It would have been nice to see sabo rushing towards the battlefield with a strained face showing us he hopes to not be late. Instead we got an out of nowhere appearance plus him having the time to smile at luffy. It's cheesy. Also it wouldn't have hurt if Oda made Burgess detect sabos attack and block it in the last second thusshowing us that a commander of BB the new yonkou can at least look competent.
You forget, we've had at least 2 chapters with a very clear lead up to the events with Sabo and Burgess this chapter. We knew Sabo was on his way thanks to his conversation with Koala and then later we see Koala wondering what's keeping Sabo while she spied on Burgess. I understand what you wanted to see but Sabo certainly didn't come out of nowhere.

Nowhere for me is the sudden appearance of sabo. Oda took his time to show burgess watching luffy fight then jump all the way down why not show sabo at.least spotting burgess and rushing.to.him? It Would have cost 2 panels? To me thatscene made sabo and burgess look bad.
Edit: Burgess has also been forshadowed by koala when she called sabo. How bad would it have been if burgess appeared out of "nowhere" to stab luffy?
If I remember correctly Apoo managed to cut Kizaru in half in the last page of a chapter.
Sabo caught Burgess off guard. Don't look too much into power level.
Apoo didn't cut/attack kizaru out of nowhere. He observed the fight for a while even commenting on drakes Df.

10 minutes of cat and mouse, plus Sabo vs. Burgess would be more than satisfying.
In this arc Luffy fought Don Chinjao and other gladiators, ran around by being attacked by the Donquixote Family including Pika, fought Doflamingo's clone on at least two separate occasions, fought Bellamy who used haki at least once, and was blown up by Trebol. All of this while fighting Doflamingo off and on, based on what "facts" are you saying Luffy was really not really weakened?
Doflamingo had his fights around. He put some effort into Law as he wouldn't go down and Law attack Dofla with a life ending attack.
Luffy escaped Trebols blast with Law unscathed.
Doflamingos clone counts as Doflamingos ability, so Doflamingos clone as Doflamingo fighting Luffy…
Bellamy must have weakened Luffy so much.
Bellamy to Doffy is basically what Law did to Doffy with the injection shot. Then the Gamma knife is a whole new story.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Facts are what's shown in the manga, not our own interpretations.
It was clearly stated in the manga that both of them are weakened. Luffy was even panting before he went G4, while Doflamingo hasn't shown any signs of fatigue.
What's shown in the manga is Doflamingo being told that he would die from that attack (I'll touch up on the "repairing" in a sec), So because Doflamingo doesn't show signs of fatigue to you it means he hasn't been weakened. That's ridiculous IMO.
It's like saying when Whitebeard got magma fisted by Akainu, whitebeard didn't really show signs of Fatigue when he split the island in two and floored Akainu.
There was no confirmation on who's more weakened, only who got hit by a more dangerous move. But that all depends on how you look at it, since DD clearly stated that he was repairing his organs.
DD actually clearly stated he wasn't regenerating or restoring his organs and applying only "first aid". Maybe a transplant after? Not sure. But that's what he had said.
Doflamingo was shown bleeding from the mouth like crazy and was still about to take out Law before the supposed first aid, then after he couldn't get up for a moment. Law countershocked him and then he then got up. Everyone was shocked he was still alive able to move. Those are the facts.
Doflamingo was feeling pretty damn good at that moment, then the gamma knife brought him down by a lot. Doflamingos endurance is insane, you'll just have to accept he can still kick Luffys ass after that assault.
Flamingo was getting hit for the FIRST time by Luffy like never before straight after.
Luffy was able to fight Crocodile shortly after getting stabbed in the gut, by his hook, without any shown handicap. The same can be said with DD.
You can't compare a willpower, meat regen fight seriously can you? Besides Luffy had PLENTY of rest before his rematch against Croco whereas Doflamingo had to get right back up from there, which again displays his feat.
He was never shown groaning, slowing down or shaking after that attack. Unlike Luffy's last G4 attack, where he was shown wobbling.
You clearly don't know how a fight works do you? Any fighter has a series of attacks back and forth and then goes for the big blow to ensure victory. The more you hit your opponent the less he can take, when the opponent reaches the point where he can't take any more, he will fall unconscious and in the process will get weaker and weaker and start to feel attacks more and more.
Use this example. Ask a friend to punch you in the arm once, then twice, then again and again. See how you would feel compared to the first punch and the 20th.
It's like your saying, sack everything that's happened till now, all those attacks that Luffy has landed on Dofla were for nothing. So Luffy should have used the Lion Bazooka from the start so Doflamingo will be wobbling.
No.
You're comparing Doflamingo at his peak when he took the Gamma knife to when Doflamingo took the Gamma knife and THEN took a whole gear 4 assault with series of fight scenes beforehand, and THEN took the Lion Bazooka.
You know what's odd and confusing? The timeline in this series, wish Oda would fix that. It feels like we've been years on this Island, yet in One Piece world it's been only a few days? Weird.
Ok, not looking forward to the next chapter to be honest. Why do I want to see one last couple of moments from few characters I'm not even intrested? If it was like water 7 arc and they were fun characters like Franky's family trying to stall time for them, than again I'd find this a lot more understandable if it was Pre time skip days Luffy having this much trouble and needing help. Still, these characters in this arc in my opinion are not that enjoyable besides maybe Bart's character? So, yah Oda thanks for another what feels like forever since that Luffy V.S Dof started, now we have to wait another week for it more
to continue and end the arc
Over all, I'd say I'm annoyed with the pacing and breaks Oda's been taking with this arc. While too many characters going no where and the Strawhats hardly making much of an impact in this arc. That doesn't
help. I mean, Luffy didn't really have a reason to get into this mess unlike the other arcs. FI he at least had a good one, this one was more of a Law arc with the Strawhats on the side. I hope the Big Mom arc every one gets treated equally, we know Kid will enter the picture at that point to help.
Looking forward to the after math of this arc over all.

