Well this Chapter would have been better last week. The last one was useless. Tired of waiting but Gatz has been a revelation for a character and the countdown does build tension. It just that we are waiting a week for just 2 minutes.
Chapter 789: Lucy!!

Did Oda forget that Becky has a goddamn blunt sword?
Maybe Doffy can make her noodle arms cause some fractures but I could not help but laugh at the gravitas Oda wrote that scene with. Viola crying so hard and begging Rebecca to look away to spare her the gore is only warranted if she is going to be cut in two by an iceberg slash.

Thanks but still palace isn't safe

It's been a problem with the girls. Yeah, it was a small detail that Nami stumbled a fell when she was fighting with the fishmen in Fishman Island, but she should be past that. She showed she learned more stuff in terms of fighting. Even Shirahoshi ends up wishing to become stronger by the end of the arc. The moment with Monosuke groping the girls is also a wierd moment like that. Here's these two pretty life-hardened women and they're fooled by this kid because women think kids are cute! The Vacum lady, all of the dead mothers in this arc. It all kind of piles up and at this point there's loads of it and every time there is a subtle bit like that it keeps adding up.
Momo groping is another anime\manga trope where the kids get away with stuff to make the males characters angry .
It really don't matter how the characters they doing it to are . -
I'll suppose I'll weigh in.
First, having time limits so close in a manga makes for some wonky pacing, whatever. It was really more of a chapter to set-up the final stretch between Luffy and Doflamingo (no pun intended). Is everyone really all fuddled together? Because it doesn't look like Birdcage has turned anyone to hamburger yet….I suppose everyone is also trying to push it back (Zoro and Fujitora). Size proportions and all that.
Naturally Viola doesn't hold a candle to Dofla, but points for trying to stop him. And he takes a step further by forcing Rebecca to kill her with his powers, which is pretty dastardly if I say so myself. I think we can all agree that Rebecca's whole...arc? was jumbled around a bit, and I'm not saying it was flawless, but....I mean, being forced to kill a family member with a blade? Fighter or not, that would put anyone in a state of panic and fear.
Really the star continues to be Gatz, praising Lucy's efforts before unmasking his identity (again, no pun intended) to the whole town…country? whatever.
Dat Luffy glare at the very end. Hohoho, you'd better run Doflamingo.
EDIT: forgot it wasn't the sharpest of tools. Well, I doubt Viola could just break things over her head with ease like Luffy. Swing it hard enough to cause bleeding/head trauma?

Thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and say Rebecca is a piece of sh** but Riku is worse, pacifist my ass he's the worst king I've ever seen in any story, I'd rather have Joffrey as King, heck I'm glad Doflamingo preyed on his weak ass in an era where piracy was rampant and corruption was widespread he thought he could play garden tea party with his country and live in peace and this, to an extent, would have been fine in the grandline or someplace but in the new world where Yonkou are running around claiming territories. He must have attended Reveries to know that he needed to change his attitude, bolster his defences, recruit some strong henchmen with his wealth. Worst king ever, and his grand daughter is a spitting image of him, some may claim she's like Scarlet, heck no that redhead was brave when the situation called her to be. Even Rebecca's old man had to smack her around as a toy because he saw she was afraid. Only redeeming factor for her is she's 16. Maybe she'll mature one day and be a great role model / leader but I doubt she'll tell her kids about how she was trash that was an inconvenience to everyone in Dressrosa.

One Piece Abridged: Mangapanda Edition – Chapter 789I lost it at the pi.
The arc really is full quite a few plot holes. Like brought up previously in the thread, Why didn't they decide to go out from the underground port? It was connected with the outside wasn't it? Why didn't Doflamingo float up and look for Luffy that way? Not use his powers right away to find Luffy? There's plenty more.

Coming from Rebecca of all people even with Flamingo strength it would've tickled her at worst

^LoL
The final SINGLE attack was hyped. I guess a Gatling final is out of the picture.

EDIT: forgot it wasn't the sharpest of tools. Well, I doubt Viola could just break things over her head with ease like Luffy. Swing it hard enough to cause bleeding/head trauma?
No, actually… I'm pretty sure Rebecca switched her blunt sword with a sharp one. Hence why that speech "father, if the time came, then I...". She was all willing to fight and kill if necessary.

