Roundabout is what kept me from dropping the anime during part 1. Part 1 didn't engage me in any way, really, didn't liked any of the characters, nor the fights, or the history itself. The ending is what kept me going, and I thank for that because part 2 is one of the best things I've ever watched. Ever.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part II: Do the Dio Walk!
-

I have a fondness for part 1 but it is definitely one of the more "cliche shonen" parts of the series, with Jonathan as the true blue noble Jojo of the bunch. In fact I remember reading once the idea that it was Erina's influence that turned the Joestar line into what we know today.
-
Jonathan is actually sort of refreshing these days; a bit too much anti-heroes, a truly noble soul stands out.

That might be where part of my fondness comes from, really.

Well, technically he is from the late 80s so he is not really from these days.

Heh, now I'm imagining Jonathan as the manga equivalent of Captain America
-
I still like part 1 because of the whole thing between Jonathon and Dio, two exact opposites in character. Since it was such a short part it helped him not become too grating. After watching the part one anime I can definitely say the fights lacked impact compared to part two.
Also I will say he is the Captain America of manga. In what the world is at this moment, he shows that it is still good to be a overall nice person even when the odds are against you.
-
Captain is also a character I can't really enjoy either. He works really well now (talking about the MCU here) because of the supporting characters, but going back to first movie I can't enjoy him nearly as much as I do in the other movies he is in.

Did any mortal man other than Jonathan Joestar manage to earn lifelong friendship and trust of Robert E. O. Speedwagon?
Check and mate, atheists.
-
William Zepelli probably would've earned that too….but we all know how that went.

Another great episode. Every episode I watch shows how much stuff I have forgotten.
! I remember Okuyasu's brother being killed by the Chilly Pepper stand user and him wanting to get revenge, but I forgot about the father part and how screwed up it was. Despite not being a good person, I still get a little teary eyed when he saves Okuyasu and it's really grim seeing his brother on the power lines. I also forgot how much I liked Koichi even early on in the series.
-
Great episode once again. They did a really good job with my least favourite part of DiU, let's hope they keep it up.
On the episode count:! There is not going to be an Echoes part 2. This means one of two things: either they'll adapt all of the fight into one episode (it's only 4.5 chapters long, they've already adapted Akira's call to Jotaro), or the second part of the fight gets adapted in Surface part 1 (they flow really well into each other because it's Kobayashi that talks about Hazamada to Josuke and Koichi). This is not unprecedented, since the end of D'arby the Gamer took place in Vanilla Ice part 1.
We'll see next week, but I'm still not convinced about this being only 39 episodes long, not with the current pace and added scenes like Okuyasu visiting Josuke this week (which I loved). I also think that the 6 chapter fights would be incredibly rushed if they were only one episode long. -

Looking back on it, I have a few questions about Kira and Josefumi's fusion.
Now when Josefumi made Kira eat the fruit, there was a much different result than what normally happens;usually another part of the person's body turns to stone. Where here, it was someone else who turned to stone.
Now was this new property of the fruit the result of being grown on the wall eyes? That recieved their own powers of eqilivent exchange via the holy corpse and Johnny's sacrifice.
Because if so, then that clears up a lot of confusion that there's been. So really, the fruit and the wall eyes don't have any connection to each other; they have different origins hand exchange differently.
But even then, Josefumi and Kira both fell into the wall eyes when the earthquake hit. So how much of their exchange was influenced by the fruit V.S the Wall Eyes?
My second question is….well really it's the question that we've had since the beginning of Jojolion; who "is"Josuke?
We've known that he's a fusion for quite some time now. But this chapter really got me thinking; is he really "one with the looks and traits of the other" or is he someone...new?
I mean, when Josefumi fed Kira the fruit, Kira did not look like he was doing so hot. Actually, it got me thinking that Kira could have very well already been dead or at least braindead by then (unresponsive, glassy/glazed eyes, ect). But after Josefumi fed Kira the second fruit, it didn't look like he was gonna survive either.
All this time Josuke has been trying to find out who he is; but what if he isn't either of them anymore? What if he didn't really "lose", his memories, he just doesn't have any. He isn't Kira and he isn't Josefumi; he is Josuke, And the day that Yasuho pulled him out of the ground is the day he was "born".

Oh my god.
Best Slam/Jojo OP ever. Seriously, it flows amazingly well.

You oughta check out their other JJBA ones.
Their Oingo Boingo one is the best.
They reanimated the entire freaking ending -
Of course I end up spending waaay too long in the Spacejam part of youtube. Did find this gem though:
-
Epic Tunes x Quad City DJs is my aesthetic I need more of it in my life.
Plus the JJBA ones are magical.
Will post that ending one I mentioned purely for how gold it is.
They also did one for the part 4 ending… and all other JJBA parts.

The day that there finally is, the internet will explode.

For all we know it could be the stand of Jojolion's big bad, lol.