I see what you say there. From that line I quoted rob from was to me stating Luffy should have had his Gomu Gomu taken. Well really he'd have to be dead.
Burgess seems to be getting Sanji treatmemt and will get his time to shine. If we consider Dragon Yonkou level, keeping in mind that Sabo is second to him.
Yes burgess is supposedly high up but Sabo had been brought up and trained by the legendary man himself for over a decade.
Would have loved to see Don M go all out versus an admirals or the like just to see just how badass he really is.
Don M, my favourite Villain so far of this serie. I just love these manipulative persons in series, makes for a good drama, setup and finally their own demise. Just like littlefinger in GoT.
So, any chance we'll get Burgess fighting Luffy at any point in this arc? I have some doubts that Sabo will ultimately defeat him, only stall him long enough for Luffy to get back on his feet. Or will Popeye vs Bluto have to wait for another time?
Ok, not looking forward to the next chapter to be honest. Why do I want to see one last couple of moments from few characters I'm not even interested?
Same feeling here. Between Sabo vs Burgess, Zoro vs birdcage, the stalling of 'mingo, and probably more useless emo shots of random citizens running for their lives, I dread it may even be two chapters, possibly three, before we get back to Luffy vs DD. I really want that to be over now. G4 was enjoyable, the stalling isn't. Let's get to the aftermath already and be done with that arc!

It hasn't even been an entire day.

thats becuase we as readers have been on this island for atleast 2 and a half years. Lol when this arc started I had just started college….. lol I just received my associates degree this past semester...... hahaha just to put into context how long this arc has been