Thanks.

It really don't matter how the characters they doing to are .I don't like that trope in the first place, but it's even more distracting if it's characters like Robin or Nami, you know more mature/voice of reason characters and usually the offending boy gets his come-ups.

Why should that matter , all that would happen is don would make her hit\stab Viola until she dead. -

Holy mother of god. All the plot holes I've missed was just revealed to me. Looking back at it, this arc was not very good after all
I still think it's the best arc post-TS, though. It's still pretty flawed, but I think in terms of character and themes (barring Rebecca of course), it's good and that's what matters to me.

I'm really surprised no one made this pun sooner.

How many times is Oda gonna use characters to make these kinds of speeches in the series, its getting too cliche

Every speech is different in context, so who cares.

Look, if we are going to put so, every arc had flaws one way or another. But thats the charm of One Piece. It's the greatest shonen ever created (personal opinion), but it's not void of flaws. But sometimes, many times they are not even plotholes, it's just the direction the author wants the plot to head, plain and simple. What I don't like one bit is people complaining about things that had already happened in similar fashion previously in past arcs.
-
I'm really surprised no one made this pun sooner.
Was cheesy but had to be done at least once, I wonder what he'd have to say for himself.

Every anime ep =1 or 2 manga chapters so anime of this parts will become trash
-
Hello,
I really hate the previous chapter. I am tired of the Dressrosa arc and especially the birdcage and Fujitora. But man, what a great chapter this one is. I liked and enjoyed every single panel of it. And I'll like it more when I'll read the official jump translations. I am looking forward to what's coming.I'm glad you had a turnaround. I think it's fair to dislike any chapter, unfortunately it feels like many just make up reasons to find a false sense of justification.
Whereas that same effort can be used to find and positive. I think it's a shame how people are poo pooing Rebecca, when she's shown remarkable courage. Not to mention everything she's had to deal with in the past 6-8 hour time span.
I'm sure most people commenting here would be in a state of emotional shock to find out one of their dead loved ones wasn't dead after all, then have multiple confrontations with your parents killer.
I think the biggest issue is as the weeks go by, along with fatigue people just forget those small bits from earlier chapters, including the mad rush while reading the chapter. It's like eating without chewing, you have to take time to let the flavour rest in your tongue.

yep i like OP but it's still a shonen battle manga that full of cliche stuff and tropes .
Still somethings people call plot holes i don't . -
Luffy recuperating his Haki in exactly 10 minutes (to the second) is pretty ridiculous… His haki recuperation could even be used as a clock at this rate.
-

Well it's not like there's many arcs to choose from in the first place. But if we took the best parts of the various arcs and put them together, that might make for something worthwhile I reckon.
-

I wish there was romance in it though that developed as time went on, the only thing we've gotten post timeskip was Blackbeard asking Bonney to be his bitch. And baby 5's personality quirk, I guess…

It's the level of flaws to me, FI and PH were ultimately average, but I can consider Dressrosa actually "good" because of various reasons. The main is is that this is the only Post-TS arc I really give much crap about anyone besides the Strawhats and the themes aren't as clunkily handled. Doflamingo is my favorite villain in the series, Fujitora, Bartolomeo, Cavendish, Sabo and Koala, some of the gladiators and Robin have been all cool. The flashback along with Corazon was great. There is a lot more great stuff than the previous two arcs.
Regarding the plot holes - they will be holes if they won't be adressed whatsoever. I was more cool with Fujitora staying one the sideleines at first, but at this point there has to be some concrete explanation otherwise it'll come off as sloppy writing. The underground port is such an obvious overlooked thing at this point, too. When Doflamingo can deal with all the fodder with his awakening ability, why does he control Rebecca and Viola; why doesn't he float up again to find Luffy better? Plain old wish to see people suffer doesn't work anymore now that he's serious. I liked that his connection to his family was brought up this chapter, for example. It explains the Sugar thing away. AT LEAST adressing these things shows that he author cares and at this point it's still possible, but at some point it gets distracting.
-
I consider Dressrosa one of the most memorable arcs to date. Hope no one is going to jump on my throat for saying this.
yep i like OP but it's still a shonen battle manga that full of cliche stuff and tropes .
Still somethings people call plothoes i don't .I know that. Why isn't Fujitora pushing the cage away? Well, he must have his reasons. And I'm sure is related to his modus operandi, of prioritizing citizens safety above taking down the enemy and hurting someone innocent in the process. That tendency to forget the small details so easily is what is hurting this forum.

