER. Oda is taking to long to end this. Please, FINISH DRESSROSA NOW!
ps-by the way, Cavendish is the most useless character in this arc. He's in the best condition with no bleedy and nothing and he only does jokes. Oda is waiting for something with him? All the other Colliseum characters are more useful…
That would be a kick in the nuts for luffy, if doffy was refreshed after his string surgery.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
That face at the end reminds me of when he punched the celestial dragon back in shabody.
Cavendish is the most useless character in this arc. He's in the best condition with no bleedy and nothing and he only does jokes. Oda is waiting for something with him? All the other Colliseum characters are more useful…
He didn't beat Dellinger or anything… Cavendish is one of the most clutch characters in this arc lmao I love him
If Luffy would have just knocked the piss out of Doflamingo on the last page I would be pleased with this. But now? groan goddammit Oda, this was unnecessary as hell, you could have ended it before the break. And did Oda forget Rebecca's sword can't cut people?:/
And did Oda forget Rebecca's sword can't cut people?:/
Well yeah, but it would've… hurt really bad... It would've been just too much for Rebecca's fragile sensibilities. I don't think she ever would've recovered from the trauma of kinda bruising Viola.
I dont know about you guys but I'm growing bored of this.
I am getting really tired of how dragged out this is getting. Gatz's speech kinda makes up for it a bit. It's also nice see the limit on the healing tear things take effect. Viola and Rebecca's scene feels like it's only there to keep the chapter from ending with Dofla getting Luffy's fist in his face.
I gotta say I do like that everything is being shown at the same time even though it stretches the arc to no end. It really makes you feel the tension and I'd be much more frustrated if 1) Oda left out the struggle or some characters in favor of focusing on Luffy or action always, or 2) if the birdcage could be stopped that easily.
That chapter really got excited and I can't wait to see the conclusion. The confrontation is probably gonna last for two/three chapters at the most. I miss Nami.
Also from what I've gathered, you all wouldn't cry or bat an eyelid if you were about to kill a member of your family against your will? Of course not. I wish Rebecca had had a more important role, I wish she had an actual armor, I wish Oda had given her more. Including "crying" in your criticism though? Pretty cheap

I guess you dont like One Piece for what it always was. Chapter was pretty great and in volume reading it will be blast.
This manga is not paced and planned for most enjoyment out of weekly relase but rather for volume format. I cannot wait till I buy volumes 77 and 78 in english once they get relased.
Sure this arc is long and bit tiring when it comes to still keeping usuall One Piece pace but its true to how it was.
Doflamingo cannot get defeated in different way than other great villains of OP. Do re-check on reality of One Piece and your expectations - you would surely enjoy it more.
After I backed off from forums I must say that there is a lot of rather harsh situations here. Darth absence and his last "boom" was just proof that this place for many became toxic wasteland. Some of you people should enjoy life more than you do, making chapter threads "rant pit" shows only that many of you still see only small part of bigger picture.
We are still probably half way done through "Yonko gets beaten" saga so many of you perhaps should make a pause of not reading something that you mostly complain about.

I guess getting a big metal object in your head hurts like hell all things considered, but it wasn't like it would just instantly kill her. Maybe she changed sword off screen and decided to do nothing with it..
I dont know about you guys but I'm growing bored of this.
Maybe get more of time without One Piece and then read it in volumes to get blasted by it? What feels slow in weekly relase format feels like crazy ride when you hold 10-12 chapters in your hands.

Cabbage is very self-concentrated person and looks like he was so much into looking whats happening with Luffy that he missed moment when Law teleported himself away.
No one's saying they hate One Piece. But this was the definition of a filler chapter.
This thread would be at least thirteen pages by now if it was just a great build up chapter, but it was kinda bogged down because it mostly felt like a retread of last chapter apart from Gatz speech.