"new yonkou" Just bc BB got a huge power boost with 2 DFs doesn't mean his whole crew is on WB's level now. Burgess and the rest of them got foderized by ace back in the day, who btw was a yonkou 2nd division commander. Sabo is clearly stronger than ace was. Wouldn't make sense for Burgess to be like yohohohohho bc my captain had his crew shoot WB a bunch of times after pussying out of a 1v1, I'm now super strong!
And i totally agree a panel where we see sabo running is just what this manga needed! I think we need to dressrosa citizen scenes too!
fw
Not sure why the marine will increase zoros bounty if he ever manages to slice the birdcage. I think zoro Franky and the 2 other samurais can only hope to slow down the cage buying some time.
If they slice the cage now every tension will be gone. Odd needs dressrosas despair to make luffys win really meaningfull/emotional.I don't know but every SH present hold off a family member and zoro literally cut a mountain to get pica. I found that impressive enough .
The only one doing near to nothing is fuji. Waiting for whatever to happen before taking care of the Family and his plan to abolish the shishibukais.
Marines will increase Zoro bounty for sure, he saved people from Pika's attack, that is already a big thing, he cut Pika's, and will hopefully do something for this cage so Luffy can focus entirely on the final phase of his fight, sometimes there is no need of despair to win but relieve and back up to feel comfortable.
Ever since kids, there was a balance between Sabo and Ace with Luffy as the weakling of the trio.
I expect Sabo to be on the same level Ace would be today, if he would live. I say that In the middle of luffy and admiral. And it looks like at best Luffy would only keep up with one admiral of 20 minutes how much Gear4 lasts.
Burgess could be on luffy's level, but still behind Sabo.
Both Burgess and Luffy have much to grow, likely Luffy will surpass Sabo close to the end. Sabo is just a few steps ahead of them.
"new yonkou" Just bc BB got a huge power boost with 2 DFs doesn't mean his whole crew is on WB's level now
Nobody is talking about Wbs level about Bbs crew here. Not sure where you got that idea. Also if you think a top pirate becomes a yonkou without his crew also becoming super strong thus being able to enforce their captains will then we must be reading 2 different mangas.
. Burgess and the rest of them got foderized by ace back in the day,
No! Never happened! Ace never one shotted burgess or van auger. Of course he was stronger but where did you get that they were fodder for him? In fact show me where they were beaten by ace.
who btw was a yonkou 2nd division commander. Sabo is clearly stronger than ace was.
By your logic sabo would have attomized burgess as he was fodder for ace back then…
Wouldn't make sense for Burgess to be like yohohohohho bc my captain had his crew shoot WB a bunch of times after pussying out of a 1v1, I'm now super strong!
You're under the delusion that burgess didn't get stronger since aces encounter and his commander status means nothing in terms of power.
You're even ignoring hints here and there that burgess is on another level than the likes of luffy or law. But i will admit that they're hard to get. One of the reason i want Oda to finally show burgess landing a meaningfull hit on sabo giving him a run for his money.
A yonkou is one of the strongest pirates out there but he has his crew of super strong pirates too otherwise he won't hold that position for long. Can't be everywhere at once right?
We all know Burgess is strong but not as strong like Shiryu. If this guy was on Dressrosa, Sabo would have a lot of trouble. If we compare BB crew and SH, Luffy vs BB, Zoro vs Shiryu and Sanji vs Burgess. It's a good comparaison chart because the story is around it.
Burgess seem to be always planning something one step ahead, have some of communication with bb. It's more like Sanji. Shiryu on the other hand is a lone wolf a like Zoro. So we could guess that Burgess is definetly strong, but in a way like Sanji (not a first tier). Sabo vs Burgess is sure to put Sabo on the top. Burgess will still be okay and getway with consolation price like smile.
Want to answer to not be rude, but I have been away for a while, so forgive me if I repeat some stuff :<
I think that's a good point. Like we saw with smiley. When a devil fruit user dies the essence of the fruit remains in the immediate area. Blackbeard with his gravity suck everything in, he can even contain people within himself along with items. So he could theoretically absorb that essence into himself as well.
Exactly. There would be the issue of time, but maybe they have created some sort of device that can trap the essence for a while.
if that was the case, why show up at the war at all..just stay around the island,at the same island the supernova stayed, and suck every "essence" of fruit you get in that radius until you get the gura gura
and if he needs to be close to do that..i think the fruit would have long left luffy's body when burgess returns to BB
It seemed like he wanted to make a statement at the time more than anything. To me at least, that technique was what cemented his position as one of the top dogs.
As for the second part, it's true that the essence might leave after a short while. But then again, it has been 3 years. Them creating a device of some sorts to do the job is not far fetched.
One could argue that if Luffy had noticed Doula wasn't defeated sooner, he would have won the fight by now.
Maybe so, but after recieving a powerful blow you often seen the victim linger until he/she is in danger again. Even if Luffy had attacked immidiately, which we aren't even sure he was able to, Doffy had plenty of time to think and act on it. But there are too many unknown factors to know for sure. Maybe Doffy needed the time to mend his wounds or maybe Luffy would've run out of steam regardless of Burgess interfering or not.
We all know Burgess is strong but not as strong like Shiryu.
I… Is it just me or why do you guys always let your fantasy get the best of you?
You don't know that. You can't say that. We have nothing to compare both other than making the assumption that both are incredibly strong as being commanders of a yonkou.
Burgess seem to be always planning something one step ahead, have some of communication with bb. It's more like Sanji.
If anything burgess isn't like sanji but has been shown to be a powerful brute instead rushing into fights. 1000000 Volts in the biceps but 0 in the brain.

