So why aren't there any new films coming out?

Toei just announced is new Original/Standalone movie project! Probably the movie will come this year.

With this they already have 5 movies for this year. Hardly they will have more movies.

Remembered 1 thing.
The last 4 One Piece Specials are full blown, full length movies! They each take 130 minutes(2 hours and 10 minutes) and the last 2 came after Film Z. So is not like there has been no One Piece films.
Also of note is that Film Z only has 107 minutes(1 hour and 47 minutes).

Of note is that in 2012 Toei gave us 3 One Piece full length movies. 1 theater(Film Z) and 2 specials(Episode of Nami and Episode of Luffy). Also Episode of Luffy came in the same day as Film Z.

One piece movie 4 is superfun but I liked One piece 3d2y more then I have any other one piece movie, it felt more compelet and more one piece then any other one piece movie.

Movie 6 was the worst looking one piece movie, it was a decent op movie but nothing special but mamoru hosoda is an awful director who gets worse with each passing movie, I wouldn't want him near one piece or anything I love.

Now Komaki aya Needs to direct a one piece movie just imagine that drools

So far in my life as a One Piece fan. I've watch two dubbed movies in chronological order. One Piece: Strong World and One Piece: Film Z. Both were excellent films in my eyes. And are full of animation goodness, and lots of eye candy as well. :) They're that epic of films that I'd wish I've watch more One Piece films sooner or later?

I wouldn't say movie 6 was looking bad as a piece of art. There was obviously a lot of serious work behind it.
But I think an animation/art style, no matter how good, can't be used for every story.
I didn't like it in One Piece. Eventhough I loved it in Digimon.

I dunno. For a style like Oda's, I actually felt that the aesthetic of simple shading that focused more on motion than detail was very much suited to One Piece. Better than all that shiny nonsense in Movie 7 or Z. I guess that's why I prefer Naoki Tate's work as well.

If those were "films" in the traditional sense, Toei would have labeled them as such.
You can tell from the past theatrical movies that they are treated and marketed differently than a tv special.
Toei treats them like mega blockbusters. I think this is where the line between a "One Piece movie" and a "One Piece special-tv-movie-thing" pops up.

But where is the line drawn?
Toei could've easily made a big marketing campaign for these specials (toys, tie-ins, events-the works!) and give them a theatrical release, but they went with the straight-to-TV route.
Is it because it was the cheapest way to go?
Is it because they didn't want to have moviegoers confuse a retelling special as a "film"?
Is it because there were too many other properties that were getting movies around the same time?

We just don't know.

For me movie 6was fine,not my top favorite,i loved strong world film z and mugiwara chase was fine too,movie 5was ooc and 7was nice but the villains didn't worth it.
As for chopper island movie thing this one was bad the clock island was bad because i found stupid how they got kicked by weak villains.
I liked the specials except for the 3d2y ,i didn't liked the idea of hancock reduced to fight an old woman with her schemes when she's a warlord having the king haki.

It still bothers me. Did Luffy kill Baron in movie 6? I mean the flowers and Baron's goggles in the final scene heavily implies that Baron died but I just can't see Luffy killing any major villain even in non-canon movies.

It's been a while since I've seen the movie, but I felt that Baron was probably near death whenever Lily attached itself to him and helped sustain his life enough to slowly build up his crew again along w/ the resort. So when Luffy beat Baron, his simply released him from the borrowed time he was living on. So it's not so much killing as it was "freeing"…at least, that's how I saw it.

That would be the best news, everyone on the anime board would jump for joy! Would be very profitable for the international market too. Well, yeah, I think it will be a movie announcement, anything else doesn't strike me as big news, this news is something that has been saved for the arc's finale.

I don't think TV special and OVA get special announcements in the magazine. Probably big announcement would be Animated Movie, Live-Action Movie, Live-Action series, Fixed position in magazine, something to do with number of chapters or pages in following issues(limited number or for now on) or something of the genre.

A series of Cover stories OVA would maybe be a big announcement, but I really don't think such a thing would happen.

They certainly aren't low on budget, I'd bet. After Strong World they promised a new film every two years, which hasn't happened so far. The film came out in 2009, while Z came out in 2012 and since then not even a tidbit of news for the next film. Why? Meanwhile Naruto had four films released since the end of 2008 with the fifth coming out later this year.

They never promised anything. Oda just said he thinks it'd be best to release every two years in an interview.