One Piece "wasn't" like that, i think the problems started when Oda got his health problems. The chapters were more dinamic and the pace more consistent before. Three chapters repeating the same faces over and over and over with the same action over and over and over that's what Kubo does. Maybe the action was too long or maybe he put too many characters doing one same thing (pushing a wall, fairies running etc..). I don't know that's, how i feel by reading it (also in volume, for me, Punk Hazard was the weakest arc of all)
Why Darth got banned? (just asking)
I wish Ida would go back to 15-20 page chapters instead of giving us 1-2 pages a week like he is now
I must say, that this chapter's cover page is the best cover page ever.
No matter what Oda does now, I will forever love this climax for making Gatz one of its central figures.
So much talk about "OP is better when reading it in bulk!"
Well yeah, of course you skip the experience of weekly waits, and can plow through dozens of weeks worth of progress all at once, but the chapters are still written for a weekly publication format, with chapter beginnings, dramatic endings 17 pages later, and hopefully some content in between to make the payoff of the ending feel good. Of course all chapters are linked to each other in a continuous story, but chapters should still stand on their own, and sluggish pacing will be sluggish pacing even if you can pull up the next chapter right away. Its still fun to read chapters alla t once, don't get me wrong, thats how I consumed Eyeshield 21, which I love. But you can still feel it when the pacing slows down, and progress seems minimal. The chapters individual length is the same, and you don't read them any faster when read in bulk.
In fact, If I could narrow my perspective to just this chapter, I'd probably find it more entertaining than I do, because the dramatic beats and events would seem fresher. Reading Dressrosa all in bulk would highlight just how much is repeated in this climax.
The Gladiators who initially were opponents later rally behind Luffy, and its a dramatic moment. Then later, the remaining gladiators who were once opponents rally behind Luffy, and its a dramatic moment. Why couldn't the gladiators we care about be the ones to delay Doffy? It'd give more gravitas to him tearing through them.
In chapter 785 a tearful member of the royalty enables the Dressrosans to get up and continue fleeing the birdcage. Then, in chapter 788, a tearful member of royalty enables the Dressrosans to get up and continue fleeing the birdcage - only with healing instead of encouragement this time. And then this week, we have another big "Don't give up! I do believe in Luffy, I do I do! Clap your hands!" loudspeaker speech, which not only feels reminiscent of Rikus speech 4 chapter earlier, but also the fishman Island climax. Hell, the countdown bit was already done at Davy Back Fight.
And the chapter ends with Luffy showing up to face off against Doflamingo, furious at the latter being in the process of hurting Luffys friends… again.
Speaking of, if you so wanted, could read through the chapters of Rebecca being saved by Sabo, by Kyros, by Robin, and then Luffy - the last three all as "last minute rescue!" moments- all in one go. The last one especially feels like Oda just wanted to end a chapter with Luffy returning with a dramatic save, and worked backwards from there.
I appreciated the "Lets All Work together and push!!!" bit which everyone hated last chapter, but overall the cyclical nature of events just makes chapters feel padded, and reads as if Oda is going through a list of "give X character a moment before the end". On their own, I like them fine, but all together...not so much.
This chapter was not as bad as last week. I'm not even annoyed at Rebecca anymore; you kinda get numb to it after 10 thousandth time she was inept so no biggie. For me the most annoying thing was the 2 week break. However, we will get at least likely a legendary chapter after the wait, so I can deal.
This arc may be drawn out, but it's not terrible; I will take 'too long' over 'piece of sh*t' anyday…........cough 'FT Avatar Arc' cough..................Yeah,okay; so I set the bar bottom of the Marianas Trench level low, but at least the point is driven home now!
I didn't feel like waiting for the mangastream version this week because the summary itself sounded pretty meh.
and yeah, my least favorite chapter in a while. Time for me to be angry.
Why is Rebecca crying to Luffy? At the very least, make her be angry or defiant because last week she said she would have to fight too! I'm so fucking sick of this shit. I'm so sick of Luffy being the one to fix everyone's problems. Of course, it has always been there, but the characters had their own arcs to overcome, too. Nami proved herself to be a fighter in her own right, Chopper found value in being a monster, Zoro grew to care about Luffy and the rest of the crew. Robin opened herself up to the crew, but that was in combination of all of the crew's efforts. It isn't just Luffy who helped to free Brook's shadow. Rebecca doesn't get to stand up on her own and prove her abilities at all and half of this chapter was dedicated to showing how awesome Luffy is instead. AGAIN and it's always SET UP. People say there's expecting too much out of Rebecca, but I only expect a little and I don't even get that. Why set up her growing stronger and becoming stronger for herself at all? WHY? This is the worst.
Everything else is the exact same crap as last two weeks. You really could've just cut to the final spread of this chapter right away. This IS what you call a filler chapter.
The only good thing is Doffy's line about trusting his family, but not liking betrayal. It explains why he trsted one single family member to have such a vital role in his plan. His trust in his family is what essentially took him down.
I enjoyed the chapter, maybe more than a chapter of fists Dragonball style, still I think that if Dofla doesn't get OHKO'ed at the very beginning of the next chapter, all this stuff is going to suck big hairy balls.
As for the pacing.
I remember reading Thriller Bark week after week and I hated it, it had an horrendous pace and whatever, and Impel Down wasn't much better.
But when I read the final volumes they had a whole different pacing and were much more enjoyable, so I learnt to wait for the volumes to give my judgement about pacing.
We're all anxious for the story to progress, so this weekly agony is not helping, but I'm sure the pace the arc will have when everything is released and you can read it in one sit will be totally different.
If we blame Oda for dragging (we can, we can not, but it's objective), we should look into ourselves and try to understand if we're too anxious or not.
No matter what Oda does now, I will forever love this climax for making Gatz one of its central figures.
What Oda shown now with Gatz changes watching start of Dressrosa with how Gatz was shown at first. We even seen Spartan lately against Doflamingo.