From what we have seen Shiryu is the crew's strongest swordsman, which indicates that he will be Zoro's opponent in the future. So far, Zoro has always fought the second strongest opponent of almost any given arc. This claim can be backed up by patterns already established by the manga. Now there is no way to know how much of a difference there is between the two, but Shiryu being the stronger one is more than likely.
Fair enough i'm also overseeing the patterns there but we don't know if sabo would have a hard time against shiryu.

well shiryu got introduced as beeing as strong as mangellan iirc.
(who singlehandedly almost killed off bbs whole crew, if it wasnt for shiryu, which should count as an comparision )
so its a fair guess that he at least WAS above the rest of blackbeards original crew 2 years ago
and still putting him above burgess after the timeskip is not that far fetched i'd say.
but yeah i agree with that:

True. And this fight is weird, since we cannot gauge either's strenght based on it. Whoever wins will get his victory attributed to his position.
We can still estimate that Shiryu is stronger than Burgess from the story, No fantasy. I can't assume where is fujitora at this point, but hé seem a bit stronger than Sabo. Well this is a guess ;) coz he is admiral but surely not far.
And Burgess is not that dump! Yes he love to fight, he is supposed to Be a champion. Probably hyper active, but when he tried to surprise Ace with an attack that was no Luffy dont care hitting everything. He was trying to surprise him. He communicate with BB on his mission, waiting for Luffy to Be almost beaten with his fight before a sneak attack. He is no Einstein or Sanji but still not that dump. In a lot of way he will Be sanji rival in BB créé. Dont consider Shiryu messing up his missions…
From how things are going, it's hard for me to see Burgess as top tier among Blackbeard's 10 captains. He's the first one to get fleshed out after a time skip and, while he had some impressive feats, he hasn't been doing great all in all.
Strongest guys don't get to fight first.
But that doesn't mean Burgess can't get some devil fruit that will raise his fighting potential. In fact, it's very likely that will happen. Maybe even in this arc, even though I can't see him (Oda) actually killing anyone of the introduced df users.

He is the vice captain and they tend to be part of the top tier in a crew. BB himself could still need to master his DFs, and if each BB pirate eats a good DF, they have all the room to grow better.
I don't think any of the BBs are close to as good as they can be. Only BB, but I don't think he can do "awakening" with both fruits at this point.

well lao g seems pretty done for but unfortunately he has no df :ninja:

He's not a vice-captain, he's the captain of the first ship/fleet/whatever. I doubt Blackbeard gave them numbers based on their fighting power from 1 to 10, like Aizen. Maybe he's the first that joined him, that would make a lot of sense.
Wonder if Blackbeard even has a vice-captain. Maybe he has divisions like Whitebeard but has never put someone in front of everyone else. Or even if he has an official vice-captain, maybe he's not that much stronger than anyone else.
By all Shonen laws, Burgess isn't among stronger members of BB Pirates, at least not yet.
It's easy to compare the crews to get a good idea. BB is the strongest cause his str and the fruits he has
Luffy is the strongest using his fruits by his means and will power (lol).
Zoro and Shiryu are good rival, lone wolf, no DF just sword, attitude etc…
While Sanji is freakingly stupide about girl as much Burgess is of fighting (yea my through maybe not your) just to say that Burgess have enough to rival your good old Sanji
This fucking luffyt HES STILL FUCKING WEAK!! AAAARGH IM SO FRUSTRATED WITH HIM!!
Zoro vs Zombie Brook lasted 5 minutes.
Yes, Oda focused on that fight from start to finish though. I thought that was one of his best written fights from a suspense standpoint. The way zoro just fell from the battlefield appearing the loser with Ryumma standing at the top on fire looking like the victor. Oda rewound what had happened earlier and concentrated on the events that took place before the conclusion. Oda now is scatter brained here, he wants too much unecessary involvement from space wasters. Gatz ?the announcer? come on now. I do hope champion and sabo get the brunt of the panels, but doubtful.

