When I first saw it, I knew it wasn't a 5-ton hammer, but I was really blow away by him getting up after getting hit with a 4 ton bat and then giving that speech. Pure awesomeness. Usopp > all.

uhhh…it's because the hammer is a fake and is basically two frying pans on each side. You need to continue to watch the anime, in about 1 minute Miss Merry Christmas would've caught him at his own lie.

Why didn't you already have respect for Usopp? Don't you remember his fight with the Merman? Out of all the pirates on Luffy's crew I think that I respect Usopp the most. He is the most 'human' out of them all.

If you read from the beginning, you should have known that the 5-ton hammer was fake. Ussop's fighting style is sort of a trickster type. Wait until you see the toy he made for Nami in action.

I had respect for him all the way from the point that decided to stand up to Kuro's pirates, and how he refused to give up even though he so injured. It's amazing how far he has come from that point, when you get to Water 7 and look back.

In a way, a "5-tonne" hammer made of frying pans and papier-mache is both a better fit for his character and a spectacularly better weapon than a real one.
It fits his liar tendencies, it shows his tendency to "fight smarter, not harder", and at the same time, it can actually be manipulated. A 5000 kg hammer would be unliftable by any non-DF human OR fishman (it would equal a 500kg hammer for them, still too heavy)

When I first read One Piece, I didn't care for him much until his battle with Chuu got my respect for him going but it was Usopp/Chopper vs. Mr.4/Miss Merry Christmas that lifted Usopp to one of my top 5 favorite characters. And if it keeps up, he might be #1.

Just looking at the 379 color. Usopp actually looks quite buff, with those rock hard abbadabbas XD & generally it looks like he has more muscle tone in his upper body. It could be just spread thing, but I dunno… he just looks like he's filled out more since he joined.

Well, it would make perfect sense that he'd develop more muscle tone from everything he's done, but then, the character don't really seem to develope in that way. Zoro hasn't become any more buff from the beginning, but he's become stronger. And then there's Luffy. XD