Your first line makes me skip rest of your post, really.
Oda doesnt seem to care much about changing pace for more weekly enjoyment. Just look at Dressrosa and its pace.
Edit: Okay I am after reading whole thing and still I see non of it as issue. Theme of Doflamingo hurting Luffy friends and it being a cycle that is shown again and again also adds to what is comming to Doflamingo - breaking that cycle.
Gatz just now reminded me of those wrestlers who takes the mic and speaks bad of the city's local sports teams.
Well..
It sure will be bit sad to see Doflamingo being one of very fiew characters in One Piece that will die.
I was expecting Sunny team soon lol. I guess the fight will last at least 1-2 chapters, 2-3 chapters for the after battle, 1 chapters for luffy to get a ship to zou, maybe after that we get to see sunny team.
Unless we will only see luffy get to Zou and go search for sunny team(some good number of chapters again)
Really disappointed with Rebecca, you would think that after so many years of storytelling, Oda would know how to make a female character interesting. The only thing this girl does is cry, and cry, and cry, until all her problems are solved. Oda chose once again to dump to the garbage even the smallest chance a character had for redemption in exchange for Luffy's 1000th cool sudden appearance. Feels like Bleach more and more. First time i am telling this but this arc needs to end now, what was once hyped to be the best One Piece arc with the best One Piece villain has turned out as a dragfest of repeated patterns.
difficult to rate a chapter were so little happens
Daz hits the nail on the head in a very eloquent and coherent manner. As I was going through the chapter I thought to myself, "this would be great, but how many times have we had encouraging montage speeches this arc?" This one at least had the distinction of being more anticipatory than desperate or purely hopeful but that doesn't make it all that much better. The cyclical nature of both the fights and the padding between them really does dampen the climax. Worse, new potholes keep opening up and Doflamingo waits the entire speech before forcing Rebecca to attack Violet with a dull sword.
So whole chapter was 2 minutes and a manga chapter = 2 anime episodes so ….
My biggest problem with Rebeccas handling here is the implicit suggestsion that what happens is her fault for not doing what her Daddy wanted (i.e. staying put)
Wow, people are complaining about Rebecca whining while she's forced to cut down her own aunt. I understood why they were complaining before but this is just disgusting. Do you expect her to break free of Doffy's control?

apart from that one time where she fought daily on a colosseum full of criminals while other character would have went crying in a corner after they died of fear
really, what exactly was she supposed to do against doflamingo?become a super dressrosian and oneshot him?