WB was lapsing a lot. WB was acting the same until he was killed, unlike DD who suddenly started wheezing and panting, after the first G4 attack.
Gamma knife, counter shock, red hawk and even a bunch of G2 attacks didn't make DD wheeze and pant.
That logic about accumulating attacks don't work, if the attacks is not strong enough to make a difference.
DD actually clearly stated he wasn't regenerating or restoring his organs and applying only "first aid". Maybe a transplant after? Not sure. But that's what he had said.
Whatever he did, it didn't show that it was hindering him in his fight.

Gamma knife, counter shock and red hawk, all made DD cough up blood and double over. But none of those attacks made DD wheeze, pant and cough at the same time, while laying on the ground thinking. It wasn't good enough to be a game changer.
Doflamingo was feeling pretty damn good at that moment, then the gamma knife brought him down by a lot. Doflamingos endurance is insane, you'll just have to accept he can still kick Luffys ass after that assault.
He was doing good till Luffy went Gear 4.
Before that, he wasn't even shown to be the least bothered or exhausted by Luffy's attacks.
Flamingo was getting hit for the FIRST time by Luffy like never before straight after.
Getting hit by gamma knife is not the only reason why DD's getting hit by Luffy's attacks after wards. There was no more interruptions and distractions, and Luffy always learns to make adjustments while fighting.
You can't compare a willpower, meat regen fight seriously can you? Besides Luffy had PLENTY of rest before his rematch against Croco whereas Doflamingo had to get right back up from there, which again displays his feat.
So you're saying that it's possible to heal/fix Luffy's stab wound in the gut with meat, but not DD fixing his organs with his strings, the same strings that can make clones?
It's a fanstasy manga.
You clearly don't know how a fight works do you? Any fighter has a series of attacks back and forth and then goes for the big blow to ensure victory. Op fights are not like real world fights.
If a punch is weak, it won't matter if you throw a million punches, because it won't be enough to defeat your opponent. That's OP logic.
Doflamingo was shown wobbling for the first time, because of all those devastating G4 attacks, not because of those pre G4 attacks.
You're comparing Doflamingo at his peak when he took the Gamma knife to when Doflamingo took the Gamma knife and THEN took a whole gear 4 assault with series of fight scenes beforehand, and THEN took the Lion Bazooka.
They were both weakened. Even after the gamma knife, DD was still taking hits without any signs of fatigue, the attacks were not strong enough to make a difference.
All G4 attack were effective, not just his lion Bazooka.
Kong Gun sent DD crashing on the other side of the city, which made him cough, wheeze and pant. He was also a little confused why he got there. Perhaps he blacked out?
You know what's odd and confusing? The timeline in this series, wish Oda would fix that. It feels like we've been years on this Island, yet in One Piece world it's been only a few days? Weird.
One day hasn't even passed. It's still the same day that they arrived.
@DHL:

Shouldn't be a problem. Luffy had taken some heavy blows before in previous fights, but never really slowed down.
Typical Shonen Logic. Characters tend to become more amazing the more wounded they are. Adrenaline, maybe?
Law met DD at Green Bit around 3 Pm.
That's probably close, or just right after Elizabello fired his "King's Punch".
Then we See Elizabello use it again, after 1 hour charge time, on the Golem's falling pieces.
It's probably not even 5 pm at Dressrosa right now.
Meaning 4 hours hasn't passed yet, since the SH's got to Dressrosa. I might be wrong though.

Elizabello used a King Punch on the underground too, so it was past 4 PM during D-Block.
My guess is that it should be somewhere between 6 PM and 7 PM by now.

The one with Zoro was fully charged. I think Elizabello stated that he's glad he saved it, when he offered Zoro his help.

