So a sequel to the reboot, Enemy Unknown, was announced recently and it seems very promising as it's essentially improving on everything from the past game.
The story starts with XCOM losing very quickly to the aliens and the planet being taken over. You're now a group of freedom fighters (which could be considered terrorists too) trying to take back the planet.
Features confirmed:
- Levels are now procedurally generated like the 1994 game
- All buildings are destructible/collapsible
- Aliens are now much more powerful after being spliced with human DNA, so grunts essentially will be peace keepers for the aliens, like their human police
- You now have a backpack that's used for loot. It's not a full inventory system but you can loot enemy and teammate bodies for stuff to use on other missions. If you don't get to these items before a certain counter counts down then they decay into less useful things
- You can now carry wounded teammates back to your ship
- In the first game you could never get the drop on aliens and they would always get to cover when you saw them. Stealth is somewhat of a focus in this game though and you can have the element of surprise if you play well enough
- Full mod support
IGN's been doing articles all this week on the game. Here's a few.