The quality of this adaption is through the damn stratosphere.
When they are able to make the likes of The Lock with this much panache, one can't help but feel excited about upcoming encounters.
Are future parts gonna keep getting better? It's almost hard to imagine.
-
I'm not sure if we'll see it this course, but two I'm interested in are Highway Star and how the animate Ratt's human Jell-O cubes

So after watching this episode, what's people's opinion of Koichi. I get the feeling he probably isn't well liked among many people, but I personally like him. Sure he can be afraid at times, but he can get in the action and be a genuine badass even with a stand that he has. When he suddenly gets super saiyan hair and gets completely calm, I can't help but grin. He's not my favorite character of this part, but he's still pretty great.
As far as the episode goes, it was good. Only thing I will say is the first confrontation felt stretched in some ways. Maybe it was because I wanted the later stuff to happen, but near the end of that part I just wanted it to be over. Still a pretty fun part where Josuke deals with the situation like a boss.

I've always liked Koichi, largely due to those traits you listed. He's essentially Usopp, and the thing I've always found compelling about both is even when they're terrified they pull through.
In fact, one thing I always liked about the Love Deluxe encounter is that despite feeling like he needed Josuke's help nearly the whole time, he was able to resolve the situation on his own.

A Koichi and Usopp fan, you have good tastes my friend. I do look forward to the Love Delux, because while I remember very little of it I remember it being another great Koichi moment.
Also, this once again illustrates why I love this part so much. You have a stand that can't cause physical harm and only produce noise. Despite that, Koichi saved his mother and sister, and had this bully become his servant all because of using sounds. Abilities that require creativity to win a fight or get out of various situations.
-
I don't think liking Koichi is a contrarian opinion.
-
I don't remember Koichi going Super Saiyan tho. Can we expect a different opening with Echoes now?
-
Tamami's voice actor nailed it, perfect fit.
Very good episode in general, refreshing to see a conflict resolved quickly after a lengthy three-parter. I've got a feeling that the pace of the DiU anime is going to be way better than with SC.
What about Tamami's body size though, the difference between his first and last appearance could've been more pronounced. Reread the first echoes chapter, he seemed way taller than he did in the episode. Maybe they thought the character is so ridiculous, that even the idea of making him initially imposing is laughable, maybe the difference would've been to jarring to viewers in one episode -

Yeah he's not Iggy levels of terrible and useless comedic relief introduced to make another character already being shitted on look bad. That people like for some weird reason.
-
Koichi will never be as adorable as Okuyasu.

This was completely true.
Then Pet Shop and Vanilla Ice fight took place.
And then it wasn't true anymore.

Nah pretty much felt the same indifference and annoyance towards Iggy even as Ice was getting his kicks off route 66.
It also doesn't help that the Pet Shop fight decent enough as it was felt like a blatant designated animal fight.
-
Well then, I guess Araki's canine intolerance can rub off on an unsuspecting reader after all.
Not all designated animal fights are equal especially if one has a soft spot for designated cat fights.
But honestly, even if that doesn't mean much, I would easily put Pet Shop among the best Stardust Crusaders fights.
-

I like dogs…..just not Iggy, whatever he was supposed to be.
-
Iggy did have a snout only a mother could love.
-
I always liked Iggy
Stop it with the Iggy hate!!!
-
Echoes' theme is pretty cool.
-
Another great episode.
! Love the team work with Josuke and Koichi, outsmarting their opponent to win in the final moment. Also liked the little part hinting on what's going to happen next. Solid stuff
-
For those who don't know, Hazamada wasn't this short in their first encounter.
-
Neither was The Lock guy. In manga, both were regular adults and suddenly became as tall as Koichi after they were defeated. I liked it that way, too bad they decided to make them short from the go.
-
Anyone else expected that Yukako cameo?
-
Well, pacing certainly picked up. It's lining up perfectly with my list so far.
Looking like 39 Episodes is more and more probable now.

I have to agree that it seems like that right now.
I still hope they slow down later on, though, especially during the 6-chapter fights. I don't want them to rush or skip some scenes. -
The opening is so cool I only noticed now that it isn't in 3D like the other ones. Maybe for a second opening ?
-
These transitions scenes, Part 4 has better than directing than Part 3 so far (this episode was outsourced aswell).
-
boy did this episode ever remind at how completely pointless Surface was
-
Urgh, that cold opening had me cringing into the intro sequence. I hate, hate, hate damage to the eye (I picked the wrong story to follow, I know). I was expecting Jotaro to use Star Platinum at the end there, but the way they handled Hazamada instead was unexpectedly hilarious.
I wonder why they had to change Surface's (and for that matter Echoes) name for the subs though. Yeah, they are band references like everything else, but they're also generic words, nothing like having a character named J. Geils. I don't get it.
-

So much for turning a blind "eye" to the horrors within JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
-
One thing I've always wondered.
Does Hazamada still have a stand? I know Josuke broke the doll into bits, but going purely off of how stands work shouldn't that have killed Hazamada? Unless it's a super long distance automatic stand that works without the users input, when your stand is destroyed you die; DIO can attest to that. (And even then if you "kill" a long distance stand it always comes back).
I'm just asking because even though we only see Hazamada once or twice after this, there's never any indication that he still has Surface.
Maybe he just doesn't use it, or like…does he have to have some sort of medium to channel it though? If he were to come across a department store dummy would that become the next "surface"?