Yeah, yeah, I can tell by just looking at your sig and avatar XD

Oda has done more for Viola in these last two chapters than the entire arc. Now I'm actually going to miss her.
Yes. THIS. Fuck you, Oda.
I understand your frustration, but is this necessary? Seems melodramatic to me.
Did Oda forget that Becky has a goddamn blunt sword?
A baseball bat to the head can be deadly, maybe not in One Piece though…

Here we have another example of reader who missed the small details.

There are no "small details" I'm missing. I think you are extrapolating a bit too much.
If you're talking about the bit in 772 where she's asking for her father to let her try to fight, I question the sincerity of those words as being anything other than feeling like a guilty deadweight in the moment because minutes before this she was running away thinking to herself "I don't wanna fight anymore!!!" Kyros also immediately shuts her down and a few chapters later we have multiple pages of flashbacks dedicated to pacifist philosophy wank and Becky ends up crying and dropping her sword when Kyros says her hands are still clean. Then again if Oda wanted to stay true to how he characterized Rebecca he shouldn't have had her gung ho about trying to kill Doffy 12 chapters later. Anyway there's not a single panel ever showing Rebecca trying to take up a new blade and the sword she is using in this chapter has the same design as the blunt sword she's been running around with for the entirety of the arc. If Oda wanted the audience to know that her blade is real now I hope he would have the sense to make it more obvious.
Look, if we are going to put so, every arc had flaws one way or another.
What I don't like one bit is people complaining about things that had already happened in similar fashion previously in past arcs.Every time sometime tries to defend DR by saying "well every arc has flaws" they fail to list what these flaws were or how they compare in sheer scale to the number of problems this arc has.
-

I think it's more of Oda explaining certain things but people don't like it or they want a detail explanation on other things.
Also what you said .Every time sometime tries to defend DR by saying "well every arc has flaws" they fail to list what these flaws were or how they compare in sheer scale to the number of problems this arc has.
That is always going to be subjective to tell the truth cause what someone see as a flaw another person might not .

This isn't a filler chapter it's a typical climax chapter with way too much stuff before it that sets up the final fight essentially being a collloseum bout.
-
Was it really necessary for luffy to use busoshoku haki: hardening to stop a "controlled" Rebecca's sword slice -_-
-

Dude! They are going to jump over you for telling the truth.
-
Overall I like Dressrosa, and in the eventual after-arc thoughts it will get a lot of praise from me. I loved the entire set-up, Law's Flashback and much of this final climax has been genuinely enjoyable (the chapter two weeks ago being a great example). What I don't like is the post-sugar part, how the fights were handled and how the women continue being more like house wives. As a weekly series, it has been lacking, severely in certain parts. Law's flashback proved just how good this manga can be on a weekly basis, and seeing what we got around it was a disappointment.
So far, Dressrosa had an amazing set-up, but it hasn't managed to live up to it's expectations.
-
she doesn't have CoO
Rebecca does have CoO. That was her main method of fighting in the Colliseum. (making enemies knock themselves out of the ring with their own attacks by predicting their moves with her haki )
-

A sharp tool hurts no matter.

How can Ace die without knowing Sabo is alive? Fuuuuuu~ it's like Oda wrote him back in due to popular demand and now Law has taken Zoro's second place on the polls he's got no choice but to keep Law around for the foreseeable future :ninja:
-

Rebecca wants her some Luffy in this chapter and Luffy saves her. So… here you have your romantic development... Oh wait... xD
-
I understand your frustration, but is this necessary? Seems melodramatic to me.
No, I'm exactly that frustrated with how much Oda is obsessed with making this manga FOR TEH MENZZ. Every time something like that happens with any of the female characters I think back to Nami's flashback and how Nami ultimately does learn to fend for herself. This is contradicting what Bellemere said about girls having to be strong, too from the same flashback. Why is he so obsessed with this?