THAT FACE THOU? Is that what doflamingo supposed to look like in the series alone… Damn he looks scary as fuck! Sorry I know it's getting a little off topic here. But those eyes creeped the hell outta me. O.o
Okay, I ignored this forum because of final week preparations . But, I'm glad that Luffy needs help in buying him time. Although, I have a feeling that they won't be much help .
Really it's a feat of endurance, it's like your saying that Doflamingo getting frozen did more damage than the Gamma knife because Doflamingo was panting. Where's the logic in that?
Whatever he did, it didn't show that it was hindering him in his fight.
Can you show me a comparison of Doflamingo going all out when fresh to now?
Gamma knife, counter shock and red hawk, all made DD cough up blood and double over. But none of those attacks made DD wheeze, pant and cough at the same time, while laying on the ground thinking. It wasn't good enough to be a game changer.
Doflamingo showing himself panting to an enemies attacks would only make them believe they are actually doing something. Doflamingo could possibly be ignoring pain.
Like, why did Doflamingo dodge an Eagle bazooka the first time and then take it after? Really is just displaying Doflamingo's strength as a character.
He was doing good till Luffy went Gear 4.
Before that, he wasn't even shown to be the least bothered or exhausted by Luffy's attacks.
The power of Gear 4 was insane and really Doflamingo was not expecting the strength the first time. It has strength of gear third, less destructive but more concentrated by the looks of it. Those attacks of course would hurt…
Gear 4 was big for damage, those are hits no one can afford to take.
Getting hit by gamma knife is not the only reason why DD's getting hit by Luffy's attacks after wards. There was no more interruptions and distractions, and Luffy always learns to make adjustments while fighting.
In there small previous encounters there weren't any distractions and Luffy was simply outclassed. Doflamingo was flooring both Law and Luffy at the same time.
So you're saying that it's possible to heal/fix Luffy's stab wound in the gut with meat, but not DD fixing his organs with his strings, the same strings that can make clones?
It's a fanstasy manga.
What I'm saying is, is that you can't compare Luffy vs Crocodile with Luffy vs Doflamingo. Luffy used his never ending willpower to defeat crocodile. No handicap is going to stop that.
Those pre Gear 2 attacks did not have the strength to shake Doflamingo off his feat, but really.. they would hurt.
Compare Luffy's entire crew Pre TS. They could barely take down a Pacifista as a crew. Luffy, post time skip floored one with one punch.
Luffy's Bazooka is so much more powerful than his Jet pistol. Luffy has performed a Post TS Jet Bazooka with CoA. You call that not damaging?
So Luffy should just waltz into a Yonkou and spam Lion Bazooka?
Luffys gear 4 attacks had a much bigger punch to them as he was going all out so it really sped up the process of weakening Doflamingo.
Once again. Take this example.
Be punched lightly, not too soft or too hard on your arm, and see how it feels after 20. Then receive 20 powerful punches in the arm and see how much quicker it hurts and how much more quickly your arm loses it's ability to take any more punches.
That's what Gear 4 is compared to Gear 2.
They were both weakened. Even after the gamma knife, DD was still taking hits without any signs of fatigue, the attacks were not strong enough to make a difference.
It's a delusional point IMO. Once again it shows insane endurance. Luffy's endurance is not on Doflamingo's level or anyone at his level as of yet, that's the facts.
All G4 attack were effective, not just his lion Bazooka.
Kong Gun sent DD crashing on the other side of the city, which made him cough, wheeze and pant. He was also a little confused why he got there. Perhaps he blacked out?
They were no doubt powerful, refer the point in bold with punches.

Yea it was a very intriguing picture.
It sort of fits him. Although i can't wait to see what they'd actually look like.. if we see..

Shouldn't be a problem. Luffy had taken some heavy blows before in previous fights, but never really slowed down.
Typical Shonen Logic. Characters tend to become more amazing the more wounded they are. Adrenaline, maybe?
Yeah adrenaline helps actually.
I remember a couple years ago I had a fight with my brother, a real serious one. I accidentally smashed my wrist on the wall and didn't feel it, but kept going like nothing happened.
Once I was done, I couldn't move it

Knowing Oda he'll up the antique by showing Doflamingo's left eye as a demon eye after Luffy smashes his face hard. I and many of my closest friends would have a heart attack if possible? XD

On the second to last page of the chapter, as Doflamingo is walking towards the gladiators, Mangapanda translates the sound effects as "wobble wobble," while Mangastream translates them as "step step." Can anybody clarify which of these is more correct? It would help clarify how injured Doflamingo is supposed to be right now.
We've already seen his eye in the Gear 4th chapter when he gets Rhino Howitzered and his glasses get pushed up. I posted the link of the image before, on mobile right now or I would again.

Tell me again that this isn't his eyeball? The high quality scans will prove this for sure once they're out.
